Hi.

In this thread I'll be going over my thoughts of Spiral Knights, and just how I feel about the game in general.
Please note: I don't know how big of an issue 'whiny players' are here, but I'd like to point out that this isn't a 'game is dead' thread. Instead, it's some information on how I feel about the game. I might also add that I'm in a fairly 'tired' state of mind when writing this, so the things I say might not make much sense logic or mood-wise.

Spiral Knights, to throw my big idea out there simply, is a game that has one hell of a concept that just isn't quite being delivered, and it makes me feel sad. Spiral Knights is a BRILLIANT idea, it's unique and new. But something's off about it involving depth. The game doesn't feel right.

Let's get into what I mean by "doesn't feel right" - We know that Spiral Knights does indeed have player-to-npc interaction and a storyline. But here's what makes it feel stale, again as a 'big idea thrown out plain and simple': It feels too scripted. The general setup of Spiral Knights is not designed for a scripted game (meaning it's like a movie, has one major outcome and the way to get to that outcome doesn't change). Spiral Knights would be better off as something bigger where you aren't as constrained to story so much as you are doing what was intended: exploring. Every time I play Spiral Knights, I feel a bit depressed because I can't just explore the depths of cradle as a sort of trip into "Wow, Cradle is an amazing piece of work. I could enjoy this all day." without the need for a mission. Why can't we just take some time to enjoy the depths of Cradle, even if we are going to run into a few monsters in getting to the next place to explore?

A bit of post-proofread info:
Arguably, the Arcade does this already. To add clarification, I'm saying this: Add more preset locations to SK. Make more places like Haven or Moorcroft Manor or Emberlight to mark as destinations. Maybe add more exploration in an individual depth rather than making each depth a new location on its own. Make it BIG, like Cradle should be. I want to explore cradle, not blow through as many depths in as short amount of time as possible.

Alright. That's all I really have to say. Again, I was in a fairly tired state-of-mind when writing this, so things might not make much sense. I'll come back later and fix any screw-ups. For now, there's my thoughts in their "raw format".

Thanks for reading.

To be honest, I've always

To be honest, I've always viewed Spiral Knights as something a lot more than just what it is atm, since it's a very original universe that is very much unexplored and has so much potential to be built off of it. I mean you could classifly it as "just another mmorpg" but it definately isn't that, just judging it off by its potential storyline to expand further into different branches and it not be a cookie-cutter "fantasy world".

My opinion on the subject

My thoughts were the same as Xan the Dragon some years before. I've always wondered if this game appealed to more people, i believed that more players would make the game good, but that's not it... In my opinion, the key to success of this game lies in the story. Before i explain, i know that there are alot of people that don't care much for the story line and some don't even know the lore of the game. But indeed the success lies on the story, because it hads more "flavour" to the game. Imagine if it appeared more missions after the events of "Dreams and Nightmares"? It would be another mission to you know where, probably to defeat "you know what" (im trying to avoid spoilers here :p).

Also there are alot of things that the developers can take and fill more of the story, like the Great Colony, home of the gremlins, ruled by King Tinkinzar; Or the "moon" orbiting Cradle, according to the wiki, the moon might be an artificial object because of Cradle's artificial nature, perhaps it was intentionally placed in the orbit of Cradle.

But your ideas Xan are very good tho, more destinations and places to explore would also make the game far more enjoyable, and by adding more destinations perhaps more mysteries would unveil of the game's lore.

Yes!Nysion agrees!

I agree on expanding the Cradle. Increase the depths into 100 if you have to. Just expand the Cradle more!!!
