We all know the update where slimes and cubes alike got an upgrade of piercing damage and the spikes they now wear. I thought it was cute at first since my first encounter was in tier one when fighting the new snarbolax, however when i encountered them in tiers 2 and 3 they were anything but cute, in fact they were outright horrifieing. What my question is about is why do the slimes have these spikes and piercing damage? Did they deserve this update? and the last and most important question: Doesnt these spiked slimes seem a little nerfed to the games favor? I know tier 2 is harder than tier 1 but did the slimes and spikes need this update? were they too weak? I really want to know what was in the developers heads when this update came out, and if this spiked mucos revolution will fade away or last till the game slips into obscurity someday
Slime/Cube Spikes
I really didn't like spikes on cubes because then they're no longer cubes. Jelly cubes are like the mascot of the monsters and the spikes ruin that. They could still do pierce damage because they're made of jelly so they could make a temporary appendage to stab people.
Why don't we have jellies WITH and WITHOUT spikes?
Just sayin'.
Nick said the Beast and Slime family of monsters were the ones meant to deal piercing they merely made the idea applicable since before the only time you saw spikes were on lichen colonies
wouldnt u be asking "why do slimes deal piercing damage when they don't have spikes?" if they looked normal?
I'm all cool with spiky jellies but the imposto-cubes seem a little out of place now.
The only thing that bugs me about the piercing update is that chroma SPIT now does piercing damage. There's no logical reason why spit is spiky.
"I'm all cool with spiky jellies but the imposto-cubes seem a little out of place now."
I think that's kind of the point, he was out of place even before the spike update :p.
Either way, the spikes are growing on me, they look better on the ice jellies than on the generic pink ones. (Or maybe I just like that I can melt them such that they no longer deal pierce dmg or have a long range attack lol).
I think from a game mechanics standpoint it was a much needed update, it gives people a reason to diversify armor more, and think a little bit before they leap headfirst into a pack of jellies like previously.

The Jelly cubes were iconic to the game - they shouldn't have been replaced completely.. The were so jigglishly adorable. Maybe they could make it a sub-race of the jellies. That would be so great - that way, their effort on putting up the spikes wouldn't be for nothing and players still be happy :P
The upgraded jellies are still the easiest monsters in the game.
Dangerrmouse tells the truth. The only monsters I don't hate fighting, are jellies. They're fairly standard compared to everything else.
Iconic or not, they were so GENERIC. If a monster so generic is iconic, then something is wrong.
I for one am in favor of mixing spikey and nonspikey jellies in a stage
new slimes are just as easy as before.
TL;DR?
Learn2play
hi everyone i just wanted to say i used to call them jello now i call them jello with chocolate chips on them:P
Oh, i have an idea. Why can't they have jellies holding swords and spears and all that? It would look really cute. Of course, that is until they attack you. We could also have little ones with giant samurai swords with the samurai hats and armor too.
Oh, not this thread again...
I like the upgrade. It makes them actually look threatening, which is needed for how much of a bother they've become to those unprepared.
i think they they are okay. i dont mind them. but maybe you could put the original jellies back on in the JK room. :P
Jellies were the most memorable enemy in SK until they were changed. I like the gameplay changes, but the spikes make them look like generic game enemies. I'd really like the plain cubes to return to T2, either by making jellies sprout spikes only some of the time or by adding new jellies.
Id have to admit they are growing on me as well, although they do need to bring back the originals at least in tier 1 and parts of tier 2. An idea on how the impostocube does piercing: he might try to stab you with his pipe.
the originals are still in tier 1, so the iconic enemy is still there, just not as common now that it's not on tier 2 nor 3, which is ok IMO, all enemies get more menacing/detailed the deeper you go, except for jellies, that only had a slight color change before this update.
I like the new look
I assume your talking about the spiked jellies. I believe it was more than justified because I think everyone would agree Jellies were incredibly easy before this update. At least there is somewhat of a challenge now.
