My scenario, that happened earlier today:

  • I'm playing a pug game, not the leader.
  • We're in a graveyard pretty deep in.
  • Wife tells me we have to go make it to a thing.
  • The rest of the party sees the elevator is compound, wants to wait.
  • I want to go back to haven and get my heat, but cannot wait.
  • I go solo, step on the elevator. This let's me get up without inconveniencing the rest of the party.
  • But I lost all my heat going solo.

Can someone explain the problem being solved by dropping all of my heat?

Because players have abused the "go solo" option in the past.
The frequency of occurrence for your situation is substantially lower than the abuse that could be conducted.

In the past, sharing health could be used to transfer heat between players. If you could go solo and keep heat, one could indefinitely heat items by simply looping the revival heat source. [Technically not indefinitely, but you probably get the picture.]

But heat sharing hasn't been possible for four years. I'm unable to a fathom an exploit that would be possible if you could go solo while keeping heat.

Besides, team members faffing about excessively is not that rare of an occurrence in pick-up groups. Why should I be the one punished for it?

I feel that it was a legacy decision that is no longer applicable.
Don't like the current legacy situation? Make the decision to be the party leader instead of joining random groups. That way you can kick players that loaf around or ask the players that want to wait... to wait in a different party.

If you want to suggest how to fix this, you should do so in the suggestion subforum.

agree

If there's no possibility of looping or other abuse, then I agree that losing heat doesn't make sense anymore. I would rate this issue as "low priority, but if the developers have nothing better to do, then should be easy to fix".

I think it's probably because you're loading a new area and heat is attributed to the area, and they like didn't think about it or something. But who knows right?
