So, what about a Spiral Knights II?

I'm not here to say the game is dead, but to try to make an imagination exercise since we're seeing the inevitable decline of the game.

So, I've been thinking... there's a possibility for a SK II in the foreseen future? How would it be? What you guys would think should change? Any ideas? I think that there should be another way to the progression system in the game, not totally linked to armour or weapons, since once you have all the equipment you can have, it's basically the endgame. There's no re-playability value to the game whatsoever once you get to that. I think that the game too should have more bosses and different maps, not only on the clockworks but other parts of the planet too. There's a lot to cover! So, what do you think? It may not be possible, but I think is nice to imagine. Maybe the discussion can productive and something can come as fruition of it.

PS: man, I really miss 2012.

user-generated content (again)

Arguably release 2013-07-30 was Spiral Knights 2.0, because of the total overhaul of the economy and party dynamics (and features such as battle sprites). But that doesn't change your point, which is: How could Spiral Knights be massively overhauled to make it more re-playable and long-lasting?

As far as I can tell, there are two ways to generate content. The traditional way is for the company to put out new material. Big companies with many paying customers can manage this; apparently Grey Havens and Spiral Knights cannot. The new-economy way is for the users to generate content for each other. There are various ways to gamify this, some of which would lead to massive alterations to the game, perhaps for the better. For this reason, user-generated content has been suggested many times.

I think the old way of producing content is dead. No longer do companies need to release sequels; rather, they can just upgrade existing products in a continuous flow of excitement. This creates the concept of the game as a platform-- platform games are half game, half social media. A good game developer will leverage this to their advantage and create cheap updates that sell well. In our case, we have promotional prize boxes and little else, which leads to a steady decline.

The reason for this appears to be a faulty level editor, which makes creation of levels difficult and tedious. It would be prudent of our developers to focus their efforts on creating a new level creation tool, or as Bopp suggests, outsource some of the difficult and tedious level creation parts to some of the playerbase.

@Bopp

It wasn't 2.0. Look at WoW, WoT, TF2 then and now.

"users to generate content"

I was just thinking that, imagine giving this game the same treatment as warframe and TF2 where plays can generate their own cosmetics and then grey heavens just picks which ones they like and adds it to the game. Imagine SK but with user created maps, a map editor would probably breath alot of fresh air into this game.

I've talked about this quite

I've talked about this quite a lot with people and most of us agree on a level editor of some kind but balancing it will be a big issue in my opinion. Either way I think we definitely need a major update of this sort.

As appealing as it may be the Mario Maker route (Spiral Maker?) isn't a good fit for Spiral Knights. Teaching the player about layers, trying to make them balance treasure, and more so how to design levels isn't a good idea because most of the playerbase is rather young or not designer savvy to say the least.

That being said, we have access to the level editor via Spiral Spy. If you ask the right people you too can make Spiral Knights levels. The issue is that you can't really play test them... but if you really wanted to, you could make and submit a level to Grey Havens. Maybe they'll hire you. If they were to hire a few people for low wages to make maps then maybe they could pump out enough content to keep us content. Who knows.
