I visited from time to time to see how discussions have been going, but there seems hardly any discussions going on in this part of SK's forums, even off-topic, that's apparently quite more inactive than ever.

People come to the forums to take stress off from daily life routines, get to chatting on what strategies are effective, so on and so on, and even talk a bit about off-topic stuff. While I really enjoy the forums, there's still needs a bit more activity to keep the topics going.

Anyone have any topics to keep it going? I'm sure there's some that are willing.

You have to get with the times

no one really uses forums to talk to each other now a days. It's all about social media and discord communities if you want to connected with people who play similar games like you. I know it may suck if you really don't enjoy those forms of communication but it's the only real option you have if you want to get to a some what active group of people you can talk to.

About that...

I have been keeping a close eye on what goes on, and for many that try to get with the times, people can overlook so much.

I'm not the only one who doesn't enjoy these kind of ways, so to speak. There are people out there that still use forums, not just because they don't like to use social media because of whatever heavy mental burdens they may end up with, but because they're, in my fine opinion, a mere more safe haven to discuss topics, not to mention on-topic matters relating to games, game development, and so on.

Examples...

VGMaps' Forums - https://www.vgmaps.com/forums/

Pixel Joint Forums - https://pixeljoint.com/forum/

TIGSource Forums - https://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=np3k4d1l8o03eosde2jp3eg... (there's still game development discussions there.)

Shmups' Forums - https://shmups.system11.org/

MMO Central Forums - https://www.mmocentralforums.com/

A recent post in tilearrow's site gives some concerns about what Discord's recent plans are, and, believe me, user security and discretion are becoming more and more less of Discord's concerns... (link here - https://tildearrow.org/?p=post&month=5&year=2023&item=discord)

Since that, some more people are starting to drive away from there in droves, not huge droves, but, could slowly be there.

Point is, when such certain social media programs can get too dangerous one day, say, for instance, Discord(which is, in fact, becoming more and more a literal representation of chaos, in a way), people will leave there and seek other forms of communication elsewhere, even if it means using and making forums again. Just a matter of being safe than sorry when it comes to these matters. Long-term thinking and foresight helps.

The more people stay to what still works best in basic means of communicating online, the better their lives can be. Sometimes, getting with the times can't be all pleasant conveniences. Dangerous, hidden caveats can come, too, even when we least expect them.

We should all try to make our efforts into making far better alternatives to such communicating means, even with more suitable, less dangerous security methods to keep our online identities safer than people think.

Not saying this to be too tough, but to be a bit more realistic about such matters.

It's a time investment thing

Nowadays forums are kind of not the commonly accepted format of internet discussion. So you get a lot of people that grew up with social media where the conversation happens a lot faster and feedback is pretty much instant and they feel forums are clunky and hard to use because it's so different from their own experiences.

However, having a searchable database of conversation is very useful for game communities in specific because it's nearly impossible to search say a twitter account or discord channel for previous issues in a game!

Yeah, that "investment" is kinda waning fast, now.

With such recent heightened toxicity going on through social media in so many ways(don't ask me how or why, please.), it is far becoming less comforting to stay there. People having seen that have been leaving faster than joining, because its not truly safe as many thought. Too many distractions to gather unwanted attention nowadays.

Despite your perspective, there are still people doing forums to maintain the far more better means of communication, some people maybe even rejoining them more to keep their conversations open. They're even still doing work to not just keep them running, but keep improving them to make them less troubling. Don't be surprised when such a day comes that social media is no longer viable to use anymore, especially with recent situations going on now, concerning accessibility and functionality to people.

I feel we're just better off with less, unnecessary mental weight on us, that is to say, getting short, sweet, and to the point in keeping good conversations with better, simpler methods, especially where and when we can make our own alternatives that deliver better communication.

Better safe than sorry in that matter, I say.
