Hey people, so I just started playing Spiral Knights, and i want to know why is that Energy takes so long to regenerate.
When i started playing, i had no idea what energy was, i thought it was just MP, or SP like in most MMORPG games, so i paid no attention to it.
I got to Haven, went to the clockworks, and played for about an hour i think, then i couldn't go into the clockworks anymore because i didn't had more energy, i was pretty confused, so i thought, "I need energy to play the game? Okay, no problem i guess" so i asked a player how do i get more energy, and the player responded that it regenerates by itself, and that it takes 24 hours to go back to 100.
I didn't believe it right away, but then i read the wiki which confirmed it, i was pretty disappointed, the energy went down so fast, in like an hour, and i have to wait an entire day to be able to play again?! Absurd!
So then i found out that i can buy Energy with crowns, and real money, but with crowns it's just so expensive, i don't want to work so hard to get money just to waste it to be able to play more! I want to use the crowns to be able to buy better equipment for all that hard work! So i went to see the price of energy with dollars, the 700 (sorry if that's not the right number) and the 1600 deals are alright, but the starter pack is kinda expensive, since that energy will go out in about a month i guess, but then there's the equipments that come with it so i guess it's alright, but hey, i thought this game was Free to Play? Funny thing is that i saw a video on YouTube saying that it's a 100% free to play game, in a sense i guess, but i bet most players get pissed off since it takes such a long time for the energy to come back that they start buying energy, and me too! I don't want to have to wait for an entire day to be able to play just for an hour!
So the first impression that Spiral Knights gave to me is that it lied to me, it's not 100% free to play, you have to buy energy if you want to enjoy the game.
So, all i want to know, isn't there a better alternative? Like, decreasing the amount of time it takes to regenerate energy and add special equipment that can only be bought with real money? I really just want to know, thanks.
Why is that energy takes 24 hours to regenerate? Isn't there a better alternative?
Yeah, i already used the mist tank, only added another hour of gameplay :P
I really like Spiral Knights, it's a type of game i've never seen before, it's a lot of fun, the only thing that completely ruined the experience for me was the energy regeneration rate.
Oh, I heard that the developers of this game said that they are going to fix the energy, in some way, don't know what exactly, is that true?
Firstly, if you think the Crowns to Energy conversion is expensive now, you really have no idea what you're talking about. I don't want to sound hostile, but not too long ago 100 CE used to be over 7000 crowns.
Secondly, using Crowns to buy new equipment, at least beyond the mass-crafted-in-search-of-UVs 2* stuff, is prohibitively expensive in comparison to crafting it, and that's if you use the Auction hall. Do not, under any circumstances, buy 2* and 3* gear from the NPC vendors.
Thirdly, considering the alternative F2P models I've seen, the daily time limit isn't all that restrictive. You can eventually see all of the content on offer (including every single piece of gear) as a F2P player. Paying cash will get you there faster, but doesn't ultimately get you anything a F2P player can't eventually get themselves.
Yeah, it's a pain sometimes, particularly if you're stuck in T1 right now. You can actually run T2 on CE and turn a profit, and it really doesn't take that long to get T2 clearance because there's a truckload of 2* armor, shields and weapons on the AH for way below cost. Even so, I basically only run on ME right now, and the nice thing about SK is it doesn't feel like I'm not getting anywhere unless I play for 4 hours a day, unlike some other MMO's I might mention.
And for the record, your 100 ME takes 22 hours to refill, not 24. You might not think it makes a difference, but still.
"...special equipment that can only be bought with real money"
I hope this never, ever, ever happens in SK. At least beyond cosmetic stuff.
See, this is an economic model we like to call, F2P/P2W. Free to Play, Pay to Win. Personally, I think it's the worst possible model to base a supposedly F2P game on, because basically if you aren't paying, you aren't playing the same game as the people who are.
Why no special equipment? The game is not even PvP so what's the problem?
The game is not even PvP so what's the problem?
Becouse PvP is comming :D
I actually approve, sort of, of the energy thing.
We don't pay for the game. It's funded by people who spend money and you can get any item by playing, on your own time.
I also hope there's no equip you can only buy with money. That's so friggin lame.
In Spiral Knights your worth is proved by your effort and creativity.
What's not to like? I think it's a great game that's simply funding itself.
One hundred energy gone in an hour? My goodness. It always seems to last much, much longer for me. Clicking that friendly little revive button drains your energy, so I rarely click it when there are party members willing to help me back up. As you go lower in the clockworks, you earn more money as well. The series of levels after the clockwork terminal generally pay way more. (It feels like the last level of each tier pays ten times as much as the first!)
I often go in alone. This lets me progress at my own pace and it makes the enemies weaker, though if I die, there's nobody to help me up. It also means that every drop is mine, the materials and even the rare item drop in dungeons all end up in my greedy little spaceman-robot hands. You should look into selling the materials you puck up on the auction house if you haven't already. Some shards sell quite well, as do swordstones and iron gears. If that fails, spend a bit on energy. I threw ten dollars into mine when I started and still haven't used it up. Though, to be fair, I've been playing the market quite heavily and buying CE.
I really dislike the current energy system.
As much as I don't like pay by the month systems.. they at least seem a bit more "honest" if you will. Right now if I want to play more than an hour a day I have two options.
A. Pay for it with CR
B. pay for it with real money.
If I want to use trinkets, extra weapon slots or w/e else.. my options are the exact same.
Now, I wouldn't object to this but, the slots will actually disappear! I feel like that is a total rip off!
Now, if I am not paying with real money, I am having to reinvest a lot of the CR I make into buying CE if I want to play more than roughly 45 mins to an hour each day. (thats about low long it takes me to do a run or two from 1 -8 exploring everything).
The other option? pay real money which I then get to think about every time I look at my "CE".
Every time I do alchemy, I get to think about the fact I just spent real world money to do it.
If I go down a level, I get to think about the fact that I'm spending real world money.
Unlike other games where you just pay a flat monthly rate, I get to sit back and think about how each of my actions is costing real world dinero.
The reason this bothers me? this is a fast paced game and it is designed to be short leveled.
While I am still playing for the moment, I have to honestly say I'm looking for a new game.
If I can find something as fun and fast paced as SK, I will definitely try it.. maybe even switch.
Spiral Knights is an amazing game with a lot of potential.
It just has one major problem.
It forces me to be A. patient or B. responsible.
I really do understand the value of both of those in the real world. I understand that while waiting for (Insert awesome game here from valve) I have to be patient because, they take their time and make awesome games. But, as soon as that game comes out.. my patients are gone.. I'm in the game world, where "patience" is a bad thing. It means waiting for an elevator while a zombie has more time to chew on you.
I play video games to have fun, not to learn valuable life lessons about patience and responsibility.
It just has one major problem.
It forces me to be A. patient or B. responsible.
A major problem.
@Replicant
As I said, anywhere besides video games that is fine.
I can wait 2 years for a great video game to come out. I can handle being responsible in whatever capacity it has ever been required of me.
But, really? in a video game? seriously? I play video games for fun, not to learn life lessons.
If there was ever a time where I was actually glad for the May patch, it would be now.
I dunno about other people, but I'm generally satisfied after emptying my mist tank and am pretty alright to stop until tomorrow. It just makes me hit a natural stopping point, I guess. Or me and my friends tend to play it before some other event, like while we're waiting for other folks to show for D&D, or something like that.
Ehh, I guess I'm just getting older and appreciate a bite-sized game more than younger people would. Whenever I pay for a subscription game, I think "Man, I haven't played at all this month, I kind of feel like I wasted that money." I like this model better because I can pay when I know I'll have time, and not pay a cent when I won't - I have more control over it, essentially.
I kind of know that feeling, Fox - the "man I spent real money on this thing" feeling, I mean. I've felt that sort of guilt with other games, but it just isn't striking me here. (Proportionally, I felt that what I got for what I paid for in other games was much, much less than what I got in SK. It feels meatier, more 'worth it' than what I've seen in other games. But that might again be related to my earlier aversion to subscription games, for time-related reasons.)
Don't forget to mention this game. Here's a hint. "ARCADE". This is where when you insert your money from $1.00-3.00 Have you ever thought about going to the movie theater or a mall then you realize "looks, its a cool shooting game, im gonna pay $1.00 to play alone " 2 mins later. damn i just lost the game or wait it's still continue ok, insert another $1.00 to go on next stage*. Take a note think about this game part of F2P and P2P (if you want to play more then buy real money)
Facts before you open your logical
A) Is it a video game called Arcade machines allow you to pay money to play?
B) Market? Is this part of real life e-comic.
C) Who's trolling the market? Rich kids are fooling around?

Re: Spiral_Fox
I feel your pain.
That is all.
Please keep in mind that this game costs real man hours to build. These are real people with real families that like to do things like eat, own a house, and have recreational time. They're offering it to you for free forever. 7 extra hours of concentrated gameplay costs $2.50 here - yet going to a theater for a movie is about $5 per hour.
Not sure about you, but I live in the United States and we're currently 14 trillion dollars in debt thanks to entitlement programs, government buyouts, and war. If you'd rather not pay a few bucks for this game, go out and do something productive for the greater good of humanity instead.
My 2 cents.
I play Spiral Knights almost daily. Haven't paid a cent. Still plodding along as a 3* punk, haven't gotten to T3 yet. I'm perfectly okay with this; from what I hear, T3 is a death trap compared to T2 anyway, and I'm in no hurry to spend money so I can die and become frustrated.
For maximum profitability without paying a cent, play every day and only use Mist Energy for diving. Use CE only for crafting, and only when you have to. Sell materials, play the CE market for profit, and run the auction house for all its worth. Never pay for energy gates, never activate a robot, and never pay anyone else's elevator tab.
Obviously, this isn't very fun, and essentially embarks on a quest of self-denial.
Well you will spend about 3-7 days getting bored waiting for the regen of mist. But eventually you will reach tier2 and then another week -_-.Then you will be able to fight jelly king,in group party you get about 4-7k crowns with 4 people and 12k solo so you will get easy crystal energy
in group party you get about 4-7k crowns with 4 people and 12k solo
Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong. You're wrong. You're wrong.
You're wroooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong.
Wow,new player, spiral knights feels like a facebook game.A subscription system would be good to the playerbase ffs.
Did you have to bump a five month old thread just to say that? Not to mention, there is a subscription-like service being offered right now, it's called the Elevator Pass.
I have a different idea for energy instead of having it go away. keep it for gates and crafting, things like that, but do not have us use it for elevators because then we can play for a limited time in one day. Honestly, many people would be so much more happy if we could play this game all day instead of waiting until tomorrow for the energy to finally come back.
You can *kinda* play for as long as you want, but you have to grind for it. In one run (about 50-70 mist?), the FSC can cash out about 7k crowns, usually enough for 100 CE. So, using that Ce, you can grind over and over and over and over and over again until you have the desired amount of playtime. Tedious, but it works.
The problem with that is the new players. They cant get a HUGE crown payout as the vetern players. T1 runs don't give a heckuva lot of crowns. However, once they get to T2, grinding the first 2 levels of RJP can make a healthy profit.
omg sum1 nurcrosed tit omg omg alert nere
Sorry, that's a translation of necro
There are multiple guides (Including mine, shameless bump,) on how you can start to build up energy. If you like your experience, you should definitely come back and play again and again =) However, with Mist tanks at the start and 100 energy, you should be able to have a fun time without spending money on CE.
