Danger Missions should reward shadow keys

It'd work a little something like this:

  • Beat a danger mission, get a Shadow Shard
  • This is a one-time reward per player per cycle. You can't simply repeat the same danger mission to get another one.
  • Shadow Shards expire after let's say thirty days
  • These are tradeable
  • An alchemy machine thing at T3 basil can craft a shadow key out of four shards. A full party can beat a single danger mission and go shadow lair immediately
  • Crafted shadow keys last let's say 7 days
  • Shadow Lairs given a little something extra to be worthwhile. I don't know, maybe UV tickets or whatever the current lootbox is.

There you go, regular incentive to play Spiral Knights.

Shadow Lairs are cool and don't really reward much (except Merc Demo and Snarby Coat). I wish I didn't have to take out a mortgage to play one.

I really like this idea, might adjust a few things you listed, but having a way to earn a shadow key for free would encourage players to do SLs more often. I'm not sure what the philosophy they have behind having shadow keys be locked behind energy or chance from a box, but I do know this paywall discourages lots of players from running them which is unfortunate because SLs are super fun and challenging.

I know a lot of people will say to just make SLs free but I think I'd rather go this route of having it be a earnable reward instead as it not only makes it free but also incentivizes people to run prestige missions as well. And if people do want to run them more often then they can buy it.

This is just my idea i want to add on too but at-least adding some form of box that gives extra general rewards like crowns, crystals maybe rarely sparks a orb or ticket (similar to forge boxes but you aren't gambling 4000 punch guns for a chance) along side it as mission rewards wouldn't be too bad. And yeah with Jayzios point, SL's becoming free would just push away more player interaction in gathering groups, especially once you reach the stage you can effectively play SL's on your own and frankly giving prestige missions more importance since they as of right now, have zero value than the daily 50 shinings run with your very small yet occasional chance of getting eternals or other cool loot.

Yes! but not just that

I really love the idea, but I also think danger missions should overall reward more raw cash, not everyone may want a shadow key, and I can already feel people adding those shards to the already predatory economy of the game.

Still a good idea, especially if they were to be bound upon acquisition (so not tradeable...), or unable to be sold!
