Okay, I now have a Avenger (YES!), Swiftstriker Buckler, Super Blaster, and full Dusker. I recently obtained a Ash tail cap recipe (going to craft it) and was wondering what shield i should get to progress into tier 3?
in terms of being the cheapest, i have a great defender right now that i could upgrade to a mighty defender (just to get into tier 3). what shield should i get? should i start over and go up the owlite line, or try the new bristling buckler for its damage bonus as im a heavy sword user? any cheap alternatives? is it worth starting a new shield line or just upgrade my great defender cause its so cheap?

Congrats on getting your avenger.
Ok to start things off I highly recommend you switch to the owlite shield series, although the defender series is cheap and will get you into tier 3 faster it will not payoff in the long run because in tier 3 there is way more elemental damage and not as much piercing, and it will save your butt a lot more than aegis will. The bristling buckler is a great shield for tier 2 but not tier 3 because in t3 there are a lot of piercing causing monster such as wolver/slimes etc and would be a great secondary shield in addition to grey owlite and swifstrike.
going off topic a little once you get the hang of T3 swiftstrike is also a great shield to use due to inreased attack speed, and can wreak havoc on a lot of t3 monsters and complements your avenger.
