Was chatting with a friend today when the topic of Bechamel's costume came up. Apparently he's got like a Cherub helm instead of a Round, Tailed or Crescent one, and I honestly had no idea.
Also, "bechamel" is a type of sauce apparently
Was chatting with a friend today when the topic of Bechamel's costume came up. Apparently he's got like a Cherub helm instead of a Round, Tailed or Crescent one, and I honestly had no idea.
Also, "bechamel" is a type of sauce apparently
-Kora is female
-Hahn apparently has angry-style eyes (though to be fair you wouldn't know this without an editor)
-Lumbers deal Elemental instead of Normal damage
-"Scuttlebot" is a play on "scuttlebutt"
-Ice type Scuttlebots are called "brumabots"
-Quillion's mask has a sword on it
I mean it kind of make sense. I've spoken with Jes a few times (the player who owns the name Biscotti - she's Ian's wife, an amazing chef, and a neerrrd ❤) and she's clarified to me that apparently the old Three Rings staff were told to have food names. Since Bechamel is themed off of Ian (Cherub for those who are unaware), that's why he's both a... well, a "he", and also why he's an accessorizer (artist) and has a modified Cherub crown.
But alas, here are a few things that it took me forever to realize:
- Timed explosive blocks have an animation on them and when the arrows line up it explodes
- Demo helms and sallet helms use the same base helmet
- Freeze devilites are called "Layoafer" because it's a pun on loafing around on a snow day, and layovers that were caused by said snow
- Chromalisks are weak to freeze as a status due to being coldblooded
Lastly...
- Cradle is called "Cradle" due to the fact that at its core lies the "Sleeper", who speaks to us through "Dreams". As such, the fact that the final rank 10-2 mission is called "Dreams and Nightmares" is directly referring to the Sleeper's constant fight against the Swarm, which may or made not have been created by the Sleeper itself - "Nightmare" in contrast to the Sleeper's "Dreams". It's why the two colors we associate with safety are the white scenery and the green grass while we associate danger with black and magenta (which, on a colorwheel, is opposite of a warm lime green of the grass in sanctuary).
Also the fact that the core is literally a giant metal anatomical heart. That's a cool one.
Trade chat.
You don't have to worry about talking distance when you're in the Clockworks.
You have to unequip the thing you want to upgrade (for example from 3* to 4*). I started crafting the same equipment I had because the game didn't let me upgrade things I was using. I think it didn't tell me I have to unequip them first, or maybe did, but I didn't understand back then. My theory was that you can upgrade only unbound equipment, but there was something weird about it and eventually I found this out.
Opening energy gates is more efficient than I thought. It should be worth to even open those 4 treasure box gates when you're in a party of 4 and deep enough.
Quicksilvers have lower health than other slimes.
It is easier to hit enemy with hammer's dash when you're aiming at the side of the enemy, rather than its centre.
You can detonate howlitzer heads with swords.
Scuttlebots are construct chromalisks.
Retrodes are construct zombies.
Zombies are zombies, not skeletons.
Quicksilvers damage enemies when they ram into them while shocked.
Fifth thing.
wow, I never knew of these things, please continue.
Also, adding some stranger info:
-all stranger vendors except Basil wear masks with the image of what they sell.
-Weapons merchant have swords on there masks.
-defensive merchants have shields on their masks.
-the general good merchant hav a vial on his mask.
-the energy merchant has a energy symbol on his mask.
-The Quillion is the crossguard of the sword and the Ricasso is the unsharpened bit of the blade after the Quillion.
-Vatel may be a play on vial because of his mask.
-Greaves are armor parts used to protect the shin and Kragen may be some german word for some sort of neck protection.
-Bulky sells tokens by bulk I guess, and maskwell sells masks. (kinda obvious)
-And finally, the removed stranger Boost, who had an energy mask, sold boosters. (also pretty obvious)
- bonus fack: Kozma replaced boost
thanks for listening to my rambling, bye.
You bring up the /2 and /trade chats, but something that took me forever to learn was that you can actually leave zone chat the same way you leave trade chat.
Just type /leave 1 or /join 1 to leave/join zone chat.
I'm pretty sure that half my hours in this game were because I didn't realize you didn't have to go into the game to access the forums.
Or it might have been because I didn't want to have to check my email every time I try to log into here.
Wisps actually have happy faces on them, and when they turn off, it becomes a sad face O_o

- In the arcade, where some levels background is colorful (Jigsaw valley, Starlit cradle, treasure vault etc.), we player are actually inside a capsule in the clockworks, where we normally saw spinning during normal arcade level (deconstruction zone, clockwork tunnels, blast furnace).
- The logo on the elevator tells you what level you are going to face next, the background color represent the status and the icon represent the monsters.
- Sometimes we survive at 1% health, apparently it's a reference to Sega's Sonic
- Status table shows that Divine Avenger deals the same Damage as Archeron
- Status table shows that Grans Faust have the same stats as Archeron(other than the curse effect)
- Vanaduke Deals Normal/Elemental Damage, While being weak to Piercing Damage, So it's completely different monster type from the six type of monsters
- there is a boss logo on the floor on the place we fight Vanaduke
- the /dance command doesn't make the knight dance (WHY!?)
- knight jump a little during dashing
- spiral knight features 3D graphics, yet its gameplay is restricted to a 2D plane.
these are the stuff that took me a while to notice
The "dance" animation in the files is a notoriously horrific one, left over from when armatures were changed to what they are now. Lot of contortion and folding-in of the model.
The boss room at the end of Built To Destroy isn't meant to be a boss arena. It's a hangar area where Roarmulus copies are created, but because there was no warning of the Spiral Order's attack, the current Twins were forced to fire at eachother from the positions they were assembled in
Herex's Crimson Order logo on his sleeve has a black mark on it, symbolizing his treasonous nature
The Warmaster Rocket Hammer emulates a Gremlin Thwacker's attack
The area of IMF's Warfare Workshop level, just past the party button with the gates beside it, was originally a full platform, but it got broken.
You can see throughout the factory how the twins are assembled. You can find both individual pieces and half-finished versions of them.
Also the background resembles the one that was used on the former login screen.
Might as well add to this again...
- Mini-jellies are 2D sprites
- At the start of the Roarmulus fight, the lights turn on, the screen turns white, there is a huge lag spike, and the fight begins. During the lag spike, players are actually teleported to a different platform. You can still see this original platform if you bring up the map.
- Gorgo's use the old Alpha Wolver attack, before they were nerfed
"The "dance" animation in the files is a notoriously horrific one, left over from when armatures were changed to what they are now. Lot of contortion and folding-in of the model."
Sounds interesting. How did you get this information? Don't mean to sound intrusive, I just enjoy collecting info on this game.
Back on topic: While I did notice it doesn't happen in-game, whenever I saw the ingame tip mentioning fire damage spreading (like shock), I always thought about how it never actually seemed to happen. I always assumed it was an old, long-since patched out mechanic.
well ya see you gotta put your right foot in, and then...
SpiralSpy is a really good way to see old or unused stuff.
Oh yeah, and i've never noticed fire spreading to allies OR enemies, while shock clearly does to players. Maybe they patched it?
Anyway, couple more:
Tortodrones' legs are 2D billboard sprites
Almirian Crusaders' attacks use the Flourish charge
One of the vents in the Munitions Factory, in the arena on the left, is shifted over half a tile from where it should be
Tortodrones' stomp attacks curiously have no knockback while shielding
Arkus's slam attack creates Tortodrone crystals in his third phase.
some of these can be facts, others can be considered theories.
1. If you notice the Construct, Lumbers, they are usually found outside of the Iron Claw Munitions Factory, yet you can find them in packs in Arenas, Wild Paths. I find this interesting, as when you look at OTHER Lumber breeds, you can see some kind of seal on their "faces", which resemble the seals on the Sealed Sword. I also can consider, Lumbers to be the "Forces of Nature" or "Guardians" as they can hit other monsters, but only if you are near them. In a way, these Lumbers could almost act like Tortodrones, a passive creature. Maybe, in a real idea, Lumbers won't even bother you, they will just walk along. Their could be proof that they are created by Gremlins, but I find it hard to believe, as I said, they are not found in ICMF, even if you find the Thwacker Hammers in tree stumps.
2. Fire Storm Citadel, and Scarlet Fortress, are realms lost within the Clockworks. Scarlet Fortress depth information: "Named for it's vibrant tapestries, the Scarlet Fortress is a deconstructed mass of a forgotten castle, drifting endlessly within the void of the Clockworks." and if you look into the Recon Module in FSC from Grantz, it says "It is almost as if the burning realm is trapped in a single moment from some forgotten time, never changing, never allowing itself to finally turn to ash." It's also stated that a "will" holds it from changing, never letting the inhabitants rest, which states Vanaduk himself, holds the Citadel in a prison, just as he is within his cursed armor.
3. Snarbolax, not the only one of its kind. This may seem silly, but just hear me out. My sources of thinking there were more Snarbolax before the one we know now, is because the SL of Gloaming Wildwoods, has two Rabid Snarbolax, and in a way, this entails that there were more type attributes of the Snarbolax. I can only say, that Snarbolax isn't this only, rare, one of a kind creature, but a creature that could be the ancient ancestor of the Wolver family. It only makes sense, as both burrow into the ground...which is the only source I have, other than howling, and biting. It's like saying if we were monkey's we lost our tails and became less hairy, but for the Wolvers case, they lost the spines on their backs and aren't able to throw them out like a Snarbolax could.
4. Gorgos are said to be Devilities who have become lazy of their work ethic.
5. Trojans are actually knights that have been corrupted. I don't know if Guardians are the only ones to become Trojans, as they are tall spiral beings who wear horse helmets, but it can be safe to say that any knight can become a Trojan. I don't know how it works, but perhaps it's a ritual, to bring fourth a Trojan spirit from the "Legion of Ur" in the Underworld, to posses a knight. Another method could be Dark Matter, a mineral which is the essence of Chaos and Nothingness, something that can be used to amplify negative emotions, this could have effected Arkus, making him become a silent warrior of stone, as he was already in enough grief of losing his comrades, and who's to say, it wasn't against Fiends?
6. Captain Desna, of the Recon Rangers, was in a group called the Golden Wolves/Dragons Iron Wolves/Dragons, which was a squad of fearless knights that targeted high profile targets of the Morai, and later formed the Recon Rangers with surviving members.
There are many more things I would like to point out, at least theories and ideas, but I'm too lazy to keep writing.
maybe there is one more I'd like to speak up about.
Shadow Lairs, could be re-creations of the past, and representations of the future, or to show an alternate universe. Category wise, I'd consider Gloaming Wildwoods SL to be the past, as their are two Snarbolax in particular, especially rabids. The alternate universe, Ice Queen. Representations of the future, Red Roarmulus Twins, and Dark Fire Vanaduke.
@Recon-Ranger-Stark
I always thought that the Scarlet Fortress and the Royal Jelly Palace were capitals of two old civilization that Almire razed to the ground with the rise of Vanaduke. Only difference is that the Royal Jelly Palace is... well... infested by jellies after Vanaduke cleared out the halls. I don't think slimes are the type of people to build brick castles, so I suspect they're merely squatters. Furthermore, the RJP and Scarlet Fortress also share the same banners, just slightly differently colored.
Just my own personal head-cannon on the matter.
@Traevelliath
In a way, Cralde, the Clockworks inside, has different legions. The Legion of Jelly, excluding the Litchens, as they are considered aliens, having no ruler, yet are abused as bio-weapons by the Gremlins, changing their genetics to be Oilers, Quicksilvers, while environmentally some become Toxigels because of the toxicity of the atmosphere in Ruined Cities. Legion of Almire, which is now a civilization of cinder and ashes. Legion of the Undead, or the Kat Tribes, as they would use magic for necromancy. The beast legion, or the Animal Kingdom you could call it, having Snarbolax take dominion, as the big dog, Vog is unknown though, more so a myth. The Crimson Order, which involves Gremlins and Constructs. Finally, the Legion of the Underworld, or Under Corp. as it's just some evil business corporation trying to take over.
I wouldn't say Almire had anything to do with the Jelly Kingdom in anyway. It's true they are squatters, as they always just love to through their weight around. I can see though, that their are those who are of loyalty, or part of the kingdom, or those that roam around in search of a home outside of the Kingdom, say for instance, Jelly Farm, or Aurora Isles. Scarlet Fortress is another story, it's really unknown to what was there to begin with. It seems to me though, their are all kinds of life within the Fortress, but mostly the Spook Kats, but maybe, there could be a connection to the Kat Tribes.
That was also an ez one. It's the same with puppy rockets, you can destroy them with swords and guns.
-Shooting howlitizer's heads is efficient.
-I didn't suck at lockdown. It was just the lack of damage boosts.
-Angelic Aura can block the damage from Shock.
-You can push Wisps with movable props
- On the main battle sequence on the Right side of the LOA's second battle for, rather than having things becoming pure hell, you can just shoot the almirian crusaders before crossing through the lowered gates.
-Glass cannon sets are way too overpowered.
-Shield dashing can be actually useful sometimes.
- I expected the Kataclysm event to be an long - waited and - fun - event. Or boy, was i wrong with that specific word.
-This " more health = more damage recieved " kinda applies on Shields.
-Bechamel is a " he "
-Timed explosive boxes have an animation other than the counter.
Concerning the 1% health bit, I'm willing to bet that's an actual mechanic, and not just a random factor.
From what I've seen, the game has a "last stand" mechanic, whereby you cannot be killed by any one hit if you are above 1% health - unless you are in an attack animation, in which case the "last stand" will not apply and you can killed by any amount of damage which exceeds your current health.
Once dropped to 1%, the "last stand" is consumed, and any damage source will kill the player. However, if the player heals by any means (hearts, pills, etc), then the "last stand" is renewed, and will be checked for validity the next time the player takes fatal damage.
So, if you're taking any offensive action (swinging your sword, holding a charge attack, etc) the "last stand" won't apply - but if you're just running or shielding, the game will drop you to 1% before applying lethal damage.
As far as I can tell, this only applies to monster damage - if you run over spike traps or some nonsense, the game will just kill you.
Naturally, this does not apply in Lockdown - but I've extended a great many suboptimal runs through Dreams and Nightmares by simply leaving a few hearts on the floor and only touching one of them if I get knocked down to 1% and need to renew that last stand.
All shields have the same HP (up until their tier nerfing isn't applied) except the Tortoise Shell and Omega Shell (which have 25% more hp).
All 4 star items gain power in the same way that 5 star items do.
Most 4 star items (at level 10) are more powerful than their 5 star version until the 5 star version until they are heated past level 8.
Respawning bomb blocks deal more damage than other respawning blocks.
The game rounds up (for damage).
The only monster that can drop more than one material at a time is the lichen. It can only do this after other smaller ones merge (large ones that spawn will still only drop max of 1).
impostocubes can spawn from rock slimes in any level with stone blocks
Sparks have a "refund" chance. If you just used one, you are much more likely to find another in a treasure box.
Lockboxes also have a "better chance from wheel right after you open one" thing.
Off the top of my head...
- Bechamel is a he
- Clockwork Tunnels are the maintenance catwalks between the other levels
- I know this is common knowledge now, but the Swiftstrike Buckler also affects guns and bombs
