Ok, so before I start, I am not here to attack Grey Havens in the slightest, and although I havn't played this game in a long while, I still enjoy it and its community. However, I'm afraid I have to put my foot down on the most recent update to the Supply Depot.

They are currently charging 99,995 Energy for the grey persona color. And if anyone's been playing this game for any amount of time, you would know that essentially, you are being charged over 200$ USD for a recolor H̶e̶l̶l̶,̶ ̶n̶o̶t̶ ̶e̶v̶e̶n̶ ̶a̶ ̶r̶e̶c̶o̶l̶o̶r̶ ̶a̶s̶ ̶g̶r̶e̶y̶ ̶i̶s̶ ̶t̶e̶c̶h̶n̶i̶c̶a̶l̶l̶y̶ ̶a̶ ̶s̶h̶a̶d̶e̶.̶.̶.̶

I can understand making a certain cosmetic item a bit pricey for artificial rarity, and I understand this free-to-play game needs to make its money somehow, but no micro transaction in any game should ever cost over 200$, cosmetic or not. I can only imagine that this price was made more-so out of desperation than intentional anti-consumerism. (Again, I'm not trying to personally attack GH or any of its members.) Transactions like this mirror similar actions made by larger companies like EA and Activation as of recent years, and while I have no problems with GH trying to make some money with in-game purchases and artificial rarity, I feel this has taken it too far and should not become a trend, less GH recessives too much negative press and backlash.

And as one last note, the negative effects of this pricing can already be seen with Energy market currently going into a downward spiral out of people's desperation to get their hands on this recolor.

I’m fine with artificial rarity and the need to make some form of revenue somehow, but a line does have to be drawn somewhere, and wherever it is drawn, $200 clearly goes far beyond it.

User created prices should not effect a company's official pricing. if they did, anything considered a "collectors item", like amiibos, would skyrocket in price within the first few months of release, making them almost impossible to buy from the shelf.

then do not buy it

If a good or service is priced higher than you want to pay, then do not buy it. By voting with your money, you send a much stronger signal than any forum post.

If you are here to raise a complaint on behalf of other players --- whales and gambling addicts --- then you might have a point to make. But you have not actually raised that point in your post.

They probably do this because of a simple two sided argument that crops up regarding this constantly-

Player A) I want a shot at the rare items!
Player B) That wouldn't be fair to those of us that already bought one because the price went up and-
Player A) SO WHAT???
Player B) Well we'd all feel ripped off..

ERGO. They make it cost less than what players are selling it for (which is a good 500-600+ dollars) but more than a reasonable amount, so that I can still feel special and so that others can have a fair shot at getting the item. I could go on but lets be honest I have 10 people reading this ever and none of them want to hear it.

Just putting it out there that for $200 you could buy 4 copies of Earth Defense Force 4.1 and 4 copies of Risk of Rain 2 and still have a whole lot of money to spare for beers and pizzas and any one of those things are going to give you more enjoyment and good social times than an off-gray colour on your knight ever could.

I have to agree with

I have to agree with @Promos-are-content.

True i recently suffered a loss from recent sales and flash that made me upset. I'm talking about years of treasuring those items. First my Rose Aura with a promo return and fair bigger chances of getting it. It's nowhere as special as it was. Then Prismatic Seraph Wings, i had them for as many years as the first promo where they were came out and now they're as common as bolted vees... Next Polar Wolver Tail, It was the only item left that still made my set somewhat unique since they weren't that common and a bit hard to find, i had it just as long as i remember and how did I feel about my treasured items being re-realeaswd in a way their old value is meaningless... But at least people can get those now for much less than they were priced at throughout the years.
Aside from that loss I got a shot on obtaining Skolver Slippers a long wanted item and hard to get since only a bout 1 or 2 in game and you can imagine how much the owner wanted for them who doesn't even care at this rate... And now Silver Color which i lost the chance to get since prices sky rocketed and rarity of getting as well as demand increased.
It makes me feel that my treasured items aren't that much of a loss anymore since i got a shot at having 2 things i thought of impossible to get and without making them totally worthless.

So finally I feel spoiled and not upset anymore. On the other hand certain rare items i still own are on the risk of that unless they just make these kind of prices that doesn't completly anihilate their value.
If people actually pay those to merchants why wouldn't they pay directly without any trouble.

ehh

This isn't the first time a highly sought after extremely rare item has come back. The price point isn't unreasonable since it's something that affects every armor, costume, and some accessories even.

Personal colors haven't had a "rare" or exclusive color until this one, and on top of that it's a 1% box item from 2 years ago. Honestly speaking, 1% box items that are desirable aren't uncommon to go for tens of thousands of energy, but they can only ever be applied to a single armor or helmet piece making them less of a "game changer".

Something to keep in mind that this is a 1% unbox item. This means that for every 100 boxes opened, one silver personal color should have come into existence. The current price for it amounts to around 60 boxes being opened, but without all the other boxes involved.

The actual price of the silver personal color is somewhere around $356 based on the 14 boxes for $50 amount. This means the supply depot price from purely a percentages angle where the item has zero competition (there is no lighter or darker shade of grey as a personal color after all) is around 60% of the actual unboxed price. Oddly enough this makes it more reasonable to purchase, logically, however the price is still high enough to the point where it will still be very, very rare.

(Personally I'd prefer it to be around 75kE, but that'd only be around $167, which isn't too huge of a difference in terms of "yes i'll buy it" and "no i refuse to pay that much")

Meh

A lot of what I hear regarding the silver personal color being on the depot are just two sides of the same coin.
- People who are happy cause they can afford it finally without paying what was once over 500kE+ in market value.
- People who are upset because it's too expensive and deem it as unreasonable.

And yes, I can see from both sides how that would work. But to me, I feel a lot of it is just all in the head. The main thing that people seem to forget is that this item was pretty much impossible to obtain for multiple reasons, and because of that most people resigned the idea of ever getting one. Suddenly rather than it being impossible, it's juuuuust out of reach or barely in reach.

What I don't seem to understand is that now, they're much more affordable and available than they were before (1/5th of market price) - why so much negativity? But yes they are still un-affordable or not worth it for most of the playerbase. This is the same case with most of the more popular debuting flash sale items - Wolver/Skolver slippers, Seraph Wings - but just on a much larger scale.

Not to mention, a personal color is unique that it effects EVERY costume you have. You can't unbind it from your character, but you can equip and un-equip it with the price of 1,000 crowns. It's very reasonable to me, for this 1% unbox item, to be more expensive than other flash sale items.

I would very much understand the outrage if it was like a mixer though, since that would be a combat/gameplay advantage.
Silver personal color is just a unique kind of cosmetic. People can choose to ignore it just like raider horns.

"vote with your wallet" only

"vote with your wallet" only works if we get a majority of people to stop paying GH for cuckoldry. We need to consolidate the player base and tell them we don't like the financial choices we are being fed. The non existent players who don't use forums though don't even care enough to make a difference though.

We don't even know if people are buying this stuff or not. Let's be honest.

Is anyone who's reading this thread right now giving GH their money? Have you purchased anything of this amount?

Am I entitled to be an angry customer if I know it's just a load of bull to spend 200$ for a color, regardless of what "merchants" say it's worth?

FYI "merchants" who would be selling the original color haven't equipped it yet, so of course they want to explode the profits, because you only have to open 350$ worth of boxes for a 1% chance of something.

Why are the former employees of OOO and their current employees so stupid to not sell me what I want directly?

We have rocket space ships knights with fire gun explodey swords from the future. You think management could come up with a better distribution system for their players.

Floopy headed. I would not be proud to call myself a "game developer" if it meant having this job.

I don't want to be angry, but this game drives me to become angry.

RimWorld once had a character

RimWorld once had a character (Pirate King) pack that costed over 200$. And is the game 'dying' or 'desperate'? no.
Some players will pay, some people will not.
Grey havens is giving people who pay an opportunity to get something that they want. They're leaving the item there as a choice.
If you don't care for it or feel that it isn't worth it, then just don't buy it, as Bopp said the devs will see how well it goes to decide what to sell next.
imo, I don't think they'll do this again. This was an unexpected supply depot sale that wasn't notified through forums etc as a surprise. I'm pretty sure they won't be hosting much surprises, and even if they do they'll change the contents to make it more appealing to buyers.

Lol figured something like this will pop up. Personally I got the color during the promo event and seeing it come again, I kinda figured out they'll do something like this so it's no surprise. Least it'll give more people a chance to get some rare items even though for some they see it behind a big paywall they must overcome unless they're really good at merching or have enough to buy it.

Some of the items mentioned by people in here are rare, but I'm kind of surprised they haven't mentioned other items which are totally overlooked and/or forgotten. Like how about the Wings of Rage (the red version of the Wings of Fury)? I only seen these on ONE person and he's gone forever lawl. Or maybe frenzy sealed pauldrons? Like no one has these yet the promo event ad shows it. They released raging sealed pauldrons so maybe they'll release thunderous sealed pauldrons? Also there's this one other item that I personally have (from what I heard only 3 people in the game have it; I'm possibly the only active one that has it atm) but I won't list it cuz otherwise GH will look at it and be like 'hmm now that he mentioned it lets add it to SD!'. Golden dragon set possibly since they showed on the promo ad but was never released until one of the featured auctions lol? If you want you can ask for them to add dreadful aura cuz back then that was in really high demand.

Who knows it could be anything and it is the anniversary event right now so they're celebrating 8 years by giving us some neat stuff even though it's expensive. I'm neutral on this sort of thing so really it's nothing to be mad at anymore. I'll admit I was ticked off when they released the first gen rose sets during featured auction houses but it's all good since it wasn't in the SD so it wouldn't be widely bought out. Nowadays I don't really care but hey if it gets to you, just ignore it. It's only pixels on a screen lol and with that amount of dough I can buy more useful stuff in or outside the game.

Regarding the price

I agree with how the silver colour is more overpriced than it should be I was around when the event appeared and just remember the "special snowflakes" out there complaining about being ripped off if the price was cheaper don't forget that people bought the thing for 8k energy while the wales have to pay over 200 so your already being ripped off from the start.

I know how game addictions start as someone who spent over £3000.00 on a mmo that is closing on the 15th of may.

But don't forget guys that everything will come to an end eventually and when it does happen the more real money you spend on the game the more its going to bite you in the back when the game eventually closes. And not every company cares no matter how much money gets thrown at it.

This is the main issue with online games that I try not to get too much into but as for me I believe ot should be cheaper.

There is much other ways for grey havents to make money besides the game has plenty of content that is unused atm and tones of accessories that arent even on the market anymore...

Those who want to keep the item for themselves I see as kind of selfish and destructive to themselves.

And I know this from experience.
