It would be a huge time saver when creating detailed or large maps if we could mirror a selected/copied area with a simple keyboard shortcut or button. I often build one side first, and being able to mirror it would save a lot of time by avoiding the need to recreate the same thing twice.
Feature Request: Mirror Tool for Selected Areas
Have you tried to select the region you want to mirror, copy/paste that section so you now have a second one where you want it, and then use the move tool to reposition it? When repositioning it, I can flip it around using the scroll wheel. I've found it helpful to paste the new section off in the distance so I'm not overlapping things before I move it into position.
Does the above work for you, and if not what is being lost when you try to move it?
Note: The editor doesn't really make it clear what you have selected, so it's not always obvious that you can use the move tool on something after selecting it.
The method described by Cronus is valid for simpler maps, but it gets trickier with big complex works.
Absolute majority of SK assets are meant to be rotated only a certain way (rotation value = 0). If one rotates a huge portion of the map, that means still painstakingly rotating the assets back. Examples include: clockworks catwalks, low walls, high walls and blocks.
You can't region-select all of them and have them rotated in place (I think - maybe there is such a feature which I've been comically missing for 2 years of using the Scene Editor).
I think this is common knowledge, but I'll mention it just in case: top and bottom parts of any arena (especially huge 5-point one like Stadium) are not symmetrical. If one tries to copy and then rotate the half, its bottom becomes top and the top becomes bottom. Granted, they can then be separated and placed accordingly, but the pathways still need to be restructured and assets re-rotated. It's still *a lot* of busywork.
The theoretical mirror tool in question would preserve the rotation values of copied assets and then shift each tile & prop's X or Y coordinates. Really, we only need to mirror maps horizontally, since that's the Lockdown standard.
This way we wouldn't have to copypaste chunks of the first half of LD map and adjust them. We could just region-select the first half and mirror it with a tool.
OK I see what you're saying, thanks for the extra information. I'm not sure if that feature is possible, but will pass it on. One issue might be that many items are really only meant to be seen from one direction. I (someone who does NOT know exactly how it works) would imagine that moving it on one axis would work, but I've been surprised by many issues that seemingly simple changes can bring about.
Another, maybe easier way to implement a mirror function is how it was done in Robocraft and Procelio games (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBWxlmA1TAQ)
Basically: allow players to select a Y line (or have some default unchangeable Y line) which tells the game to place tiles and/or props on each side of it. For lockdown games I believe just tiles will be enough - props are usually placed asymmetrically.
Mirror tool would save a lot of time.
