just tried the 2 star variant out on the preview server and its awesome.
can't wait to grind this out on the live game in the future :D
The spike storm event doesn't just give an alternative pathway to Mixmaster/Orbitgun-style handguns. It also gives an alternative pathway to Radiant Fire Crystals. In this way it addresses two of the biggest complaints about the game.
Also, the spikes are transferable between knights. Also, they promote play in the Arcade and play in shallow strata. Wow, this event really alters the game's incentives, and in a good way.
Of course, we can argue over the quantitative details --- the 3500 large spikes required for the Mandolin, the 15:1 ratio of spikes to Radiants, etc. But this update really shows that Grey Havens can listen to player complaints. Thanks, Grey Havens!
