Game crashing after launch without opening

So two days ago I logged on just fine and had a couple good vana runs along with making a flaming pulsar and working on heating for blazing. Today when I logged on to steam to open SK it opened in my dock for a few seconds then disappears meaning it crashed. My friend and I went through the terminal to launch it and it launched just fine, but not logging in with my steam account. After a little digging we found that there was an update today? Because there is nothing wrong with the base launch and I just can't log into SK through steam we think there is a problem with the connection between the two. I have steam overlay turned off in steam but as I can't get into the game through steam I cannot turn it off in game. Please fix this as soon as possible. I was planning to do a bunch of things today.

IGN: Ironu

I care so much because I have spent 132 hours on this game and have the crimson hammer DLC. I don't want to lose this account.

And yes, I tried all of the simple "try this first" solutions

just looked at the main page

just looked at the main page and saw the event going on. could the update of the no auto target in lockdown cause this? Grey heaven please fix this soon!

I'm having the same problem

I'm having the same problem but I didn't know it was a problem with an event. Please fix it so spiral knights works with steam again, I put a lot of time into SK and don't want to lose everything I worked for. I even went through the trouble of uninstalling steam, wish I knew it was an update and not steam itself would have saved so much time. Please fix the steam version of spiral knights!

Ironu
woah slow down

I never specifically said it was the event. Was just posing a possibility. The event is the most recent thing I know of and connected that with the update I found in the code.

I also uninstalled and reinstalled steam and that didn't work for me. I have uninstalled the game multiple times as well. I did download the non-steam version so I could contact my guild about my absence until this is fixed, so I know that it is not anything with my laptop its self(sadly using a mac so I wasn't completely shocked). And of course I tried turning off overlay and also turning it back off because that had been a problem in the past.

Extremely Disappointed

Same here, it starts up, screen flashes black twice and then CTD.
Tried steam version + version from the main website, nothing works.

Updated Java, verified cache, re-installed twice and updated steam.

Absolutely nothing works, and I have no hope in tech support or even customer support lifting a finger to help.

My tickets and customer support tickets have gone ignored for almost a whole month, even after sending follow-up inquiries.

...

it dosen't have anything to do with the event, that event ended a week ago.

Game is working fine for me, however there's a scheduled maintenance reboot coming in about 10 minutes. see if that fixes your problem.

Ironu
still a problem

I posted this before the event ended (@darklordskull)

I downloaded the mac version straight from the spiral knights website but because it was a steam account I can't play on my character that has my progress! Since I am not the only one with this problem it is nothing to do with my computer specifically, meaning this has to do with the steam launcher. I don't know if Grey Havens can fix this or if I need to go through steam but I am getting frustrated that my progress is practically useless right now.

The latest nVIDIA driver is

The latest nVIDIA driver is causing Java-based games (like Minecraft) to not work due to a bug, but don't worry since nVIDIA is aware of the issue and currently fixing it

EDIT: It's out!

Won't Help

Sorry to burst your bubble but this problem is for Macs and not PCs. nVIDIA can't help Macs because there is not download option for Macs, only Windows. Was a good suggestion though.

still no luck

I have noticed (as I keep trying to launch the game every day yet still crashing) that there is an option when launching from steam that tells me to choose "play spiral kights" and "play spiral knights with your own JVM". I got all excited that it might work now, but still no luck. Both options crash before fully launching. deleted and reinstalled java in order to see if it was my java that wasn't working but again no luck. Playing without steam still works just fine but none of my progress is there.

Finally fixed this problem

Thanks to Aayy-Lmao
the game was crashing while starting and I couldn't manage to open it for days untill I installed the driver hotfix from the link Aayy-Lmao provided.

Don't use latest Java JRE

As a temporary fix try downloading and installing an older jre version. Such as JRE 7: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre7-downloads-1...

Here's how to edit java_vm: http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/62691

Ironu
still a problem

Even after the most recent update, my game still refuses to open. I am running JRE 6 and have been since before this was a problem because I didn't want the game running on the wrong one (the latest as people tend to say thats not working). Sent and in Game Request but I haven't gotten a response and the update didn't work.

Other versions?

Have you tried running on other versions of java?

Here's what I would do:

1) Uninstall Spiral Knights
2) Delete Spiral Knights Folder
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Spiral Knights
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Spiral Knights
3) Uninstall jre_6 and any related sdk
4) Restart
5) Download jre_7 latest version and install (Try both 32 bit and 64 bit)
6) Reinstall Spiral Knights
7) Rename java_vm in SK folder to java_vm_original
8) Copy and paste jre_7 into Spiral Knights folder (first do 64 bit if it works; if not try 32 bit)
9) Rename jre_7 to java_vm
10) Start the SK client to check if it works. if it doesn't try the 32 bit version of jre_7

Java probably isn't the thing wrong

Java probably isn't the problem that I am having because I can run the normal client downloaded from the SK website its self. I use that to talk to my guild but all of my progress is on steam, it has to do with the steam launcher as java isn't crashing its self. I went into the terminal and found no errors in the java launch and couldn't find the source of the error.

Steam uses it's own java

The standalone browser client copies your computer's Java version to launch.. Note that when Steam downloads the spiral knights game it also downloads and uses its own jre not your computer's Java.

That's why try my suggestion above to replace the java_vm inside Steam SK folder.

mac version

I was getting a dev (Gyre) to help me with the problems and he said it was the version of the Mac, which wasn't working for 10.10.X and up. He said he will find a way to fix it.

Smittysonic
STEAM still wont launch this game

No I don't use NVidia I use AMD, done everything suggested, even disabling steam overlay, NOTHING WORKS! help?

Re: mac version

Well if thats the case I guess I will just have to sit tight and wait till I get a new computer. I was already planning to at the end of this school year but I guess I have more reason to buy a real gaming laptop instead of this apple crap.
