Recently a hole was discovered in the Steam APIs, that let people deduce how many total players a game has.

https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2018/07/steam-data-leak-reveals-precise-p...

Interestingly, Spiral Knights comes in at 5,226,655. And presumably this figure doesn't count SK players who don't use Steam.

@Bopp

Thanks, that actually makes me happy to see that spiral could be that high. But is that including the amount of people that play on a monthly basis, or just the amount of registered accounts?

Ammount of registered accounts.

If this game had that much people a month, it would be much more alive than it is now.

@OP

Hmm, nice. I was also surprised at some other numbers in there.

i saw it too!

I think it's pretty awesome how Spiral Knights has the number 50 spot on that list of registered steam accounts. I'm actually running a little giveaway on our discord server in celebration of it, so if anyone wants to get in on that feel free to join us! http://discord.me/spiralknights

Whoa.

@Bopp

You know, I haven't kept count on how many accounts Spiral Knights still has. Last I knew years ago, it was over 1,000,000. Today, it's over 5,000,000. I'm very surprised about this discovery, Bopp. I'm relieved to know plenty still play it. Yay. We just gotta keep that total going.

@Glushy

That includes both.

The people at GH got very lucky to keep SK going, and we're lucky to keep playing it. Let's keep this going as long as we can!

"Erecting a Handgun Dispenser."

I'm legitimately surprised people still play Monday Night Combat, while its successor isn't even featured on the list. Granted, 707k players isn't a lot, but I'll take that many players over none at all.

In other unrelated news, Loadout is, surprisingly, doing just as fine as SK, despite the fact the PC version got abandoned by the devs SMNC-style.

It's actually soul-inspiring how all of these games, SK included, still have a solid playerbase in spite of all the shenanigans that occurred around them; really makes you look back at the old times and realize they're not quite obsolete yet.

EDIT: ...And nevermind about Loadout and SMNC, as they're now completely dead because of GDPR. Goddammit, why does everything have to be so bitter for me?

Very little still play MNC & SMNC. Wow. The years go by, huh?

You know what's also unrelated, but very exciting? Sonic Mania Plus' launch day! The game's physical package comes with the art book showcasing artwork on how the game was made, including concept sketches, even about the HBH. Someone who has the book should scan & upload images from it so everyone can see them in crisp hi-res format. They're really cool to see. Who's up to it?

You know... come to think of it, there are some images from Sonic's 25th anniversary art book that have yet to be scanned & uploaded, including some very amazing sketches from past Sonic games, including Sonic Chaos(yep, they're there). Kinda thought there's plenty more than what's been included, though(I know there's still more out there).

Well, there are, however, some people still seeking never-before-seen concept artwork of early Sonic games yet to be uploaded, including artwork about the sub-bosses & major bosses in Sonic 3 & Knuckles(even those about other bosses in past games, like in Sonic's past handheld adventures for instance).

I know we've gotten to see more time to time, but I presume they're all still at the internal offices of Sega, and other devs through their co-operation, including, but not restricted to, Ancient, Aspect, SIMS, & Dimps.

Whoever's still working to get them uploaded should post their discoveries in existing galleries to the Sonic News Network Wiki.

BTW, in case some still aren't satisfied when they're still expecting more never-before-seen concept artwork &/or stock artwork about past games(I somehow know that), someone kindly request Aaron Webber about that on his social media channels sometime soon.
