In the game's Terms of Service §6.13 it's stated that "scripting or macroing software" is not allowed. Though we obviously want to keep restrictions like this in place so we don't literally allow botting and stuff, the thread at https://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/125260 reminded me that Steam's built-in controller software can support features like TURBO buttons (automatically repeating a pressing and/or releasing input each frame) as well as some other features that could even act like macros in some cases. I'm not fully aware of just how far Steam Input can go in terms of being like macroing software, but I do see that you can delay extra inputs bound to a single button which at least means that Steam Input can provide players with macros.

Even that aside, I've purchased keyboards from big brands like Razor or Logitech which actually come outright BUNDLED with macroing software. Such things are becoming increasingly popular and I have a feeling many might try and use it while unaware that such things are against TOS. Not saying external software like those should be allowed, but if we keep them banned maybe put some reminders like that in the controls menu?

Really I just think some updating to that section would be nice. It's gonna be real hard to actually enforce these rules especially against people who are using a highly customized Steam Input setup. Personally, I'd argue that macros - or at the very least those provided via Steam Input - should be allowed. It'd be too sisyphian to enforce when a vast majority of your players access the game through Steam. Scripting I'm obviously on board with keeping banned though.

addendum

I forgot to bring this up but I am aware that macros can potentially be used to make rudimentary bots. I know of a couple missions which can be farmed slowly but mostly idly with a somewhat short macro. My point is that things like Steam Input are becoming so widespread and provide close to if not the same tools as macro software nowadays. Obviously I don't think we should allow botting; I stated as much in the second sentence of my initial post. I just think that with the introduction of Steam Input, some exceptions may need to be put in place to further define the line between "cheating" and "accessibility".
