Firstly:
I wanted to express my gratitude towards the addition of the Coliseum Crucible. The ability to create, upload and play levels for Spiral Knights is genuinely a dream come true for me. And I appreciate Grey Havens giving players the creative tools to do so.
Secondly:
I'm aware that the Crucible is still in the process of being developed. Things will be missing. Things will be broken at times. Likewise, the crucible is receiving updates pretty frequently. As one of the GMs put it, we're taking 'baby steps' towards a more complete level editor.
But the way the Editor is being handled feels very limiting in a few ways that makes hard to justify spending hours upon hours assembling a map. There is a laundry list of missing props, skyboxes, tiles, dynamic blocks, ect... which we don't currently have access to.
Let's start with the most recent (and most egregious) example. The addition of Blast Network to the editor. With the selection of props we have at our disposal, were unable to even mimic a proper BN arena. We're missing crucial map making elements, such as:
- Skybox and Background Color props. (peaceables that effect the background)
- A whole set of wall plates, known as Terrace Plate Guards.
- Bleachers
- Monster spectators
- And a Sound Prop, which plays audio of the crowd.
Most of these can be found within (Prop > PvP)
We literally have no option but to upload and test our maps with an empty, black background.
A simple (and extremely convenient) fix would be to add some sort of "template" into the crucible. Basically, take an existing Blast Network map, remove the entire middle arena (the actual playing area) then insert that into the crucible editor as an "example" level, where players will then build their blast network map within the empty space.
I now present a list of items that are used throughout other PvP maps which we don't have in the Crucible Editor. (I had to dig through all the Lockdown maps to assemble this list, so please pretty please can we at least have these objects?)
I want to reiterate, ALL of the following items appear within existing Lockdown maps.
GLOBALS
- Scarlet Fortress Skybox
(castle_base) -
Firestorm Citadel Skybox
(castle_firestorm) -
Gradient Skybox
(found in low_detail) -
Ironclaw Munitions Factory skybox
(clockwork_tunnels/model)
TILES
- The Haven tileset
(Tile > Haven)We're only given a couple pieces of the Haven tileset, despite it being present in the following maps: Mines, Gardens, Ruins and Old Town (which is made up entirely of the Haven Tileset)
- Blast Network Spikes
(Tile > Traps and Hazards > Floor > PvP > Blast Network > Spike)A special set of spikes that deal no damage, but instead inflict stun
PLACEABLES
- Rocket Blocks & groundfog
These are seen as Model Testers, which I don't anticipate being added to the crucible -
Walkable Quads

Bones
(Prop > General > Undead)
There are many -
Sarcophagus
(Prop > Graveyard) -
Rubble Brick (graveyard)
(Prop > Graveyard > Rubble)
In case you've missed it, we're lacking just about every graveyard prop.
Lastly, this is a list of additional objects that don't necessarily appear in other PvP maps, but would greatly assist creators when building their levels. More notably, These are Items that appear within certain regions in the game, in the tilesets we have access to in the crucible.
- Brambles
(Dynamic > Hazards > Bramble thicket) -
Breakable Braziers
(Dynamic > Breakable Objects > Castle) -

Arena King banners are there too -
Spiderweb
(Prop > General) -
Fake Tiles
(Environment > Fake Tiles)
Having access to fake tiles would be HUGE for level builders
If you've made it this far, thank you for reading. I spent a lot of time making this as organized as I could. I would like to end off this lengthy post by highlighting that Shield Bashing still doesn't work properly in Super Brawl.
