In your opinion, what is the soundtrack that is just the best one, that feels epic, well - made, simply amazing, etc, that you always enjoy when it appears?
What do you think is the best in - game soundtrack?
The login screen music... always helps me when I'm feeling down.
The Danger Mission boss theme: A Dangerous Game
A close second is Whitespace Swarm
I think my most favourite is Whitespace Ambient. Someone on YouTube got an idea to mash both Whitespace tracks together (since they are both equally long) and made this video, Whitespace Mixed. Of course, also Whitespace Swarm is great. Official version: Shadow's Swarm.
Other tracks I enjoy are Boss 2 (A Dangerous Game),Blast Network SD (Krogmo's Got a Short Fuse, starts at 2:44), Gremlin (Mettle of a Gremlin, I find it more enjoyable on YouTube than in game), and also Prologue.
I really enjoy listening to "Noxious Descension", I don't know why.
There's also "Lichen to a Polyp", "Two Slimes are better than one", "Roar of the Munitions Factory" and "Buzzkill".
Whitespace Mixed is actually just Harry Mack's "Shadow's Swarm".
A favorite of mine is the Main Theme mixed with the Crash Site theme.
(obviously Cradle is on that list too)
I have some favorites for certain.
Main theme is pretty bland for a name but one of my favorite songs. Construct (Around the Clock Workshop), Blast Network (Krogmo's Got A Short Fuse), and pretty much every boss theme in the game, including the unused original Boss 2 song.
If anyone's got some free time and really likes the battle/boss music of the game, I made a little compilation a while back of all the main battle/boss themes along with some visuals: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9VeGk6fO80
Can use it as either background music or a fun watch! I like to throw it at people when I'm explaining what Spiral Knights is, as although it's a lengthy video it kind of encapsulates the general feel that is Spiral Knights.
I love listening to Unforgiving Onslaught.
It's not as fancy as some other songs, but I also like Claws of Nature - it works perfectly in the level it was put in.
There's also Krogmo's Got a Short Fuse, though I haven't actually heard it ingame (I don't really play PvP); I just found it scrolling through the soundtrack.
Sky Island Skirmish is my definite pick for best song in the game, and I'm not sure if I'll ever be convinced otherwise.
The Spiral Knights Main Theme. It usually plays when you're in a battle room after pressing the party button.
This track just feels special to me; the darker tone it seems to have compared to normal combat music while subsequently fighting an enemy that seemingly can't be beaten yet just makes me want more tracks like it.
I bring this up a lot but not everyone knows. Whitespace Swarm is actually a remix of the crash site music. You can see this by the fact that both whitespace soundtracks are meant to be played over each other, and since Whitespace Ambient is a remix of the Main Theme you can kind of put two and two together (especially since crash site is supposed to be played over the main theme, or as a lesser version of the main theme. This is solidified by the tutorial level before rescue camp switching from the crash site song to the main theme after meeting up with Rhendon).
This is why, I believe, people are so fond of the Whitespace Swarm music. You only ever hear the crash site music once, and it's always in the back of your brain since then. After reaching the end of the game, those initial memories are not even really around, but when Whitespace Swarm plays, it pulls you back into that initial wonder you had when you were first starting.
It's very suiting that the "final music" you hear in this game is a remixed version of the first song you ever get to play to.
Fangel's description is really compelling. I imagine. For other people. But not me.
I'm a player who turned off the game music about 10 seconds after launching the Spiral Knights application in April 2011. I like to listen to my own music, whether it be rock, hip-hop, jazz, baroque/classical/romantic, or whatever (or nothing). But everyone says that Spiral Knights has a strong soundtrack.
In which scene of the game am I most missing out?
To put it a different way: Which scene is ho-hum ignoring the music, but really amazing in how the music complements the rest of the content?
For example, as an outsider I would guess that the Arkus battle has special, poignant music. But nobody's mentioned it, so maybe it doesn't. If that's the case, then Arkus is an anti-example of what I'm asking for.
@Bopp
There are so many moments that it's honestly kinda hard to pick. I really love the SK soundtrack. It's one of my favorites in video gaming.
Off the top of my head, the example that has been mentioned the most: The Swarm. The various Whitespace themes do a great job setting up the atmosphere of the terrifying yet mysterious entity. I never realized that Whitespace Swarm was a remix of the main theme until Fangel pointed it out.
Though it hasn't been mentioned before, I quite like the Firestorm Citadel themes (For example, the FSC battle theme). Admittedly, it loses most of its luster after grinding the place a thousand times. Nonetheless, I like how it takes an almost Egyptian approach, like the type of music you'd hear in the middle of a hot desert. The dry sound really meshes well with the aesthetic of the citadel.
In general, most of the boss strata themes do a good job establishing the atmosphere of the places they represent. The Ironclaw Munitions Factory is dark, with a mechanical feel to it, emphasizing the industrial nature of the environment. On the other hand, the Royal Jelly Palace is light and goofy, reflecting the somewhat silly nature of a sovereign slime.
But even simple moments like waking up to Winterfest and hearing the winter Haven theme for the first time, reminds me of Christmas morning. Or how Halloween in Haven has a spooky yet oddly goofy feel to it that perfectly reflects the Punking. I could go on forever.
In which scene of the game am I most missing out?
I would say the Collector's original boss fight early-game is heavily enhanced by the presence of Unforgiving Onslaught when you first play through the game - probably the first time you'll get to listen to the song for long.
The song itself isn't special, but it certainly makes the fight feel like it is, and the deep, slow, slightly mechanical-sounding tones you hear throughout compliment the environment excellently.

I don't actually remember what theme played during the battle with Arkus. I'll have to replay that sometime.
Edit: That would be Buzzkill, as mentioned below.
It definitely sets the theme for the fight, but it's also fairly toned down, and feels more like a background ambience than a truly epic song.
I think it was Buzzkill if I'm not mistaken. But I have only fight him once so I may be wrong.
Am I the only one who things Sky Island Skirmish is the best song in the game?
...oh
@Ze-Epik
It's definitely one of the oldest songs in SK. Probably the most nostalgia-inducing song for me.
Thanks for the recommendations. I'll start doing some targeted listening. :)
I really like lucky knight for some reason.

The Spiral Knights soundtrack is really something special. I don't really listen to much music, and am quite content sitting in silence most of the time. However I do enjoy listening to game soundtracks (primarily Spiral Knights, Payday 2, Undertale, OG Binding of Isaac). Spiral Knights is one of those games that sets its themes very well. Artistic direction for visuals is amazing, sound and music design is wonderful, story elements are present yet they don't get into your face too hard, actual gameplay is smooth and very satisfying, etc.
While the common background music is nothing to write home about (clockwork tunnels, status variants), they do fit their environment. One way to see this is to play through a candlestick keep with the music on - prior to the new music being created, it played the same music as a graveyard, which made the place seem ominous, slow, and spooky. With the music change to its current song, it turned the levels into a fast paced panic where enemies are flying all over your screen and you're constantly in danger of being bit by the grimalkin. The levels themselves didn't change, just the music did, but this change alters the entire player perception of the levelset.
Nothing We Can’t Handle is my favorite track on volume 1 of the soundtrack. The tones are amazing and mesh so well
I've just heard Whitespace Swarm for the first time.
I still stand by my statement that Sky Island Skirmish is the best piece, but...
DANG.
That's some rockin' beats right there
(...that sounds so stupid)
1. Cradle. Its simply amazing.
2. Tied beetwen Whitespace ambient and Traversing The Aurora Isles
3. Whitespace Swarm
I'd put Sanctuary here too, but i disliked how it could be perfect for a sad OST, But it is just placed in a part of the game that seems rushed and unfinished. The track itself is pretty nice tho.
Try reading over the end of the Dreams and Nightmares dialogue with Parma's scout, but slowly and with the music flowing through. It's a perfect antithesis to Whitespace Swarm - if you listen hard enough, you can even hear the faint noises of the swarm echoing in Sanctuary's music, which further emphasizes its location.
I still feel like it somewhat... Doesn't fit with that part...
I haven't played in ages but I still have a playlist I listen to now and then. I got my tracks straight from game files, but here's Volume I for reference:

My recommended picks:
Sky Island Skirmish / Traversing the Aurora Isles (sky islands day action/ambient)
// Great melody, bass, and beat.
A Perfect Snowball (freeze)
// Simply beautiful. Calm and relaxing but with a hint of sadness...
As The Clocks Tick / Encounter Clockwise / The Gears Keep Turning (clockwork action/ambient)
// These are also used in guild halls, so listening to them brings back a lot of (bettersweet?) memories.
Pit Stop (subtown)
// Theme of Emberlight, city of gremlin outcasts. Depressing stuff.
City Rubble Rumble / Navigating The Dark City (city action/ambient)
// Really nice chord progression and buildup
Claws Of Nature (beast)
// 14:40 gives me chills every single time. Epic.
Cradle
// Login theme. Pavlovian response. 'Nuff said.
Storming The Fortress / Forgotten Castle (castle action/ambient)
// Serene melancholy.
Mission UI
youtu.be/Ygu73d0EmUE
// Contender for all-time favorite, mostly because of the memories. But it's so sad when I think back to the old days... Boohoo, poor me.
Sanctuary
youtu.be/zwOYuWFHGGU
// Another beautiful track. The emotional swell at 1:38 is indescribable.
Winterfest (haven in winter)
youtu.be/1x_BN_bT9OA
// My favorite of the three versions.
Roar of the Munitions
youtu.be/qu4Fc0sOl0o
// Only boss theme I actually like enough to not skip.
Whitespace Ambient/ Whitespace Swarm
youtu.be/Bjq9VmL_OXU
youtu.be/zBnsYC4hHZM
// Good tracks, but it was the feel of the tileset that made it so memorable.
Bonus: Phantom Dirge
// Whenever I want Grimalkin flashbacks.
Another bonus: Shroud of the Apocrea theme
youtu.be/VxIu5zlxBHw
// Amazingly well done. Perfect mix of creepy and exciting for a great event. (too bad grinding for the aura made it so boring)
Dangerous Game is still a little too generic for my liking, and Sombre is a tad bit creepy.
Sky Island Skirmish.
