Hey, so this might not be the best place to put it but I was wondering if the community could work together to make a complete price checking guide for merchants and in-experienced players. This would help merchants to appropriately price their items on the AH whilst allowing in-experienced players to know the values of specific items, thus reducing the chances of scams and such. I am aware there already is one very popular thread like this: http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/79532 but seeing that it was posted in 2013 and last updated more than a year ago, I am unsure whether the prices of these items are still up to date and correct. What do you guys think? Is this a good idea? Is a new updated version needed or is the old version still not obsolete? Should we make the pricing guide as a forum thread or a wiki page? Also, if I am missing anything facts or already existing information out, feel free to tell me! Would love to hear some feedback, criticisms are welcome. Cheers :)
Merchant Price-Checking Guide/Thread
Sorry, for not mentioning the Bazaar. Yes, the Bazaar is the place for one to check prices for SOME items, etc. For example, most threads on the Bazaar show threads selling RARE EXPENSIVE accessories, and even then, not all accessories have had a price tag put on them. Plus, even if the price of a specific accessory is hiding in the 20+ pages, I'm pretty sure it would be a lot more convenient for one page displaying all prices to be put up rather than having to search through the forums for an answer. The main target audience for this guide would be new players and new merchants, using this guide to set the right prices and accepting the right prices, as we all know, not knowing the right prices can be costly in profit. What I meant is a long-term project that everyone contributes in to help determine set prices for every accessory/item in the game, as not everything is sold in the Bazaar, and some prices can be outdated. This would be more of a "compilation" of all the Bazaar's current prices as well as prices of items which are not mentioned in the Bazaar in the first place. So in a way, it is the Bazaar, without the trading and with the prices, compiled into one long thread, of up to date information that would be constantly be updated. Hope that answers your question. :)
I mean, putting pricetags on everything seems like it's going to be a more than difficult task when you take into consideration:
There are (probably) thousands of different items in SK, expanded further since the past years, and then (probably) even more variants to each one.
Prices can very, very easily come and go on a whim, and trying to constantly update these prices would probably be hell.
I mean, other than that, it sounds like a dandy idea, though it (might) dull the edge of actual merchants the more people get educated on "actual" prices, making it harder to sell off items to people at a rate that'll make them turn a profit... I mean, I think at least.
I quite like the project though, and I'm certain that it'll somehow manage to hold up either way, should it be executed again.
True, it will be a hard task. But it would be worth it for all the unfortunate souls who have been ripped off thousands of crowns. Regarding variants of items in SK, if the linked post could list most of them down, I'm sure we could too. Yes, prices come and go, which is how the linked thread lost its value. By keeping updated, I myself will be looking out for prices, and I will be depending on crowd participation (Which I hope will happen). On the case, that I'm alone on this project, I very much don't mind completing this myself, help is just very much appreciated. We just need more crowd participation. Then again, I won't be on this site 24/7 so a wiki thread would help a lot more since anyone can help add information (I trust the community enough, I hope I won't be wrong). If anyone had any other tips or concerns please voice them out! :)
I'm regularly asked for price checks, which I usually happily oblige but building and maintaining such a list is pretty much impossible. Prices vary, deprecate, etc with constant changes in supply and demand. As far as getting ripped off goes, players that are happy with their trades regardless of whether they hit the right price are generally none too concerned.
Not necessarily. Players would be angry if they found out they bought an item for 5k which was worth only 1k. This guide would not only help merchants, but players as well. This will help inexperienced merchants like me, selling items way of market value. As with the changing prices, I would be up to the challenge, but like I said, crowd participation is crucial.
Not sure why I'm ignorant, but most people seem to be acceptable of this new idea. Like what Pluto-The-Guided said some merchants may or may not be open, and you seem to be the merchant who isn't. I'm not going to judge you have your own opinions and reasons I have mine. I just think this will be easier and will help everyone. It just takes dedication, time and research.
Really, the only way this project seems to achieved is if we have quite a large quantity of players pitching in, and then so, constantly contributing...
The time, dedication and research that'll be needed for this would be positively tedious with every new release and re-release, alongside currently existing items.
I still think it might be able to hold up if executed, but with the kind of group we'd need for a project like this, I'm not sure if it'll really be executed at all, and I don't know if people will have the sheer dedication to change things on a near rapid and constant basis.
As for Hippo's statement, it really just depends on people's perspective. You may be pretty displeased that you overpaid, while others will be pretty content with the trade regardless of the sacrifice that they had to dish out.
That's the only problem. :\ There is no saying on how many active players there still are now, compared to 3 years ago. That's why I suggest we should make a wiki page, that way anyone can edit and update, instead of having to rely on the author to update. We can also use the linked thread's prices as a base guideline and update from there. What do you think?
Price check for CTR Med Sealed Sword
Again, price checks usually go in the Bazaar forum, so consider asking there instead of here.
I'm not sure exactly what you want, but it bothers me somewhat that you have not mentioned the entire Bazaar forum in your post. Because that is the customary place for all price checks. Even if your goals are different from the Bazaar forum's, you should at least describe how.
