Belated happy birthday SK
I have fond memories of these days 15 years ago -- after many years of nurturing it was at last clear that we had been on the right track :) Making a new game is terrifying in that you are never sure until you can see people (who aren't your colleagues or friends) playing that it's going to work.
As I used to be fond of saying, you can't bake a pie by taking it out of the oven a lot and 'testing it'. You have to leave it in the oven and keep the door closed until it's ready. Making a game is a lot like making pie. Mmmm, pie.
