I love this game and used to play it a lot. There is 1 thing in the whole game that simply blows the whole thing for me however and that is the idiotically huge floor model keys hanging in mid air across the levels. When I think of a key, I think of a key ring, or a key card that fits in my pocket or at least in a pack. Seeing a 9 foot tall 'key' laying loose on a minimap or main map is 1 thing, that is just denoting on map scale where the thing is located. But when I walk up to it and get a look at this rediculously huge thing that is supposed to open doors and gates, but instead looks like it could be a huge gate to something itself because it's taller than my character on the screen, this simply annihilates any immersion to be gained from the game for me. I realize this is probably eye of the beholder type subjective thinking and all, but nonetheless, I'm brawling through a level having a hugely fun time, then I come up on this incredibly out of place and stupid looking thing that looks like it was ripped out of some FF5 fanatic's wet dream and tossed into this game, and I think to myself, that's just simply stupid looking. Why do that even in a game with toonish graphics? If the things weren't literally everywhere in every level, and just an occasional easter egg type thing instead, that would make sense. The stupid looking things are literally everywhere on most levels to open things so I'm constantly confronted with an element of the game that simply doesn't fit the scene. If those 'keys' could be scaled down to look like actual keys, layiing around on a table, or dropped from some gate guards or miniboss, then the keys mechanic would fit perfectly into this game. If they remain these massive 9 foot tall floor model statue looking things however, I'll have to continue playing other stuff that doesn't have such out of place elements instead.
Keys go on key chains, or in key card slots.
... the keys are Vanaduke size? Did he lock all those doors?
so it's a problem to have exaggerated sizes of objects in a toon-ish style game?
It's supposed to be like this cause teamwork is underrated, one holds the key while others clear the way and protect them. Making it like picking a mineral would make it kinda lame to be honest.
@Zero-Chill I can't stand people running around with a key, while their teammates get beaten up by gremlins. I expect teammates to drop the key and help. That's what I also do and it disgusts me if somone thinks picking up the key makes him a VIP suddenly and all others are to die or do his dirty work for him. If I see something like that, I often stop fighting too (to demonstrate and indicate the issue) and maybe even go solo (if I think it's a hopeless case).
If we treated somone with a key special, it would teach people to make a run for the key instead of doing proper teamwork, like helping to clear out the map, making sure the mates won't get cornered/surrounded and giving them buffs with your sprites abilities.
I think I can take care of most of the monsters while my teammate carry a key, which makes levels much faster, depending on the kind of level of course. Example: Drawing monster's attention in D&N's first couple floors while your teammate carries the key from the other side of the map. It's also pretty helpful in a 2-man party with a bomber that the other knight goes for the key while the bomber kills all the monsters.
The keys are large because it's a video game, and the large key allows a player to know what it is at a quick and immediate glance.
Also the keyholes on doors are rather large, so a large key doing this is not unexpected.
Can't wait for a new gameplay mechanic where knights have to overturn everything and ask everyone if they're sitting on their keys only to realize it's in their pocket.
