IDK If someone brought this up BUT being trapped in haven is kinda uhhhhhhhhhhh
suffocating if u will
and when ur low on mist or energy and have nothing to do in arcade but still wanna farm for mats and crowns and wanna take town gremlins wadda do?
with free roaming in open environments you can still do all of that
maybe the SK crew could double the amont of crowns u can get when doing tier quests
and with free roaming outside of haven you can get half of that with out wasting mists or energy
that way your always busy
LIKE I SAID IDK IF SOMEONE BROUGHT THIS UP
FREE ROAMING ENVIRONMENTS WHEN LOW ON MIST OR CE'S
I rather like LeftofWest's idea. Spiral Knights is a cool game, but it's frustrating that it's very difficult to play alongside my friends without paying or scheduling our events far more than should be required of a simple hack-n-slash game.
the free roam idea is great, but heck just running around AND HELPING OTHER for no rewar, [crap] that sounds BAD!
at least have the drops!
You cannot have rewards from levels that carry no Energy penalty. That's a game-breaker, no doubt.
In the meantime, this remains yet another suggestion that keeps players hanging around on the servers when they're contributing nothing to the game, and is unlikely to be implemented.
The entire point of Energy is that you spend it to be able to get drops.
That said, I still find the gameplay itself hella-fun and wouldn't mind forgoing progression just to play with friends.
Maybe, as a free-roam area, for those who dont want to log off, or who want to do some energy-free edventuring with friends (or some in-game dating as is not uncommon) there could be an area that a party of 1-4 knights could go to with no combat at all (and thus no reason to expend energy), just some place for people to enjoy the more scenic side of cradle (as both the industrial and vegetative sides of it are quite gorgeous).
That way people can still play the game some, and talk with friends in-game, and it won't just be a common area (cause there would be parties), but since there is nothing to be gained from going there (other than the enjoyment of it) no energy would be required to access it.
maybe upgrade the mist energy capacity with crowns(except make it very expensive 100k to upgrade once)
some type of simulations for practice: it can generate any monster youve met and killed then gotten to the elevator(no practicing on the jelly king til you beat it) however we could make this cost crowns(low amounts perhaps even making the crown cost=to #of times used or 1k per use) you get no drops from this it could still help with stayin alive... could also be practice for arenas or all boss floors(ex: all of the gloaming wildwoods floors)
whaddaya say, mate?
I just say... REVAMP HAVEN! Say the floors have collapsed in, and now a forest AND *HARMLESS* MONSTERS (that follow you upon interaction) rest in the arcade... (Elevators still there) a
Why not make the free roam area a kind of quest? Examples below:
Climb a moutain path filled with monsters that leads to the "Blessed" Alchemizer. This point would allow you to create items with a extra 2% chance at creating UVs.
Travel through the "Mineral Forest" to lead to the "Deconstructing" Alchemizer. This place would allow you to destroy items to get back the lower grade version and 1/2 of the materials (not energy or crowns) used to create the piece being destroyed (round down)
Silly things that wouldnt break the game, and of course the areas would only give vials & hearts for any mobs killed, cause sometimes its just fun to kill things with friends.
I like the idea of a free area... and i understand the need to keep energy limited, but for someone like myself, who doesn't have access to a credit card (no im not going to go steal my parents' cards) it does limit the enjoyment i can get from the game...
I get on and can play for approx 20 minutes b4 i have to get off for the day due to the capacity of mist energy, and as the others have mentioned, especially early in the game its hard to save up enough to get any decent amount of ce...
I agree with LeftofWest and Loyal2NES about the willingness to have an area that has no progression but doesnt require energy to enter, because im playing the game to have fun and wate time hacking up baddies with my friends... not to grind till i can get the best gear over the course of the 3915695712 days that it would take me to collect it due to my inability to play for extended periods (yes that is obviously a very, very, VERY large exaggeration)
So what im saying is this: as far as i can tell people want a way to get the gameplay without the limitation of energy. I understand that energy is vital to the game as source of income for the developers, part of the lore of the game, and as a gameplay component. I think that there should be an energy free area (possibly an energy free gate) just something that provides the fun hack'n'slash gameplay. It wouldnt need to provide drops or crowns, seeing as that would remove the point of energy, but it would allow the people that just want to play a game with their friends to do so without worrying that they r going to run out of energy b4 their friend gets on.
One other idea i have is if there was an area that you could access using crowns, where you would enter and have to fight several waves of mobs (like the areas on maps that are optional but provide a lot of heat/crowns, but instead of earning heat or crowns, if you fend off all of the waves you are rewarded with a mist energy refill, like the one you get when you first get to haven. This could be limited to one or two uses per day but it just add that much more time for people to play.
All of these are simply suggestions, but i personally believe that they could enhance the game for newer players and players who just want to play for fun (are not as worried about drops etc.) I am only offering these suggestions because i like spiral knights and would like to see it become slightly more versatile, and lessening (but not necessarily removing) the limit on gameplay per day is my only current wish for the game.
thanks for your time and see you guys in game :D
I have to agree with LeftOfWest's suggestion as I was going to recommend something similar to that idea.
Also, to echo Mattpwnz, it would be great to have an area, like a Coliseum mode or something, where you can just fight waves of monsters that don't leave any drops, with maybe the exception of vials, with your friends.
A free area outside of Haven would be nice. It feels kinda... depressing... to be locked in that small town.
But yeah, to keep energy important, the loot from monsters would be very limited (like an occasional crown or two or something).
This way, energy will remain crucial, as one can only progress by doing Clockwork runs.
Maybe we could get some new achievements regarding this new area as well... Well I think it could work.
How about a persistent free roaming environment that costs nothing to enter but the monsters inside are around the difficulty of those found in t3 or higher and drop no loot. The area is fully PvP enabled and can support around the same number of players as a Haven instance. Players run around the area looking for hidden treasure chests in remote locations guarded by minibosses, the treasure chests require a sizable amount of CE to open but may contain rare items.
Well, there could definitely be more things to do. One of my own suggestions have been to implement some surface areas, not just the clockworks and Haven. Some of them could be free to access I guess, but without any considerable pay-offs. I think it'd be cool to even just have some other places to hang out, watching the fish in the seas or strolling in the woods. Perhaps there could even be areas where you can fish or harvest stuff.
Psh, addict's, isnt 10 gates enough per day? Plus you can just play T3 or the royal jelly on CE and make a net gain. Buy 100 CE, doo a jelly and a half, buy 100 CE, do a jelly and a half, and you'll make at least 7k-10k and have some CE spare if you resell basil recipies, so you can play all day and make profit if you already have some money and can go to high enough paying levels.
"can support around the same number of players as a Haven instance."
What crap man, havent you seen all the people teleporting in the 8-man training room?
@DrLequack
Not really everything runs pretty smoothly in the 8-man training rooms for me.
What your suggestion amounts to is a way of continuing to play the game when you've depleted your supply of the currency that makes the game run. Whilst this exact suggestion hasn't come up before to my knowledge, in practice it's similar to the endemic "let's get rid of Energy" threads - it's a way of getting something out of the game for nothing. If you want to fight monsters for free after your daily ME is exhausted, manage your Crown expenditure better, save up, and buy some CE you can hold in reserve if you desperately want to go delving after you've spent all your Mist.
