I made a thread a couple days ago and then thought you know this is just me I shouldn't be dramatic yea it sucks but oh well, so I graveyarded it... but apparently two other relatively high-up-there players, you know the ones, fell for the same thing from the same exact person-
1.) Some guy, who I know better than to name gets you to add them on Discord
2.) Said player talks you into a deal, has some excuse, drags it out until you say yes...
3.) Said player deletes the account you just mailed
4.) Said player says his computer stopped working, gives excuses, refuses to give you anything back
Greetings,
I'm very sorry that this happened to you. Please take note that if you believe that you've been the victim of a scam, you need to file a complaint against that player. We do care, but we cannot proceed without something other than a verbal report. A complaint will send us the chat logs so we can properly evaluate the situation, but it is important to send them right away. However, we are not able to accept screenshots or external chat logs as evidence- we can only act upon based on the information within our own system.
While we do investigate and take action against those who scam, we cannot undo trades between your knight and others nor can we enforce verbal agreements. We have a trading system in place in order to protect players from scammers. Players who choose to trade outside that system do so at their own risk. Because we cannot verify the terms of a trade outside the trading window, we consider all trades final.
We certainly look into these issues and punish the player if we can confirm a scam, but we can't guarantee refunds for these types of trades where items are given away. Always be sure to trade safely to avoid such issues!
5.) Good game, you lose, good day sir.
So I talked to someone else. That someone else lost 120K CE worth of items/energy, compared to my 75K CE. Now, the scammer in question was banned before for offensive chat, and again, I can't say who it was, but they ban evaded and are back in action.
Anyone have any suggestions for action I can take?
Do they have a Steam ID? If they do, you could report it to SteamRep. With the addition of the Steam Community Market, SteamRep isn't as effective as it used to be, but it could at least make trading harder for them.
