What if there was a PVP mode like a MOBA? Strictly 4 v 4 two lane map, for the sake of keeping things as small as possible and lag free.
The core that needs destroyed to win could be the shielded dome thingy (like the one from ghosts in the machines, or operation crimson hammer)
I would say the model of the lane obstacles should be more like the ones in heroes of the storm, like mini bases with towers, a main building, a gate, walls, and not like in League of Legends with a single high damage tower. I feel it would fit better with this game. Of course, it wouldn't have to be EXACTLY 1 main building, two towers, a gate and walls.
Jungle camps could drop damage/speed/defense buffs, temporary vitapod, but not with crazy numbers like 12, maybe around 6-8. By temporary, i mean you would lose them on death.
You could get 1 health pill every time you revive, and that's all you get. 1 of the lane monsters could always be made to drop a heart that heals 3 lines.
I don't know if this game mode should have alternate kits, like the ones in lockdown, so i'm gonna go ahead and say NO! All regular knights with regular gears.
I don't want to hear: naah, this will never be, will never work, doesn't fit. Spare me the negativity =3= It's fun to imagine.
I would like to hear your opinions on a MOBA mode in spiral knights, how it should work, if you have any ideas to make it better, etc.
I feel this would be more at home in the suggestions subforum, even though you just want to get discussion on it all. Overall, it's an interesting idea, but it'd need to be heavily adapted to fit Spiral Knight's workings.
One design choice I applaud heavily in Spiral Knights is for everything that is introduced into the game to have an interesting twist to it. I believe in the early design days, it was one of Nick's choices to say "no orcs, no elves[, etc.]". That's why so many parts of the game are so organic and interesting - they're all entirely their own thing. Most games are just the same world slightly altered, yet Spiral Knights is entirely organic - you'll never run into wolvers or retrodes in other games
If a MOBA gamemode is implemented, I can imagine a new take being put into it. Something more like having a mecha knight AI that follows you, and only your mecha knight can hurt the enemy's "base". However, you can hurt the other team's mecha knights and their hosts. The gamemode may function in a different way, such as you can upgrade your mecha knight with different damage types (starts with normal), status effects, monster families (resists/weaknesses), speed, attacks, and abilities. Heck, unique resistances (such as reversing effectiveness of damage bonuses but losing overall defense, or having resist/weaknesses on certain weapon types - ie, guns are neutral, swords are weak, bombs are strong) would allow for interesting playstyles and metagaming.
Basically, I guess what I'm saying is that a MOBA in an SK setting would be neat and fun to play, but without anything new to the formula it just... Isn't all that fun. There's plenty of MOBA games out there, how would you make SK's a unique and fun experience, much like the rest of the game?
