lets be honest, the game devs need to make money somehow and that was why they added fire crystals when the elevators became free. but all it did was alienate players. i think a better way to add revenue, is by playing advertisements between levels during loading. one 30 second ad would be best and, if the level is still loading, then show the load screen after. it really is all about the money. the only thing is, not do to cross-promotion where you get some kind of advantage for buying 'product x'. thats my two cents on it at least. im sure some would view this as a bad idea but it gets rid of being blocked from leveling your gear like you were originally able to. thanks for reading.

yeah, i know its a bad idea, but the entire reason for level gating was to promote people buying something to keep the servers running. there is nothing wrong with them wanting money. but i feel that it currently screws people over. the 5* crystal only drops in special circumstances and we already know it isnt supposed to work that way.
Advertising kind of sucks and would scare players away. I'd rather the source of revenue be moved entirely to prize boxes than anything else.
As for gated progress, the only gate that really needs fixing is radiant fire crystals. Everything else isn't bad at all... I'm in favor of making it even easier to get orbs to craft with, but I'd like to see the additional orbs be given over time as a daily bonus or something..... like if the prestige missions rewarded them.
I can see where this is going, I have seen where it has gone with other things. Spiral Knights has gotten through a rough transition in order to be led by an independant company, it does not deserve this kind of sell-out phase.
What I do want to understand, however, is how you ended up assuming the idea that it would undo the level gating.
