What's up all, T-Fizzle here with another art contest to take up all that free time no-one has in the New Year. 😏

Keeping up with the tradition I started back in 2018, we're running another Spiral Knights Art Contest as a way to celebrate the game, its developers, and the community! Last year I ran a design contest to create your own Spiral Knights armor set, and this year we're taking the next step in designing your own weapon instead!

If you want to see the great pieces of work people made last year, you can check out last year's thread here: https://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/121511

HOW TO ENTER

  1. Design a new and original weapon for this event - if you want to make a few with the same theme (like how BTB and DBB are) feel free
  2. Turn that design into a reality! You can use digital art, physical drawing, sewing wizardry, or anything else to create a visual for the rest of us
  3. Create a unique description for your new weapon. Puns are encouraged, but not required!
  4. If you're up for it, make up a stat table for your creation and describe how the attack combo works
  5. Post your art online using an image hosting website, such as Imgur or Deviantart
  6. Submit your entry in this thread, using the following format:
    Knight Name:
    Discord Name: (Optional)
    Twitter Name: (Optional)
    Link to entry:
    Weapon Description:
    Stats: (Optional)

RULES AND GUIDELINES

  • All entries must be new and created for this event. Old designs can be re-imagined if so desired
  • Try to keep your weapon designs in-line with what you might see in-game. You can read up on Ian's old armor style guide here if that helps get the creative flow moving!
  • If you want to make a full weapon line, you may be inspired by Ian's take when designing the gunner update sets, which can be found by clicking here.
  • When crafting an item's stats, you don't have to give exact numbers, just the damage type. If you have an exact way you imagine it attacking, feel free to describe it or showcase it in your artwork!
  • You can enter as many times as you'd like, but you can only win once

The cut off time for this event is January 21st, with final voting on the entries happening on January 22nd on the unofficial Spiral Knights Discord Server, which can be joined via this link: http://discord.me/spiralknights

All players who enter into the contest will additionally be entered into a prize raffle. The first, second, and third highest voted entries will receive 7,500 Energy, however everyone who enters will have a chance at raffle prizes! We'll be sure everyone who enters gets a prize, but if we still have extra prizes after granting everyone some, we'll issue additional prizes until all of them have found a new home!

If you'd like to donate any items to the raffle, feel free to mail me in-game at the knight "Fangel", or contact me on the Spiral Knights Discord Server (I should be fairly easy to spot on there).

Let's hack n' slash our way though the new decade with these new weapons!

Try to keep your weapon designs in-line with what you might see in-game.

Spiral Knights is one of those old games that has abandoned much of its original theming over the years in favor of catering to a large variety of themes. We have pirates, cowboys, ninjas, robots, bird people, airplane people, the medieval knight look, the space marine look, and I think you get where I'm going with this. The only thing that really defines Spiral Knights is how colorful and animated it is, but even then, we have levels like Apocrea and Ghosts in the Machine. It's hard to make decisive statements about the game's aesthetic.

Speaking of reskins though. Hello, Grey Havens drive through? I would like to order the gremlin stalker's sawblades as a reskin of divine avenger, dread venom striker, or perhaps as a new weapon with diet coke to drink thank you.

get yer entries in!

There's just over a week to get your entries posted! I will note that entries should be a unique new design - upgrades to existing weapons may not be accepted unless the item stands out enough (a good example in game is brandish turning into a nightblade, which has an entirely different look). Recolors of existing weapons, entries deemed to be a joke, etc. may not be eligible for voting.

If you have any questions about your design's eligibility, please either reach out to me with an in-game mail to knight name "Fangel", or message me on Discord (easiest way is to join The Arcade and either ping me, or send me a DM).

We already have a lot of great entries, so I'm excited to see what in all we'll see this year!

votes are counted!

The results are in! A big congratulations to Beroki, Ainogommon, and Neocathero on winning the top three spots, and getting that sweet, sweet energy! The raffle items have been calculated at this time as well, so I'll be getting all the entrants that were eligible your raffle prizes. If you entered and don't see a prize in your mail by the end of today, feel free to let me know and I'll check on my notes to see if I misspelled your name, or if there was an issue with the entry itself.

There's a lot of amazing pieces that were submitted! I hope you all had as much fun with this event as I did looking over the pieces. Here's to an awesome 2020! 🍻
