I'm encountering the above stated error when I try to login. My version of SK is the steam version, I've tried restarting and verifying integrity of files but to no avail.
A server error caused authentication to fail
It's been a long while and we've gone back at attempting to connect her to the game's server. We have found out the following:
- It does not seem to be a router thing.
- She cannot connect to the server through her main computer.
- She CAN connect to the server using a friend's computer (same network, same house)
- The game/client seems to connect to a different IP address now: '2019/09/04 22:54:19:508 INFO K$a.b: Connecting [host=game.spiralknights.com/35.174.86.64, port=47624]'
- The game/client requests from an outdated location: '2019/09/05 00:23:30:900 INFO m.a: Verifying application: http://gamemedia.spiralknights.com/spiral/20141203124508/

I want to know if it is possible to force a game to use the correct address at either point. Hopefully someone can help us resolve this issue.
I am going to bump this thread because someone I know in Upstate NY is getting the same error upon launching the game through Steam. We have tried literally everything we could think of to fix the issue including but not limited to the following:
- Reinstalling SK
- Restarting the CPU
- Running program(s) in admin mode
- Port forwarding
- Disabling Firewall
- Tried logging in with non-steam account
- Tried logging in using the standalone client/*.exe
So, after all of that (and some other things I may have missed), I requested the "projectx" file and I found the important part. It seems that the connection to the spiral knights host is not even occurring. Specifically, the log portion read like this:

Relevant notes on NY CPU & Router:
- Windows 7
- Netgear AC1600
I hope that we can resolve this issue soon; we've run out of ideas and would like to play SK together again.
