The Decline of Players

Everyone who plays with any regularity knows that the player base took a sharp decline around the beginning of January, and while the game is still fun, it is less so with so many fewer players. More players means a better market for energy, more people to play with, a more interesting haven, and better gates to explore.

I think much of it has do do with the tier system driving away a lot of veterans and even though it was revised to a degree, a good number never came back. There also haven't really been any new shiny updates for people to get excited about, shields got a graphics overhaul, but that's about it.

Additionally, I know when it was changed it was supposed to improve loot drops, but ever since then it seems like treasure boxes have been worse than ever, they hardly ever drop mats anymore and I've not seen a single equipment drop since the change. It also seems like there's less crowns dropped at any given depth than there used to be. What are other people's opinions on why the population has so drastically diminished?

Personally, I think it's the crappy crafting system that requires so much energy. For the past week, all I do is login for one minute, craft ONE item, and that takes up all my energy for the day.

I don't even get to play the game. I actually spent more time on facebook games then this game.

In b4 some high tier guys with access to tier 3+ dungeons will make fun of lower tier guys and brag about how easy it is to get crowns to buy energy. Not everyone is up to tier 3+ dungeons and the game forces you to create a full set of 4 star armor before you can even get access to some of these dungeons.

Been a while since one of these comments.

It's kinda the point though... to get you addicted by feeding you scraps. Then once your patience beaks, you start making a payment or two. Starting at 75¢ it's hard to resist. There's still the occasional person who's entirely made it through the system without shelling out a single penny, kudos to them.

The game is incomplete still and we are testers... not everyone who gets invited has the patience for a game in progress. There also tends to be drops in player count when it's been a few weeks since a major content update. Next time there's a huge update or a lottery watch players show up from the woodwork.

*cringe* Facebook games... One of the many reasons I disabled the Application Platform on that site. Let me lurk in peace, no I don't want a sheep!

I've played other games with a system like that. Dungeon Fighter Online. They called it the fatigue system. I honestly think that was a lot better then the energy system. The energy system is just going to drive most non paying players away and keep mostly the paying ones. I rather pay a one time 50 dollar fee for unlimited energy then to pay 75 cent for 100 more energy.

Ah well, I guess I'm move to guild wars 2 when it comes out.

That's about when I quit. I may start playing again though but not as much as I used to. I just got burned out. It just felt like I had played every map like 100 times. It probably doesn't help that the majority of the levels just aren't very interesting. This game could really use a puzzle element added to the levels and as it stands the game seems to rely heavily on monsters for the fun factor and they aren't too horribly interesting either. I mean they get the job done but it's not enough to make me want to play a lot. The maps themselves need an overhaul with more puzzle elements.

I can't comment for anyone

I can't comment for anyone else, but for me ...

First, I was away from computer games at the end of december.
Second, when I came back in january, I got a nasty surprise: My YPP account had been compromised, and the message was something like "You have been banned from our games. Reason: Your account has been compromised".

After talking with the support staff, and getting the account unlocked, they explained that it's not actually meant to ban you from all of Three Rings' games, but that was the message.

Then, it's been another two weeks. Primarily because I remember what the lag is like on my mac, and I'm not sure I want to try that again.

But I will. As soon as I have a two hour block of time to play.

And that's an issue. I can play YPP solo if I have a 20-30 minute block. But here? If I timeout in the middle of a dungeon run, then all the energy I spent in that dungeon run is wasted.

*THAT* is the biggest thing that stops me from starting. The whole "No save point, start your game from the start each time" factor.

Yeah, the inability to

Yeah, the inability to save/logout at any point is kind of a kicker. I've been playing with a couple friends, one of which had a very bad internet connection for awhile, and it was pretty unfair for him to disconnect for a few minutes and end up being logged out or killed (which would kick him out of he was solo and didn't have the energy for a revive).

It'd be really nice if you could just... log in on the last floor you were on, or be able to rejoin your friends without wasting extra energy, or something. I mean, I know games like Guild Wars don't do this, but Guild Wars doesn't keep you on a tight leash like energy does.

Depends on when you are playing... People are never on at like 2:30pm-6pm EST so I have to wait till the nighttime to play with friends :O
