Welcome to another complaint post about loot boxes.
Plot twist:
i actually like loot boxes i just want them cheaper.
($5 for just a tech pith helm hurts my heart)

Popular games with $2.49 loot box systems:
CS:GO
TF2
PUBG

Popular games with $1 loot box systems:
Rocket League
Overwatch (cheaper for a bunch)

I'm sure there's other games but im lazy.

A single drop loot crate for $5 ($3.50 if you spent $50 at a time) seems a bit high, so in all my wisdom i came up with 3 plans

Plan A:
$2.50 each, keep single drops

Plan B:
Keep the price, double or triple the meaty drops. (I want 3 mixers from one crate)

Plan C:
EXP system somewhat similar to fortnite battle pass (ew) and whatnot that drops crates as rewards for playing.
No F2P path is fine, but something to work towards would add a lot more substance to the game.

I can't be totally sure, but it kinda makes sense that if prices go down, sales go up and you don't lose any profits.

Thanks for reading, i'll check back occasionally to bask in all the support im getting.

for those who don't know

According to the SK web site: One prize box costs $5. If you buy 14 at a time, then they cost about $3.50 each ($50 total).

'bscuse me

>misunderstanding, fixed in post
$3.50 is still more than every one of my comparisons, and not conducive to your average Joe who doesn't have $50 to spend on each new loot crate

agree

I was not taking a position. I was simply stating the facts, to help people (like me) who don't know SK prize box prices.

Edit: It now appears that this information was in the original post. Somehow I missed it. So my posts are redundant. Sorry.

Remember, don't shoot food.

Yes please. The biggest reason I don't buy prize boxes is because they feel so expensive for what they give.

it was kind of tied to $2.50 for regular lockboxes.

1 Silver Key = 750 energy = $2.50

i guess

A fair point but that's not an exclusively monetized item, if i was gonna get a regular lockbox i would just grind up the money and not have to spend any.

At least in my opinion, that's a different category. Use the card or work hard. I want my exclusively pay to win items

i'm with flowchart on this

Lockboxes were the original prize boxes, and were created to reflect the TF2 crate system. In TF2, crates can be opened for $2.50 keys. In Spiral Knights, you can get a silver key for that price, and you "find" lockboxes in a similar way.

The paid boxes model is OK in my eyes, I only wish we were given more options for obtaining the boxes. Having boxes offered as energy bonuses on top of standalone boxes on top of supply depot boxes gives the option to get boxes to everyone which means more cool stuff in the economy. I'd also love to be able to trade spark tokens for boxes or keys of some sort, but that's just wishful thinking.
