So after rummaging around the Auction House a little, there is a lot of money to be made, so my question is this.

Is it worth farming recipes and their ingredients, creating the items than reselling them on the market?

not quite sure what you are

not quite sure what you are asking specifically, but at later tiers, when you buy 4* and 5* recipes, stuff which you -cannot- just make and resell on the Auction House, the recipes can be rather profitable, some 5* recipes sometimes fetching almost 2x what you bought it for (from basil).

What I mean is, you get the ingredients for a recipe from the Auction House, create the item in question and then sell it onto the market again.

Is it profitable is the question.

well ... err... kinda. if you

well ... err... kinda. if you get a -decent- (or better) unique variant on it, then yes. but you can hardly rely on that. plus crafting items just to resell is kinda pointless considering the max * rank you can resell is 3*... not many things worth selling even that are 3* or lower, and needed. plus everything that IS needed is kinda really.. over populating the AH already. Hazebombs, crappy blasters, wolver sets etc.
From experience, i havent been able to make a good profit with it - course ive always sucked with game economies. one thing ive noticed with Spiral Knights is that things can change in popularity very fast. i used to resell faust/avenger recipes en masse a fair while ago, then one day no one needed anymore, almost had to sell at a loss, which was troubling at best. Just be sure what youre doing will be profitable or useful.

You will generally lose money

You will generally lose money from crafting items then selling them on the AH if you use CE. If you use ME, you'll make money, but the money you make will still be less than if you had run dungeons with that ME.

The reason that people craft is primarily to get UVs on items; if you're extremely lucky it can be profitable. Just a recent example: a calibur with Very High CTR sold for something like 50,000 CE.

Seems to me the best thing to

Seems to me the best thing to do is craft items you want.

I noticed an item on market for 60k starting bid 120k "buy now".

After checking the item it would be cheaper to just buy 400CE + items needed to craft it than to out right buy the item.

As far as reselling, there doesn't seem to be a way to actually turn around and resell it though.. partly because one of the items needed to craft it would have to be bound to you and level 5.

Hmmm... So, once I get over

Hmmm... So, once I get over my obsession of getting complete recipe sets (including weapons and whatnot), if I run through the Clockworks, buy recipes, I can resell them for a profit on the AH?

I realise that mats sell REALLY quick (I put two Swordstones on the AH for 300 buyout and three seconds later they sold.), so I know I can get a profit off of those when I'm not planning on using them to craft.

*some* mats sell really

*some* mats sell really well/fast and *some*recipes too.
But you can make more profit on some low stars mats/recipes than on higher stars (e.g. swordstones sell better than brute core, horned owlite recipe better than faust recipe)

Certain materials sell really

Certain materials sell really well. Swordstones are one of them, as well as blue and green shards because they are all part of upgrading the cobalt/calibur lines that a huge portion of the players use.

300 buyout is um...excessively low. You could have doubled it and they would have gone just as fast.
