Only imagine, what happen if make that.
It is just very good.

This make, for example Lockdown finaly balanced.
Actualy, players have in the same time have Maximum Damage, Maximum Speed, and "Tanker Style" (+12 life)... This is complety OverPower.
If remove UV, players probably have in the max, if find one way, two max or one max and +12 life.
This takes a massive end-game element out of Spiral Knights. For PvP gamemodes, sure disabling UVs would be nice. But at the same time that simply makes it even harder for other players to compete well against good players since they can't work towards better performing weapons.
I would prefer lockdown to have random lobbies - some of which disable everything that can be unfair (UVs, trinkets, auto-target, weapon slots maybe), and another where it's exactly like how it is now. GvG matches would come with the benefit of choosing which gamemode you'd want to do.
Fangel, after read you text, I think one good idea we can choose in two LD modes, one without Unique Variant, and other with UV.
Without UV mode probably will be popular for new players, and with UV for super old players.
Since the lockdown community is so limited as it is, making it split up even more would be a bad idea. I would say with random lobbies, the gamemode is randomized (so either regular or without bonuses), thus the community isn't split up. I'd also probably add a "drop-in" option so you could join a match in progress when a player leaves, but you have to be a spectator in order to do so (if you leave you can't rejoin).
But yeah, when it comes down to a choice, Guild VS Guild lockdown would be a great place to allow players to choose what type they want. It means you can have proper fair lockdown experience.
(Also in my opinion, trinkets unbalance lockdown much more than unique variants ever did. Strikers change from squishy to tanks with health trinkets which simply isn't fair to anyone except other health trinketed strikers)
Force people for make any thing not give exactly many $$ in the most cases, one example is games "Open World" have unbeliever success.
I only speak before that option for remove UV, because I not see one better way... But now I see one.
There's "no AT" event every weekend why not add "no UV" to it too?
I love the UV's I have. I'll be honest, i'm not the best at this game, but thanks to sinking plenty of my hard earned crowns into UVs I've been able to get some really workable sets that make the game much easier for me. Things like ASI: High on a Fang of Vog, Piercing: Max and Normal:medium on a jelly set, I know they're not essential to the game but they help a LOT more then you'd think. I can't really speak for LD since I haven't been part of the scene in years (And honestly only did it for the recipies), but like you were all discussing above that could just be a weekend thing or something.
Not only would I now be short >10 million crowns but I'd probably be so angry that I would stop playing if there were a change this severe for no real reason. If it helps though, I try to imagine UV's as special trinkets. I mean, most of what UV's do are similar to what trinkets do, only you might wind up sinking a LOT of cash into it just to get it. However, what's worse, spending 500k to eventually get ASI:High on a Voltedge or something, or wasting 300CE each month on trinkets to afford equiping two ASI Trinkets? I know this kind of thinking won't work for a lot of people since I think the meta is still "get two penta heart pendants", but I'm just trying to sort of rationalize UVs here.
While I strongly agree with this, I think there should be an alternative way around it.
Currently, UVs are bonuses that provide stat boosts (e.g. performance boosts) at the cost of *gambling*, and if that doesn't sound awful, then I don't know what does. Gambling is an unhealthy habit, and to promote it for performance boosts isn't a good idea, IMO.
Lockdown should have an Unranked and Ranked queue, and UVs should be disabled in Ranked, and enabled in Unranked. Or, remove UVs -or- make a consistent way of acquiring them. Relying on the community to obtain obscure, UV'd equipment is clunky as heck, and relying on gambling is commiting financial suicide. House always wins.
Obtain UVs through special tokens that you can buy from grinding PvE (Clockworks). Every time you complete a level, you get a token. You can trade these tokens in for special UVs. Or, you can use tokens obtained from treasure boxes and trade them in for UVs. Keep UVs tradeable via weapons, maybe even create "UV tickets" which are applied onto weapons, and these tickets can be traded. No more gambling, time to actually *try* to get an added bonus, rather than rely on RNGesus. Anyway, that's my proposition, you're inclined to disagree with it if you like.
And make more variety of trinkets.
Anyone not go in Lockdown tier 1 and 2 because we not can customize so much how can did in Tier 3.
