Overall just a bad event release

Lots of lag and latency issues with client crashes and Ping reaching into the hundreds.

Numerous bugs such as spikes falling outside of player reach, Retrodes not having a chance to spawn spikes, odd levels being given the Spike storm effect (Shrine of Slumber? why? it's a slime level), other levels weirdly not receiving it (odd that Deconstruction zones are Spiked but not Gremlin Grounds), some respawners like Totems in danger rooms allowing for infinite spikes due to monster respawns via skull rebirth (at least you got the respawn pads done right).

Not to mention various other balance issues such as monster speed not capping at a workable limit, spikes giving priority to monsters over player pickup, some spikes spawning directly on a monster not giving the player time to try to snatch it.

----

And all of this half baked event for a Normal damage gun as a 10 year late apology for putting exclusive content in prize boxes.

Just one gun.... no sword, no bomb, no armor, no shield, no sprite reskin.... just one gun....

----

And honestly all of this could have been avoided if you really ACTUALLY did good testing... instead you just opened a private server for the people who spent money on the game... and granted, I understand, they're likely your most dedicated players.

But any information you get from them is going to be very VERY skewed towards the experience of endgame players who dump tons of cash into the game for hyper-optimized gear. You yourself as devs are also unreliable as testers, no offense, but you need some way to get the opinions of the average casual players.

Next time you open the test server for stuff like this you need to restrict your testers. Limit their armor, weapons, etc. You want to put your testers in the shoes of various lower ranked players from Champion to Recruit... If you ship an event that's a tough challenge for a Vanguard ranked whale, then you need to make sure it's still fair for the casual players who are still working their way up.

On a positive note, I do like

On a positive note, I do like that there's something to do in the Clockworks, and that there seems to (finally) be some initiative to make some of the exclusive box only weapons a smidge less exclusive.

The spikes do mix up how you have to play and it gives you an alternate way to earn Fire Crystals.

Plus there's even more reason to go do Danger Rooms now since it can be a nice step to get more Spikes.

@Holy-Nightmare: The experiences I've had in the few Danger Rooms I've tried have convinced me to stay far away from them in spike levels. :P

I have been enjoying having an excuse to enter danger rooms and get spikes as a reward. Honestly, despite what I said early on about the test server restriction, and despite other positive things I've said, I definitely agree with opening up testing more thoroughly next time and maybe disabling free-access to all gear unless it's important for testing.

Leaving everything available but only to paying players kinda gives veteran players a leg up on devising strategies before the casual players get to see it and that can skew the availability of things to players who didn't get that chance, and it might bite us in the future. It's probably not a huge edge but it's there - if you start testing bosses, though...

I want to take this whole event as a first step and not level too many heavy accusations about shortsightedness but Holy is right regardless - this was balanced against experienced players and sort of quickly. Balancing new content against new players will be healthier for a future that assumes new player intake after a relaunch. I still *like* the event, but I'm deep enough in the game now that I can't begin to speculate on how it feels for a new arrival...

Beyond just learning about how to counter the new content first, the paying players on the test server are more than likely all Vanguard rank or higher with UVd gear and Black Kat and Chaos sets

If a fight is fair or tough enough to be fun for a player with a 30% damage boost and either CTR boosts or MSI Med, Very High, possibly max with some Trinkets... do you really think that it's going to be fun for the casual and newer players you want to cement into your community?

If I was a new player, with Medium damage boosts at best, and a smaller selection of baseline power gear, I would honestly be having an even more horrible time than I am now, to the point where I'd honestly probably try to avoid playing the event.

And that's sort of the difference between Spike and other events....

Torto has regular fiends dropping glyphs so no problem, but you aren't forced to fight the Prestige mission Tortodrone
Apocrea is it's own Prestige mission
Black Kat has a Prestige and the odds of finding a wild BK are just 1 out of 100 so there's a small chance one shows, but it's never overwhelming
Winterfest has it's own Prestige missions and the Clockworks have opt in battles with Dark Harvest being the same
Caketrastrophe, is again another one with opt in fights...

If you don't want to play this event you're basically dealing with a long list of clockworks levels you can't play
