I've basically quit Spiral Knights at this point. I'm only returning to the game at this point to test the waters, see if I can really find any entertainment in it anymore.
I'm far past the idea that Grey Havens actually cares about what we have to say, but as one more shot in the dark, I'll leave them with a list of thoughts on the state of Spiral Knights and how they can change it for the better.
I am beyond sick of Spiral Knights' old-fashioned model of constant grinding without any worthy payoff. It's why I usually stop playing in the first place.
Add rewards and incentive for playing, that make me motivated to play more. Those daily Prestige Missions? Nobody really cares about them right now. But, if you added some worthwhile rewards for doing them every day, maybe they would get more traffic. Many people have also suggested more randomized events in Arcade levels, which would help the Arcade live up to what it's advertised as, a random, ever-changing experience.
Run other events in parallel to the Prize Box promos, which actually encourage playing the game instead of passively paying money and opening boxes. That way, you can attract both the "landwhale" crowd and the average crowd that doesn't pay as much in one fell swoop, and the people who get angry over these constant promos will at least be calmed down.
The Forge is hated for a reason. CHANGE IT!
I won't waste my time proposing a new Forging model. Dozens have come before me, and it's Grey Havens' job to look at them and draw conclusions from what everyone is saying about it. It was broken the moment it was released, and has all but ruined the experience for endgamers.
Make paying real money actually speed up the grinding process. Seriously, how far can buying fifty Radiants or three Eternals really get you? What is the point of paying for these things in Energy if it only cuts out a tiny portion of time you'd spend grinding to buy them with Crowns? I haven't felt any reason to pay real money on SK besides supporting the game runners since 2013.
Above all, we want more content. Four years after Compounds came out, I can't possibly see why you developers couldn't add even one new level to the Arcade. Every few months, we should get a few medium-sized content updates, and a larger update a few times a year (boss levels, story missions.) That might be just substantial enough to bring back a few groups of retired players when they check for new updates.
Look at what has worked in the modern game market, and take inspiration from it. These successful, big-buck games are popular for a reason.
Your game is broken, and if you really care about it as much as you say, you will update it.
Agreed.
