Where can I find the sound files for this game? Am I going to have to use a third-party file viewer? Does anyone have any clue?

I don't know, but we've had several threads like this over the years. So I searched Google for "where sound files site:forums.spiralknights.com" (without the quotation marks). The third link was a thread called "Where be the SK sound effects?". Post #1 in that thread suggested that the sound files are in

steam/steamapps/common/spiralknights/rsrc/sound/

and directories near there. But that's for Steam, and I don't play with Steam, so I dug around briefly myself. I play on a Mac using the stand-alone client, so I right-clicked on Spiral Knights.app and chose "Show Package Contents". Then, in

Contents/Resources/Java/rsrc/sound/

I found the sound files. So, in short, you may be able to follow a similar path on your system.

Always saw Bopp as more of a wandows player but well now that I think about it the traits for being a mac user are all there-

-Sleek, simplified design

-Uses futuristic language featuring reduced information about self

-Lack of stated opinion, completely unbiased

-Steam is "too gritty" for bopp; prefers no distractions while using computer

-Prefers natural motions and harmoney-

-Drives electric vehicles

Also on topic- most of the sound effects etc. will require you to be able to read them since they're not just like, MP3s ready for your pleasure- google their file name and find a suitable media player for them if you want to open them.

As others have said, you'll need to navigate to your install folder. This can vary (for some reason), so if you play on Steam the method will be rather straightforward.

If you play on the standalone client on a Windows environment, you may find the game hiding in your AppData folder. You can access this by typing "%appdata%" into your windows search bar, or show hidden items/folders in your Windows Explorer. The way I'd get to the sound via my standalone folder would be as follows:
C:\Users\Fangel\AppData\Roaming\Spiral Knights\rsrc\sound

Sometimes the game will hide in your programs folder, and other times it may just seem non-existent (had this happen with a friend of mine - all Spiral Knights folders were empty yet the game was running fine) and in that case I wish you the best of luck.

From there, most if not all of the sound files are going to be in .ogg format. You can view these in media players such as VLC, iTunes, or if you're planning on editing them Audacity can both play and tinker with things without causing issues in the base game - useful for if you want to play around with certain noises or make something!

As a word of note, the "tink" noise when you shield a hit or hit an enemy when they're invulnerable is the "pot_smash" noise sped up 300%. If you can't find a sound there's a large likelihood it's another sound entirely but sped up, slowed down, or pitch shifted via code rather than being a saved noise.
