Go Mobile?

Have you considered creating a mobile version of this game? While I really enjoyed this game when younger, it was phased out for me by other desktop computer games. I could see this game doing really well on mobile devices where it wouldn't have as much competition. Mobile devices now have the processing power to support games like this, and the input system could be adapted to allow nearly the same level of control, but with touch controls.

If this is something you have considered or are interested in, I would like to offer my services as an experienced game designer free of charge to help make this idea a reality. Spiral knights was an extremely entertaining part of my youth, and I would like to see it live on to future generations of gamers.

Thanks!

hmm

FYI you should probably graveyard the duplicate post of this, just edit it and move it to the graveyard (don't leave a shadow copy).

Anyway, a mobile port would be cool and there's definitely a good control scheme that would fit, but the problem is that if I remember correctly SK runs on Java, and for mobile it'd probably have to be built from the ground up, and I'm not sure if GH is up for that right now.

It's possible

Depending on the game engine used, converting Java to whatever is necessary could be a fairly easy process. Android apps already support Java, and converting Java to a C based language such as C++ or Swift 3 for iOS is a fairly simple task, though it can be time consuming.

I'd not bother it.

Did anyone forgot about OOO's attempt at having a mobile game that was to be set in SK's universe? Rise of Knights was one, and it ended up being canned, 'cause SEGA laid off the rest of OOO's staff. A mild, sad thing to hear, but they had their business decisions.

I'd not get your hopes up on having a SK mobile port, 'cause it's highly unlikely. GH have stated they're doing everything in their power to keep SK alive. The team's still small, but one day, they may ask for more people to help them.

On an unrelated note, did anyone get a chance to try Clip Studio Paint EX? The program's digital cel animation features really speaks what many who have been used to, and still used to, watching TV shows & movies that had traditional hand-drawn frame-by-frame animation, before, & throughout Flash Animation's long-standing hold in the TV & movie business, have been wishing for. No papers needed!

That program's workflow has absolutely no tweening, rigging, and rotating tools for animation(which really takes away the true natural feeling in animation, to be honest. got keen eyes to figure it out.), just good, regular, hand-drawn animations(like from earlier Disney's movies, E.G.), in digital form. All they need is a good graphics tablet, a strong computer, & a non-subscribed compositing program(which we need more, BTW.), & they're good to go!

Plus, the program's price is far more affordable than Flash's subscription model(along with others from Adobe), & the ongoing updates are all free, because, why settle for Flash's subscription price when any animator could just buy Clip Studio Paint EX & use it towards TV shows, movies(maybe not yet), shorts, & even games? It's selling quite more than Flash at a great pace, from what I've read.

Why, these industries across different regions need doses of Clip Studio Paint EX's brilliance & potential, and, little by little, it could very well breathe life to traditional animation once more, and maintain dominance through the numerous years to come.

Anyone thinking of giving it a go, try it, & you could use to make short animations, even if it's about SK. There's no limits to what you could do when using it. It's worth it.

Again, back to related matters, don't bother going mobile for SK, 'cause it's just not feasible in any form. GH will likely not go for it. Better for them to stick to what they already know, 'cause if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Why do you suddenly sound like an ad?

Sorry, Ze-Epik.

I'm very sorry if I sounded like an ad in my post. I was amazed by Clip Studio Paint's animation features by looking at them, I couldn't help myself. I'm not saying for them to have it now, just someday, if they're interested.

Once again, I'm sorry. I just had to get that out of my system.

You are experiencing a PICNIC ERROR!

This is what went on in my head:

"Now, a word from one of our partners..." Stuff about Clip Studio Paint EX "...now, back to the post."

Anyway, Spiral Knights is not a very efficient game, unfortunately. If you look around, I'm sure you can find posts about getting the game to run on mobile. However, everything I've seen runs too slowly to be useful for anything.

Now, I could see them making a companion app, or maybe a small game off to the side, but making a port of the full game would be inherently impractical. Even if a mobile device could handle such an intensive game and could function on spotty 3G or 4G internet receptions, there are way too many controls to map to a touchscreen. (Though it sounds like you seem to know of some way to work around this...) Even if you could somehow get past all those technical difficulties, Spiral Knights doesn't feel like a game one could play on a bus...the play sessions tend to be too long, even if playing shorter missions.

Sorry, but I honestly don't think Spiral Knights is mobile material.

I understand how you feel though...I also grew up with Spiral Knights, and I loved the game. I don't play much anymore, but I wish that the game would be more lively.
