Shroud of the Apocrea: Anyone receiving crashes?

Heya, so I am experiencing immense frustration with the event even though I have been looking forward to its arrival. As you can tell from the title, the big problem is CRASHING.

I don't understand, my game's quality is at Low and everywhere in the game runs very smoothly. It's only when I try to enter the Grasping Plateau levels that my game application keeps crashing, not responding and/or shutting down entirely. Why it doesn't make sense to me is because about 3-4 years ago, I had played this event on Kongregate with a much weaker computer, only having an i3 core and a 4GB RAM and it ran most of the game slower, but it still managed to run Shroud of the Apocrea

Now with an i5 computer with 8GB RAM and even with SK being the only application opened, I still crash. I restarted my computer and it still crashed, and the thing that fuzzles me is the fact that none of my guildmates and friends are experiencing this, some with even weaker computers. How do I fix it? Does anyone have any suggestions? Is anyone experiencing this terrible crashes?

I used to have a lot of issues with the mission. Less so this time around, but I've still crashed a few times. Things seem to have improved when I switched from fullscreen to windowed.

That said, the issues came from my graphics card. That's probably the thing you should be most focused on improving, rather than stuff like processing power or RAM.

No more crashes c:

Hmm, well, my guildies told me to update it, which I did but it still crashes.

edit: After searching up, I decided steam was using my intel HD graphics card instead of my nvidia geforce card. After I switched it, I can now run without crashing. Thanks for reminding me of my graphics card :)

Many people have issues with this mission

The Grasping Plateau, in particular, is a bugfest.

Seems like that since years, some people constantly crash and others experiencie issues such as their screens going pitch black. I for example, sometimes ( Usually D29 ) on that map my FPS vuta to 33% of what it usually is and my game freezes every 5 secs or so. Only way to fix is rejoining

yeah

I was talking to a friend about this the other day, and we all know apocrea uses massive maps. They related the apocrea map being similar to, say, minecraft render distance being absurdly far. Certain machines will run it just fine, but lower end ones may run into issues (and certain higher end ones may as well).

Hopefully we can see a change in the future where only the areas around individual knights is rendered for each player to allow for less crashes.

my friend have random crashes in apocrea, i used to have random crashes in the game but not exactly in apocrea, just on any level i would play. someone told me is because my SK was running a old Java version so he suggested me to download the new java according for my OS, so i then dowloaded java 64bits for win 8.1, he told me to copy the folder inside the java i installed, then move to spiral knights folder, rename the folder java_vm to java_vm_2 and then paste the folder i previously copy and renamed to java_vm along with other stuff.

after i did what he suggested me i didnt have anymore crashes,i dont know about my friend if he still crash in apocrea because we will find it out tomorrow. but at least for me the random crashes dissapeared as soon i did that

Ah the Shroud of Memory Leak

It really is, since it is probably the biggest map to load at once and the game doesn't seem to be making use of culling. That being said turning on Cull Transients could help (but is flawed because things like bullets and respawning blocks are not rendered when you arrive to that area, yet another sign of Three Ring's laziness).

AND REMEMBER to restart your game every session or every 30 minutes because of glorious SK memory leak. Change the java priority to High in task manager too.

I was going to tell you to change your SK client to 64 bit java, but I forgot to post and then gentleman before me took the chance to mention it. Just follow this, and try the extra.txt - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=675719352
