Let's talk about what we the people think about getting new content behind prize boxes via random distribution.
Can we talk about new weapons in promo boxes?
Something tells me Draycos is going to argue otherwise regardless...
Without going into a scientific argument with a bunch of numbers, could I imply from your statement that they never cared about long term consequences?
Or even further, the same head honcho from Team Rocket* (who runs the in game casino) changed their company's name, but kept all the seedy marketing schemes?
And further further more, they are keeping Cronus hostage at blitz needle gun point forcing him to respond only to certain threads that would not go against the secret dev police regime who wants the game to stay the same forever?
AND FURTHEST MORE OF ALL (read this one Devs) whoever is management/devving for modern day Spiral Knights knows more about how to create new permanent content and put into prize boxes, because they forgot how to create recipes and can't do their job right?
In terms of new unique items, I'm pretty much against promo boxes containing them.
In terms of super neato cosmetic items (such as the newest promo's items), I say I'm all for them being rare and hard to get in prize boxes. I also hope that perhaps we'll see some of these items in slime lockboxes in the future (since they're themed on luck anyways).
I mean no harm with my statement, just that they've probably seen our arguments and decided against them. I'd like to see the prize box reskins as new weapons for us to go out and craft or so myself. It's fine that they aren't but it'd be nice if they were for more than just the p2pers and merchants.
I'm going to play the defense for the side I don't even agree with for a moment.
------------------------------
What if we compare these new reskin/totally new promo box weapons to promo event pokemon? Operationally they all do the same thing to kill stuff in game. Technically you don't need it, but it drives our target audience crazy to try and collect something we have power over. It's not a rare Pokemon if we actually put it in game; we have to have some hook to drive out money boxes.
In fact, we can we even say it's still possible to acquire in game* if we put (quantity:1) on featured auctions for bid only price, because that's a good thing* that creates a crown budget (not really if only person pays for it, which keeps the status quo)
It is in OOO/Grey Haven's best interest to not actually put a price tag on new content for the F2P base, but continue to target the P2P base we already have.
This is why we can keep 5* rads forever hard to get because there will be no end game if they have to farm forever, and let them play longer to buy boxes.
The most recent Casino update isn't really an update, but is perceived as us working on something; we just used pre-existing content that we had access to and spruced it up with more boxes and recolors. We don't even know how to add descriptions to the new achievements we pasted in. Since it's RNG, limited time event we can guarantee they will never have a full set, because the odds are statistically set so low on purpose.
There is one dev in charge who has been working here since OOO was converted to GH, but gets his say so since they are the only one with the power or knowledge to edit code. This game is their only life-line in a career that will not hire this dev for alternative work because this type of mmo gameplay is dying model of income source. The dev needs to keep his job, and that comes at the expense of the playerbase, and that's why I can't permanently give you access to new content, even if it means you authentically have work for it in game. We need the bucks right now to do what we've been doing for years.
This is also why the answer is a flat "no" to change to previous game content (no health revving, no mist, no old UI: that doesn't make money and is too player friendly).

Meanwhile, there's Overwatch over there.
It's not jumping to conclusions if it's a fact that we have an upward trend of more new items in boxes than actual permanent weapon content for the last 4 years.
As it stands we have:
Swords: 2 unique, 4 reskins
Guns: 2 unique, 1 reskin
Bombs: 1 unique, 3 reskins
Shields: 4 unique , 2 reskins
Battlesprites: 10 reskins
Furniture: Moorcroft and Almirian series
These numbers are growing, and that's a fact. What if I told there's 10 unique swords with their own ways to play, but you can't actually get it in game because you had to have been a P2P player in 2013 to have your chance* to get one?
Would players care more about supporting the game if they had a reasonable method of obtaining the above?
I'm not feeling the love or concern. The least we could get around here is a public poll about the perception of the game's direction.
Instead of arguing about nothing, why don't we get together with the various whales of SK and attempt to bribe ourselves some content out?
Lets start with what we want them to do. It has to be something reasonable that the devs are capable of, and it has to be something that everyone can get behind. I'm thinking that a sword/bomb update, akin to the gunner update, would be very reasonable.
I can agree to that. Power is where the money lies, so it's probably not just the devs fault if we have a community that only reinforces this behavior.
But we need to figure out's still dropping mad money on this game that's affecting the rest of the population.
These content updates are obviously targeting them since they are the ones who are more likely to open the most boxes to get items out of.
Do we need to ask around in game?
It's not really public shaming, but we'd still have to handle knowing active account names of most P2P players that are still out there that ought to be private.
What is the psychology behind trying to salvage your sense of enjoyment for this game?
It won't get you money, love, health, or security...what else is there?

I do not mean to make a thorough statement saying this, but, considering that Nick has left the team by the time of the conversion, the way you described it sounds like a rather selfish and withdrawn takeover of the part of that developer. Are you certain that the situation on SK's development is as you said exactly? Or is there something else about this matter that should be brought to light?
You've brought up the unique weapons / shields etc
I do beleive that you mean a varient of those being obtainable in-game? Like say how the cleaver was a sundaruska reskin, or the bitter end is a grey owlite shield reskin. Those are obtainable variants, but they still function like the same item they come from. You can settle for getting the in game free version and be satisfied or save up and buy the reskin. However with the outcome of those unique items IE teddy belt buckler, sweet dreams, and celestial shield those function differently from any other even if their impractical they still have their uses, and HAVE no in game variant (yes i know the TBB has same stats as gorgomega shield but it has more normal defense and less shadow.)
We haven't even gotten to the worse offender, the dreaded p2w gun (Overcharged mixmaster / orbitgun.) Destroying unaware players who don't know how this weapon works in lockdown, and almost always being used in solos of videos etc, a very sought after weapon. Too bad this is a new fuctioning weapon locked behind a lottery box paywall with no in game variation to obtain said gun, no lockdown recipes, no recipes at all, no vendor, no event, just a box to get this. Granted the mixmaster hasn't come back since, and the only hopes of getting one is the returning bi-annual Equinox box. Why cant we have a version of these two available in game that does a different effect like the Plague needle? This could be held to ransom about the game being p2w, to a lesser extent with UVS in lockdown but since that can be obtained via punch with crowns. There's not much of a argument to be had there, But the mixmaster is irrefutable evidence. It might be scummy to pick at 1 example but 1 example is all they need to label it p2w, along with the other uniques, especially when some newbie gets pummeled in lockdown by this unforgiving gun.
It could be justified to keep it behind a paywall because its OP, But with how many other things are considered OP, it shouldn't matter and should be available to the public in some other way, or variant. Acheron, BK set, Chaos set, alchemers, you name it, but anything can become op if you master it, so why inst the mixmaster craftable yet?
While I do own a orbitgun myself, I do believe they should be in the hands of more players. However, I also believe the gun should be nerfed or reworked before it's released to the masses. Here's an overview of how I would balance the weapon out along with getting it into the hands of more players.
Other than that, side-grades as promo weapons is a grey area. If I need to answer in black and white, I would say I dislike them. However, with sidegrades, you do have alternatives that act very similarly if not the same. For example, sweet dreams will be used very similarly to a cold iron carver. This doesn't make it any more "okay" to have it locked behind the paywall, but it's at least not a weapon many people would use anyways, leading to me not speaking out too much against it. Teddy bear buckler is another side grade that's really just there to min-max stats - it's a gorgomega for those who shield more against physical attacks, and want a tad more movement speed.
With sidegrades, the main appeal is their appearance. With completely unique items (celestial shield, orbitgun/mixmaster) it becomes much more apparent where the problems are.

All the relevant discussion on this from 2014. It's been years they're aren't going to change their policy.
That worries me somewhat to the future of this game and how new players see it. We're lucky its still up to this day.
A handful of new players usually just come for the tf2 hat, and leave.
I'd say to give it a rest. If they cared what we had to say they would have done something by now.
