What qualities determine if a player is good or not, in your personal opinion?
Personal Criteria For Judging Skill Level
Their speed and precision at the highest level (high tier player). (How fast they finish their fights and with the least amount of hits missed).
For me, if they can’t finish a low tier battle (Fighting someone considerably less performing than you) in 6 seconds or less, or a high tier battle (Fighting someone at, relatively near, or above your level of ability) in 15 seconds or less (21 seconds for staged 1v1), and with 4 sword swings missed or less, then they’re not worthy of the high tier title.
A master tier player should be able to do all the above in half the allotted times unless pure gunner.
Other forms of consideration are how well they can perform these criteria: http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/118487
The higher the mastery of a technique listed on there, the higher my regards. Could be as simple as stunlock, single switching, movement. Could be their mastery at advanced//expert level categoried techniques. Could be the amount of techniques you can perform above average as well.
if you can beat jempire's A team 1v6 then you are ok, if you can land a hit on me then you're pretty good
This is how I notice(d) a veteran player.
-Not using AT in both pvp and pve, especially not trying to find an excuse for using such mechanic.
-Not spamming. There's many ways to spam but the biggest problem is the "Pulsar". Oh no, I named it. Everyone now gonna complain about guns and swords in general or even bombs (yeah someone actually get mads at bombs, so adorable~)
So yeah, not using or Atleast NOT abusing them. Only for people with common sense.
-Not trash talking because jealous or just immature.
-Not acting superior to others
-Understanding that game suffers from lag, broken hitboxes and way many others serious issues. The lag part is mostly for the people with actual good and stable ping.
I always thought and said this thing: If lockdown was just a pvp game by it's own and generally being competitive by many sides, would be such a good game. Where real skills always wins and you could actually tell who is good and who is not. Yes I'm dreaming about esports right now. In the current status this is so far away from that.
Personal criteria for judging skills level? All the things above + just seeing how the player plays. Movements, being unpredictable, doing smart tricks and fakes, playing with enemy's mind, predicting, basically outsmarting the enemy and being an absolute Beast. (Even if you lag and can't kick everyones a.s.s don't worry, we can still notice your true potential. Yes I gotta mention lag, sorry if I keep mentioning this goddamn thing but it's one of the biggest issues and you all know this).
Happy new year and don't eat too much.
Like I once read it's a point and click game. People that can point and click faster + have a good movement and position in the best spot all the time is better.
In the other hand, people that can't point suck. Not including the clicking part because even bonobos are capable of doing so. I have to note some people isn't capable of single switching and need a macro though, but nobody can really help them with such issues, I think it's something you are born with.
Status weapons are a thing too, they are completely luck dependant, but hey, if you can afford a Bkset I'm pretty sure you can also afford a shock low UV in a Shock resistant armor. Okay you wouldn't be able to show egirls 30k dmg screenshots without dmg bonus, but you would at least prove them you aren't brainless.
Being skilled only means you don't really need to abuse broken things to win, not that you can't use them. I've seen skilled people using auto target, pulsar spamming, gunning with status alchemers only, arcana spamming...
True is that if they use such things all the time and they suddenly need to not use them (1v1s with restrictions) they get literally demolished by the people that hasn't been playing like that. But those are completely optional so kittens are all comfortable with their fake aiming and shit.
Point and click? Wrong game buddy. League of legends is that way —>
Over here we don’t point at anything but our enemies’ abusive mechanics.
Assuming no AT, the closer their hit ratio is to 1, the better they are.
Hit ratio is (Total attacks that make contact/Total attacks).
Yah, I either see people with lots of speed but shitty hit ratio or I see good hit ratio but way too slow.
A lot more speed players than hit ratio players, but in the end both of them do their piece pretty well. To me, either player is at an average level if they're not at least decent level with both speed and hit ratio. Sadly, a big reason for the lack of either side are game issues such as lag/ping/latency, so the only way to see the good results of both is if the player is at a pro level.
Personal tier :
Noob (F Tier) -> Below Average (D Tier) -> Average (C Tier) -> Above Average (B Tier) -> Pro (A Tier) -> Master (S Tier) -> God (S+ Tier)
Skilled players:
1. Do not rely on brute force and speed to take down opponents. This includes stuff like spamming combos (AT or otherwise), flinch locking with flourish, bullet spamming for no good reason, the best UVs and damage bonuses, etc. They may be very capable of doing all of these things but choose not to unless the situation is dire.
2. Know when to retreat and when to fight. They don't treat Lockdown as a damage contest. They play it like a war game. There's a time for aggression, time for caution, and time for stalling.
3. Play each class differently according to their strengths and weaknesses. Guardians support and defend, Strikers push and distract, Recon surprise and disrupt.
4. Do not engage in Richard measuring contests. Lockdown is a team sport. People who want to compare themselves to others in a 1v1 cage fight can do so in tournaments.
5. Appreciate the value of mercy and making the game fun for everyone. When on an overpowered team, they do not camp and damage farm outside enemy base. They purposely allow for intelligent opponents to escape and potentially make a come back, while still challenging those opponents when they actually threaten to take a point.
True skill is the ability to play Lockdown well and make it entertaining for people who play it with you. If skill is purely domination over other players, then skilled players are no better than sufficiently trained AI.
Tbh I wouldn't mind some hardcore AI so it wouldn't feel like we're inside a preschool classroom
Someone please develop a competitive game based on lockdown, and i'd play it day 'n' night. Or just split it in 2 modes, 1 casual with status and shit and the other comp. I'll donate 1m euros, just make it please.
If a player uses heavy swords, pulsars and haze bombs then they're not good. These weapons are just very easy to use and require no skill.
