EDIT: Luqui helped me out, my problem was that I was using default-java instead of java-8-openjdk-amd64. Thanks man!

Hi! I've been trying (rather unsuccessfully) to install Spiral Knights on an Ubuntu System.

I've installed the latest edition of java, installed the launcher succesfully multiple times though terminal, and executed multiple forms, including
- the getdown-pro.jar
- The Spiral Knights.desktop file, which launches the extensionless spiral file (which as far as I can tell, just runs getdown-pro.jar)
- the extensionless spiral file

Something DOES happen when I use execute these files, but the launcher dosen't open. If I try to execute multiple times, sometimes a dummy form of the launcher opens stating I have multiple launchers open, but going into system monitor shows that that dummy launcher is the only launcher open.

Sometimes when I have a fresh install, the first time using the launcher will boot up the Spiral Knights Installer for a few seconds before it crashes itself out. Afterwards I'm stuck in the same situation as above.

Can anybody with more technical proficiency help me out? I'm a bit stuck.

I've tried installing as both a super user and as not.

Ok, so adding...

... so adding a blank version.txt file in the folder has seemed to fix something, but I'm right back to a launcher that won't really run.

Now, it could be three things I think

EITHER: Java isn't actually running on my system (which I have no idea how to troubleshoot on ubuntu), one of the files (mostly likely digest.txt, or maybe getdown.txt) is corrupted FROM SK (since I haven't modified and throughout multiple fresh reinstalls, this has been a persistent issue), or it's something else entirely/.

Xryuko , thank you! Indeed, that was the issue!

For others:
If you have 18.04, the solution should be the same:
1. Instal Java 8: "java-8-openjdk-amd64"
2. Change the default Java version:

sudo update-alternatives --config java

There you just need to select "java-8-openjdk-amd64" with the number.
