Hello All
A player by the name of [retracted] offered to craft a Drake Scale Mail for me for an extra 100 cr. I gave him 10 red shards, 3 beast scales, 2 critter carapaces, 1 drake scale, 1100 cr, and 200 ce.
He took them and left.
I'm not a completely new player but I have no idea on what I should do to best report this player. I'm fairly certain that the in-game report system (which I did do) is mostly disregarded because of the sheer number of reports they must get. I don't care about the materials, those I can get again (it is just a game after all, and a free one at that), but what is more important is stopping this player from scamming anyone else.

For new recruits actually looking at this topic: If someone offers to craft for you makes sure that he is RECOMMENDED by at least one other person, or you may be at the risk of being scammed.
Thank you for your time and I hope this scammer is caught!

In-game name: Zhouball
Steam Name: Zhouball

Wow. Who... Who really takes

Wow. Who... Who really takes those "I'll craft this item for you if you give me the materials and energy" offers seriously? It's just... Why? It's a giant red flag. Hell, with the total amount of money you gave him, you could have bought a pre-made one at the Auction House.

Zhouball, please do report

Zhouball, please do report scammers in-game.

In-game reports are not disregarded, not even a little, not even when there are a whole lot of reports to plow through. Each report is reviewed to see if a Terms of Service violation occurred, and if it did, then the appropriate penalties are applied. It is very important, though, that you report Terms of Service violations right away when they happen, so that the relevant logs are attached for the GMs to view. The GMs have their eyes on the in-game report queue, so that's where you want your report to be, as opposed to the forums.

Thanks!

@Shockjedi didn't know that,

@Shockjedi didn't know that, thx for fixing.

I've done deals like that b4 several times without incident, so I was unsuspecting. But yeah, you are both right. It was super dumb of me to do that. I still want him reported though, because as far as I'm concerned, it still counts as scamming and it still is against game rules.

@Zhouball The community here

@Zhouball

The community here is usually very nice from the short amount of time I've been here to see it. I'm really sorry this happened to you.

I do have an abundance of materials that I may never actually come to sell or use. Friend me in game and I'll refund what was taken from you. IGN is same as the forum.

Can't help much on the crowns or energy. I can maybe do some runs with you, however.

It's fine. I really don't

It's fine.
I really don't care about the materials, as it is a game, and I can just get them again.
What I DO care about is making sure that (retracted) is banned so he can't scam anyone else. The community is probably more important than a few crowns.

"Scamming is stealing from

"Scamming is stealing from another knight through misrepresentation - examples would be stating that an item can make you invincible, impersonating an administrator or tricking another knight into giving out items or account information." - Spiral Knights Wiki

He told me he would craft for me. That's misrepresentation and therefore scamming.

I make that offer all the

I make that offer all the time to people. Give me the cr, CE, and mats and I'll craft items for you at no profit. I'll also craft the item before receiving the mats and stuff if the person isn't comfortable giving the stuff up front. Then again I try to keep a reputation of being trustworthy.

What he did is scamming, and you can report him for that. Type "/complain [name]" if that happens again. Sorry you happened to find one of the arse-monkeys of the community. Most of the people in it are pretty cool, but you do get people that are complete turds.

Word of advice when dealing with crafters. Inspect them, most people in 5* (most, not all) are pretty good about not scamming others. If for no other reason then they don't want to lose all the gear they've acquired. The other thing is ask a crafter to make it first and then you'll give them all the stuff that it costed to make. If they refuse then walk away, it's not worth it.

Best of luck in the future hun.
