Nothing, nothing can make me spend money on a game that frankly deserve to die at this point. I am boycotting SK until it can get its act together, proof to me that it is worthy to be saved.
As for promo that I never want to see, it would be some type of paywall weapon that just breaks the game, *cough*mixmaster*cough*
Since there is no elevator fee, separated loot and necessity of rarities. OOO/GH could make rarities booster that triples all rarities. I can tell about it for years and nothing will happen.
Newbies don't pay attention to prize boxes(yeah, you have to buy prize, but it's better to call it lottery box) and dead PVP, but the most of updates are about boxes and PVP. Rarities booster is great solution for that who like to play, but crashed into the alchemy wall.
I'm a barbie knight, in the Spiral Knights. Promo boxes, it's fantastic!
I spend money on promos a lot, as long as I like the content. I've even quit for several month-long stretches and come back just to buy promo stuff.
It also helps that I'm working full time and have a little disposable income.
Promos I won't donate to are usually just things I don't find super cute. I didn't dig the Lumberfell things very much, or this year's Easter/spring colors.
I have 2 points to make:
1. I'm guessing that most people that play this game, don't fork over moola for promo and prize boxes, just because they an item they want that has a 5% or less chance of appearing in it.
2. GH is not going to just give out free stuff just because you ask for it.
Also, what if GH made a prize box with a 100% chance for specific items. for example a box that has a 100% chance to contain a (insert costume set you want here). Or boxes that has just weapons from a specific event. like the a 100% chance to obtain a weapon from the gourmet prize box promo they did.
As a whale I'm fairly open to anything and just enjoy collecting. What I'm more interested in is the presentation-
when did you become a whale? I'm gone for a month and people are turning into whales?

For promos, it'd be cool to see a steampunk promo. I would be all over that. (Like a rotating gear helm, something with moving gears, nautilus window, vacuum tubes, etc etc).

Money is actually one of the only 'fake' currencies out there, in the end they are only valuable because we as a civilization agreed they do. When the world descends into anarchy, good luck convincing the local bandits that your worthless pieces of paper and plastic cards worth anything.
In contrary, gold, diamond and other shiny rare objects may be some of the only things on earth that can be called true currency since most people on earth could agree, with or without government, is worth something.
Gold and diamond are terrible examples. You can't eat gold, you can't make proper weapons or tools with gold... Gold is worth something because people trust it as a currency, just like how people trust the american dollar as a currency. They trust that the gold they get from selling their goods/services will be accepted by people they want to purchase goods/services from. As soon as that trust goes away, people won't trade their food/clothing/tools/weapons/housing for a piece of gold that they can't do anything with.

Maybe he meant that essentially everything is paid for with your own time If you farm crowns to get what you want, youre paying with your time. If you farm dollars with your time, then use those dollars to buy energy and trade that for crowns, youre still paying with your time, you just spent it at work instead of in game. Farming dollars is faster than farming crowns, so by being opposed to spending money, you are wasting more of your time than people who do spend money.

Way to miss the point, gold and diamond are good as a currency because they are limited in number and are generally immune to weathering and chemical corrosion, in another word, once you got it, it is hard for them to suddenly disappear. They are hard to make artificially thus they can retain their value without suffering inflation like paper money. In a world where our government and bank broke down and no law came to enforce any forms of value system, gold and diamonds would still be usable as currency thanks to those properties. Consider studying ancient history if you are not convinced.
Sure Gold is not the best for basic survival, but when you have a community due to the fact human are group/social animal. The invention of transnational place holder is necessary to run a proper civilization.

What about war? If your reasoning is that life is the only currency then you clearly have no idea what you are talking about, war is way more than spending human lives. Logistic, science, espionage, intelligence are all crucial to winning a war. Life is more of a constant than a currency to be spent. After all, it existed long before humanity and wasn't spent in any way by other animals who only act on their instincts. There are forces at play you couldn't even comprehend.
I want gaunlets. Maybe one for a Sword and one as a Shield. As long as they are 25% or higher, I'm willing to fork out money. Also some nice costumes (not just recolors), maybe.

Not sure what point y'all are trying to make. If people have more fun playing a game without spending money, how is that "wrong" when the entire point is to have fun? Like, dood, playing videogames is a waste of time, if people didn't have time to kill, then they wouldn't be playing videogames.

What you mention in your last post are indeed reasons why gold is good as currency. That doesn't change ANYTHING about what I said in my first post, though, as it has nothing do with it. Gold is just a currency. The only value it has is the trust that everyone has in it as a currency. If the world falls into anarchy, that doesn't change. What might change though is the trust that people have in gold (and any other currency). As soon as people start doubting if their gold can purchase essential items like food, they lose their trust in gold and gold loses its value.

And this is the reason why you should study some history, mankind do have periods of anarchy in its history, however, whenever mankind's population reaches a critical mass, which it inevitably will, and due to our nature as social animals. We will eventually develop something like law from the ruins of the previous empire. History is not a straight line, but loops that rhyme.
It is not a coincidence that civilizations from across the world, some of which have never had any interaction in the ancient times, regarded gold, silver and diamonds as precious for the reasons that I have mentioned and thus becoming currency. The moment when periods of absolute anarchy ends, these items would once again have value. A civilization doesn't have to be 'proper' to be able to recognize the necessity of a transactional placeholder.
Heck, before mankind discovered gold, we used to use sea shells as forms of primitive coins. And this is before any 'civilization' existed, in small community with less than a few hundred people. Try googling it, you would be surprised to see how much faith primitive men put in currencies when a good old fashion trade don't work and started to invent things like a market.
So no, anarchy won't automatically destroy people's trust in money and render gold useless (you can make jewelry with gold you know, even cavemen had hobbies). I am pretty sure some would even entertain their storage for the day when they are worth something again. If our ancestors had that little faith in currency, we wouldn't be talking about it today.

Here's a thought:
People like DJ and those who post negative reviews on steam and other forms of boycott are either playing the riskiest gamble or dont think their strategy through. Lets make a thought experiment:
1. I want this game to be better, but its not getting updates.
2. I will stop buying its products and post a negative review.
3. Now it has less money and less of a chance to lure new players in.
Think about it for a second. What is more likely to be step 4, the company to make a miracle, or for it to drop the game due to lack of resources?
If you want the game to live, if you want it to get attention, if you want people to think of this MMO as a gold mine instead of a dying granpa, you should actually buy MORE promo boxes. Then investors and devs will be surprised and want to support this game, because it is stable or growing instead of being boycotted to death.

You can't even form your own argument without using ideas from mine, which proves you have none. All you are doing is preaching the supremacy of rocks. You have your head stuck so far inside someone else's ideas in the form of a history book that you can't see the true forces that are changing the world at the moment, and the future. You are right. The trade-off is only accurate assuming you are not enjoying the process.
Main reason I'm not buying Promo boxes is because of the rare chance to get anything useful, and the fact that it's something like $6 a box, which is absolutely insane.

Thank you. That's entirely why I put money into them... much better to hear that than people telling me that I'm "cheating" for putting money into the game after playing F2P for years.

Any lower chance than that, I'm better off buying it from someone else who got it in a box and didn't want it.
