Krogmo Coin Payouts

The recent update has given us an answer to why we couldn't obtain Krogmo Coins from certain PvP lobbies, and the outcome is fairly disappointing (and a bit ugly). Instead of restoring Krogmo Coins as a participation reward for playing in any official coliseum match, it's now been removed from 1v1 Super Brawl, and likely also from 2v2 lockdown, if that pattern is to be the case.

This is rather disappointing. PVP gamemodes are not for everyone, and grinding out Krogmo Coins is a pretty big pain. With an influx of new and returning players, there's bound to be folks interested in joining for their first match.

In most gamemodes, a new player will load in, get stomped by a +12 health max UV'd player with 30-60 less ping than them, get frustrated, and never pick up that mode again. This even happens in blast network, where you'll be having fun being terrible with others and then one good player shows up and destroys the lobby.

This is where the smaller lobby options provided a sort of respite for krogmo coin farmers. Instead of having to fight an uphill battle constantly, you could queue up with a friend and whack each other for some quick fun. Everyone wins and you can work towards a recipe you've been eyeballing.

There definitely are some potential exploits - if you have an alt, you can queue up and have the alt quit after you hit them 10 times, reducing the timer per coin significantly. That being said, nothing really can stop you from doing this in blast network with 3 alts - it's 2x the entry fee, but that's hardly a problem for someone who's set up 3 alts to farm with

If anything, we need to re-evaluate Krogmo Coin payouts. Instead of tying them to certain modes, have them tied to party size.

For example, in 1v1 super brawl, pay out a single coin. In blast network, pay out 2 for minimum party size, and 4 for maximum.

At a rate of 1 coin per 2 players, we would be incentivized to make larger lobbies without punishing those who would rather play in smaller lobbies. This also opens the door for new PvP games, like a shield bump arena or asymmetrical team fight where lobby sizes can be larger or smaller than current main modes.

Lastly, somewhat unrelated, can we bring back Krogmo Coin exchanges for Winterfest? I swear they weren't there last year and one of the big draws of Winterfest was that you could farm the rewards year round if you wanted. It made the horrible grind of Save Winterfest not as big of a problem if you just hopped in a coliseum match every so often. Just a reminder that it takes an average of 16 hours of pure grinding to get a Winterfest scarf through wish tokens.

would like to add that it would be good to pay out equal amount of krogmo coins to everyone in the lobby alongside that
it would be a lot less frustrating despite the competition in the lobby since everyone wins in the end in regards to krogmo coin payout
winner would still get the crown rewards effectively paying back the entry fee so theres still some incentive for winning

could maybe even give players a significantly lot more crown payouts based on their placement in the match, effectively making it sort of a crown farm for anyone winning consistently (though make it be based on the amount of party size like mentioned here, with more crowns being paid the more players are in the lobby)

energy bonus as well could add one or a couple coins of payout to everyone in the lobby which would also be an incentive for everyone to make use of it. for this one particularly you could have it other way around where with less players you'd have more coin payouts, so there would still be some point to filling it out entirely between one or two people, at a cost of more energy per person

the 1v1 thing could just been somewhat fixed by only rewarding krogmo coins on a fully completed match and canceling out the match entirely on quit-out. 2v2 similar thing, at the current state where we are if players want to farm coins with alts, might as well let them. only thing that could have it fixed per se is giving people more incentive to play the modes in the first place, so adding something new in general whether its to the modes or new items in the shop can help that, like examples mentioned above (e.g. significant increase in crown rewards would be a big one imo, like mentioned above)

lastly imo frankly UVs should not be a thing in lockdown, at least in its current state. we should have fixed health trinket loadouts and give classes according stat adjustments to make up for loss of UVs. that way everyone is on an equal level playing field and the only entry level is having appropriate gear. hell if we are taking that more literally, the gamemode should just be untiered as its regular mode and have T1 or T2 scaling for all existing items in the game, so newer players could immediately get into it and obtain anything locked behind krogmo coin rewards

Setting aside the mess that UVs intentionally are, the entire reward structure of the Coliseum is antiquated and vestigial of its time when it was bread and circuses for people dry on Mist Energy back when it was first introduced. Now there's no reason there's an entry fee, for such insane token costs, or for hidden energy-gated bribe rewards.

Also...

Let's not forget they didn't say anything about removing the coin rewards until people mentioned it being a bug. Grey Havens, if you see this, please for the love of Cradle - do not do this ghost update crap and just be honest with us

Aside from that, I do think this is a bandaid, not a solution to the PvP-locked items. Give us different ways to get the items - Mod Calibrators are from the prize wheel which isn't exactly perfect but at least we can get those items besides PvP.

deliberately annoying grind

The worst of it is offers gear recipes as exclusive rewards, for a number of good weapons, too. And they're expensive, so even if you enjoy the PvP, it's a lot of time grinding tokens. Of course, you can alleviate this grind by dumping energy into boosters and bribes...

No wonder players have devised strategies to game the system for the maximum number of tokens in minimal time.

@Promethiean

Seeing how the reactions to the Slime Casino changes were handled, I don't think they have any intention of stopping with unlisted changes and stealth patches lol
