I decided to throw this in general discussion considering the fact it is directly spiral knights related.
As someone who is still interactive with the game 8years after starting, it would be nice to experience this game while leisurely sitting on my couch.
The gameplay is perfect for a handheld, imo, really the biggest restriction i see with a port is the communication functions amongst the community, but honestly with the touch-screen on switch its really easy to type a fast message.

Also I think it could either re-introduce interest in the game to old players whom have left and also attract a largely new community with the nintendo switch online function.

Just an idea. I know its not practical or would happen, just something i would love to see developed D;

thoughts?! What console would you love to see Spiral Knights on?!?!

Nintendo Port & Android Port

I like the Idea for the game to be ported to Nintendo Switch as it matches the vibe of Nintendo and I am sure with a bit promotion it will go well.
Also I could see it to be ported for android smartphones,I imagine lots of players would like that,so many people asked to have access from their phone to the Auction for example.

All these are good ideas,that will give new players and renew the game but in order that to happen the developers need to invest.
I do not know how much that wouldl cost,I am not programmer but I am imagining it will not easy to cross platform it.
So sadly I do not think it will happen.

A way to work is with funds from another company but last time didnt work good for Spiral Knights but all depends on the deal.
We all see potential to this game still,but it needs money to invest and that has a good risk especially for a game that is old,I dont believe that the developers are willing to take that risk.

I wouldn't count on it.

I wouldn't count on it. Spiral Knights is a Java game, and getting a Java game running on Switch is a non-trivial task. I'm not at liberty to divulge what exactly Nintendo provides to developers for Switch development, but as I see it, possible options are to port the whole game to something like Unity which Nintendo even mentions by name on their developer portal (VERY expensive and time-consuming), develop a separate version of the game just for Switch (also very expensive and time-consuming, probably wouldn't allow for cross-play), or bundling the game along with a Java Runtime Environment into a single executable and figuring out how to get that running on a Switch (less expensive and time-consuming but much more challenging to maintain over time, as bugs are likely to be abundant). The last option requires the least amount of new code to be written, but still requires a lot of research and dev time since you'll likely run into all sorts of nasty bugs as you're dealing with a new environment, but that's standard whenever you're porting something to a new platform.

In any case, it would be a massive undertaking, and given the current state of the game where the majority of changes are new cosmetics, I highly doubt Grey Havens has the manpower to even think about getting it done any time soon.
