Drills! That's right, drills for the Spiral Knights! I was actually rather surprised when I first saw this game and didn't see any drills available as weapons! However, I don't want to tell you about how and why I was disappointed by the lack of drills (There are posts before me that have!), but I'm going tell you why such an idea could possibly work.
Appearance: I was thinking the drill would replace the gauntlet of the hand that normally holds the weapon. I've read about previous ideas about some sort of drill spears, but I'm more interested in the idea of a drill gauntlet!
Attacks: The drills main attack would be only one attack, a quick and sustained thrust into the enemy with drill gauntlet. In this one press of a button there would be multiple hits on the enemy, going along with the drill spinning around. The charge attack could be a jump back,(maybe the drill growing a little larger?), and then two thrusts forward with the drill, doing an extra hit each than what the normal attacks would do. (Perhaps at the higher levels it could shoot a laser of some type, but that's not for me to decide!)
The drills attacks would last rather long and be rather slow compared to most other weapons, but it would have a sort of stun effect on the enemy, where once the drill pierces the enemy, the enemy will be drastically slowed down and unable to jump away (such as the Wolver series of animals often do), but would still be able to attack the driller or any other nearby ally. This would be perfect for focusing on a single enemy or a very small group, but it can become a burden when faced with large groups of enemies. If a driller is attacked while using the drill he will not be interrupted, but will take the damage and any sort of knock-back effect taken with the attack, which can be very bad for any knight that uses his drill at the wrong time. The drill effect would also not stack, so you cannot entirely paralyze an enemy if you have multiple driller. Bosses could also be immune to this effect, but that's not for me to decide.
The drill itself would have a relatively restricted range, mostly being able to attack the enemies only directly in front of the knight and perhaps to that enemies sides (the range of one slash of an average sword?), and it would afflict them all with the stun effect as written earlier. After an attack with the drill, the driller would also need to have a very short cooldown, about the length of the cooldown after a sword's 3-hit combo.
I'm also aware of the PvP system that is coming so soon, and it could definitely be far overpowered for 1v1 fights and either useless or ridiculously overpowered in team fights (a team of 4 drillers ganging up on one poor man!), but the drill is definitely countered by long rang weapons or weapons with very fast combos (such as the cutter) or stun effects, so I'm not too afraid of the notion.
I hope that the drill eventually comes into play within the arsenal of the spiral knights and that many great things will come in this game's future!
