This mission is too difficult.
grinchlin assault
Grinchlin Assault is a brutally difficult danger mission. It has already been nerfed once in the past, and honestly, outside of the final room's boss battle, it's pretty fair.
That final room is just one ounce over the line of acceptable, but with a good team you can easily overcome it. I've been running duo parties with a friend of mine and after warming up we've been getting through there with no sparks used and often ERs in tact whenever lag isn't an issue. :)
"This mission is too difficult."
That's like, just your opinion, man.
Keep in mind most forum members have been playing for 5 years or more. So daring to question the difficulty of anything is going to get responses like this.
If the context is that the mission is too difficult for the mission to represent the spirit of Winterfest or too difficult for the rewards suggested, then I would be inclined to agree.
Not to mention that the mission introduced various hazards and obstacles not present in any other areas in the game that are normally accessible. Considering the lag is increased by the intensive use of entities and particle effects throughout the mission, the ramped-up spike in difficulty gives very little room for error to unexperienced and veteran knights alike. Furthermore, a defeated Grinchlin revived as a Darkfang is by all means an oversight with unfair consequences.
Calling it too difficult is a very vague statement. But what is certain is that this level of difficulty is not even slightly representative to other challenges the game has prepared in general for knights via Arcade Gates and Ranked Missions. This is a wholely different case that should serve those ready for self-imposed challenges.
It's too difficult for both of those things, and the material drop rate is unacceptable. The one time I made it to the summit I got zero giftwraps. But I can't get the materials anywhere else in the game, so I have no choice but to play the mission. There is nothing vague about it, the mission is just too damn difficult.
And by the way, I've been playing since 2011.

With an ample grasp at game mechanics, one can clear the whole mission without a second thought, except the final battle, boy is that a doozey. (In my opinion, hardest battle in the game.) If you're having a lot of trouble with clearing the mission, you can always ask someone to help you along the way, especially if you're in dire need of one of those reskins.
1. You can get solstice rings from the only one box with ~2% drop chance. That box is situated in the middle of the last treasure room on the second floor.
2. You can get giftwrap only from the last treasure room on the first floor or the second floor.
1+2. If you want to make grand solstice ring, you have to make full run. If you want to craft reskinned items, you have to finish first floor few time, until you get 12 giftwraps. All other materials you can get from any treasure room, even the first one.
In case someone is unaware, the last fight can be done fairly easily (an at least lvl 95 maskeraith is highly recommended, tho).
After stepping one the button, rush to this spot and camp there. Occasionally go out side, in front of the wheels, so that any npc that would go after you will get pushed down. Or just shieldbump them away.
Be ready when the pod lowers its shield othervise you will get knocked back into the misery blocks (that's another reason why I occasionally go outside). When the shields are lowered I use my cloak, pop a barrier pickup (which doesn't cancel the cloak, I don't have to waste an attack and the gunpup doesn't notice me) to hit the ghost block, walk to the pod and use a grim repeater or blitz charge. Stand right next to the pod othervise the spinning orbs may hit you (just like in GitM). If everything goes well you should have survived w/o a scratch.
Ofc I mostly did this while soloing and it also worked out with a friend of mine who also did the same. However, in a full party where not everyone knows what/when to do or doesn't have a deadly cloaked mask, yeah good luck for them.

If schadenfreude was one of the ingredients for it, you'd be all set. Sadly, it isn't. :-P

We've all been in the same place you are now, and after a few years, experience, time, proper gear acquisition and team findings... We've found a way to complete the mission.
It is a very punishing mission, but it brings a challenge to the table that simply isn't offered anywhere else in the game, and I absolutely love it. Certain things could be toned down but that would take away the severe difficulty of the mission, making it just another "mission to farm" rather than "mission to complete".
"but that would take away the severe difficulty of the mission, making it just another 'mission to farm' rather than 'mission to complete'."
Y'know, there's always The Gauntlet miss-- Naw, who am I kidding? We all know that mission would only be remotely hard if there wasn't an arsenal station in-between every arena wave.
True one of the hardest ones out there, but as in other missions its only a matter of experience and practice.
Trust me, if you run it like 30-50 times, gonna be a piece of cake after that.
