What's the market for art commissions on Spiral Knights?
I'm curious because I'm thinking of offering commissions in exchange for crowns or energy crystals or items but I want to know if anyone would be willing to do that.
So what do you think would be fair prices for things like pencil sketches? Inks? colors? I'd love some feedback and suggestions to know if there is enough people interested. If there's enough interest I can post what sort of things I could offer.

I like that idea! I think it would be better if this forum allowed the embedding of images and avatars/signatures. I think people might still be willing to purchase though. :)

If you're interested in selling your art, then go there. Spiral Knights is a game, not an art market.
I'm doing this as a past time to be involved in the game and it's users even after I've run my energy limit for the day. I'm not asking for real money, and I don't plan to make this expensive in any way...it's purely for fun.

Anyway, Sky, it'd all depend on your quality. I'd recommend making a DA to show off work though. :)

the only issue is that I will have to either just post links for examples and finished commissions, or do it on a different site.
I might make a commission-esque deviantart aside from the one I already have and post a link in a new thread.
Soooo...as for prices...would it be easier to break it down into segments like
pencil sketch = $
black and white = $$
full color = $$$
or just do an all encompassing price and offer one kind?
Avatar/portrait commissions make games more personable and fun. YPP (OOO's previous creation) has had a dedicated forum for avatars and artsy events for years and the community loves it.

In my other games and forums and such, art commissions are super fun and they help my supply of moneyz (in this case, crowns). I'm doing a few commissions through other sites right now, but I think it would be awesome if an art community was started here. Even if players aren't looking for their SK avatars to be drawn, most have other game characters, OCs, etc. they want art of. :3

I'm in full support of this. I really would like to do commissions for in-game currency, as another way of getting by through the crown inflation. Avatars or small sketches and whatnot. A lot of MMOs I've been in previously (like Flyff and TF2) had people set up shop with those.

As far as pricing is concerned though, one thing with commissions that shouldn't change is how much would you be willing to earn versus how much work you put into it. Afterwards, its just a matter of converting that to the in-game currency amount that you feel would be appropriate. Check the market as the prices tend to fluctuate a lot and settle on a price that would be affordable to people. Not just those that have the paychecks to use on art but also those people that may want one just cause its nice.
And for your own prices well...that's up to you. I'd say research a bit on how much artists are charging for their works and quality and see if people would be willing to spend as much on your art, or however you feel you deserve.
