Entirely true, but we don't know when the updated art will be released. In that case, if you were bored & felt like doing a little screenshot work, then that will help current players to know if upgrading will just make something that looks the same. Same goes with stats, of course.
Looking for a screenshot of a token from Lord Vanaduke (Almirian Seal) for use in creating an icon image for it.
Out of curiosity, I noticed that a picture I had put up before was previously deleted. (Grey Feather Mantle) Are you waiting for the art to be updated if they look like other equipment? If so, I'll make sure not to upload ones that I know look like something else.
P.S. I would love to help on the wiki any way I can. Nothing too complex though because my little Kitty mind is still just that--little. Just let me know. You know where to find me. ;)
I'm currently the only one that can delete things and I don't delete them unless someone's uploaded a new version or it's something inappropriate. As far as I can tell from the logs, you've never uploaded a grey feather mantle. There was a grey feather mantle that was uploaded, but it was a helmet instead of an armor.
Really? :o Ooooh ok. When I did try to upload it I got a message saying it was previously uploaded. I guess I just assumed I did it? The pic was on my computer. LOL I screwed that up somewhere in my mind. :)
I've added a few to the images needed list due to the change in the gear pages with the tables switching to use stats images.
A release date has been announced: April 4th.
What does the to-do list for wiki edits look like? In particular, what information needs to be compiled before we lose everything we have?
We need a page about arsenals/inventory. We might also need to tag the Gate Construction page as inaccurate ever since it was rebalanced.
And of course, try to blank out Equinox's Needed Images page. >.o
I also need a screenshot of a Waste Module. I know the color palette can be obtain from Soul Dust, but I can't remember the color coordination. All I know is that there is a dark green background.
Let me work on a list. I'll add it to this thread this week. Some of the fixing up will just need to be done by me because of the admin access to protected pages, but there is plenty for volunteer editors to do!
I'm hesitant to suggest this, because we don't know if trinkets will even be updated before the upcoming release. However, the trinket section is very sparse: most of the information there is outdated, and very few trinkets have their own pages. It's worth asking around to see if we are missing any trinkets and/or their descriptions, so that we can at very least create some basic stub pages.
Okay, I've started a list on the wiki. Go peek at it here: http://wiki.spiralknights.com/User:Equinox/to_do
I've replaced the template for the Trinkets. Trinket stats will be uploaded (as soon as I finish a couple of paragraphs for one of my reports ^^; ) later today.
I've uploaded a few trinket stats, but most trinkets don't have a stat bar but a booster.
Do you want to upload a collection of stats modifier images and just use them in place of where stat bars would normally go?
I think uploading the booster in the case of trinkets would be fine. That'll stop the table from looking weird visually with blank spots. We can fill in the abilities section (bonus if it's a bonus, otherwise something like Normal Defense, etc.) for the sake of sorting while still showing the images for stats of the ones that actually have a bar.
Will anyone be working on the individual trinket pages? Because if not, I'll be making them when I get back home (I have this urge to do something time-consuming or tedious on the Wiki!).
Feel free to individual trinket pages, Saphy. I were still missing stats images for many of those.
Also in the to do list, possibly fun: we need some images of status conditions! The includes not only how it looks visually, but also how it looks if it appears with a countdown timer above your health bar. Some of them could possibly use additional information, even including a list of weapons that do things for that status (and even what gear provides resistance to it). This link should get you to all the status pages if somebody is interested: http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Curse
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Exploration I've moved the content of the "hazard" page there and added a skeleton of things that should be covered. I may have missed some topics though. It needs descriptive text and appropriate screenshots added if anyone has the inclination.
I just moved the Mk III Alchemers to deletion candidates since they no longer exist in the game. I've also edited most pages that referenced them.
Is there a template / manner for updating items' stats as they level up? I would make no promises to check every time, but some information is better than none....
Just to make sure you know what I'm talking about, an example is that somewhere around level 5, the Vitasuit Plus increases its health bonus from +3 to +4 - things along these lines.
I'm posting in THIS thread because it seems like a MAJOR to-do...
Items that increase in bonus actually seem to have a standard way of doing it, like +1 for health bonuses at level 5. We just need to write up something appropriate to stick on the relevant pages.
Would a separate template be right for this? i.e. {{armorbonus|Vitasuit Plus}} could be "Like most armor that comes with a health bonus, the {{{1}}} increases its health bonus at Level 5." ?
Let me start a separate thread about this. I think we need to confirm the pattern first.
This looks like the right thread to post about this:
(For a "TLDR", see the last couple paragraph this post.)
About 2 days ago I finally finished alchemizing my 5* set, as I hurried along to do so before I needed to study for exams (which is what I'm doing now). I will be finished with these horrible burdens on April 18 - not quite 2 weeks from now. As I have no true objectives left in Spiral Knights, as far as content goes, I am wanting to do some major wiki work once I am active again. (I'm wondering if there is anything in particular I should work on, rather than what I am about to mention.)
I was planning on incorporating my gameplay with the wiki itself, e.g. recording the stats, materials, and other statistics, of every recipe I come across. Perhaps I might record all material and equipment drops I get from monsters and boxes, while simultaneously recording all types of floors I enter and the types of monsters within. This would be useful for matching up drops with monsters, and then the monsters with gates, as an example. The wiki has the setup for this, but the data contained is mostly outdated. (With the release and whatnot, nobody can be blamed for this.)
My plan was to simply organize the data inside of the simplest of all things: a text file (.txt). I would have a simple format depending on what exactly I was recording: monsters <-> gates, monsters <-> materials, etc. The benefit of this is that everything would be absolute raw data, meaning it could be easily shared in bulk and on the forums, without having to deal with any formatting and whatnot. (Note that this data collection is not for recipes and equipment statistics, as these are things we can confirm directly.) In other words, even the most novice of users users can take part and make a contribution, as there is absolutely no wiki experience required. In fact, if you are reading this right now, you can do it. I will be creating my own little library separate from the wiki, but correspondingly updating the wiki with it. This is how I work, and if anyone else wishes to do the same thing, please feel free to do so.
This is how simple it is:
To separate the collection into two groups as it would be displayed on the wiki, say Monsters -> Locations versus Locations -> Monsters, we would just need to extract the data from the same place, just with a different perspective.
The wiki also lists "Attacks" and "Description", however it is not necessary to collect mounds of raw data on these (that would like having everyone state the description for a material). Data collection is just more the more non-direct things, such as which monsters drop which materials, and which floors contain which monsters, etc. As for the more direct things, such as recipes, equipment stats, etc, data collection is not necessary, but rather simple documentation, and perhaps some confirmation, whenever something is altered.
I realize that the drops, locations, and whatnot, may change with time. Yes, that would stink, but, given enough data, we would most likely be able to decide whether or not a drop was altered, for example.
If you ask me: I find this sort of thing to be fun. Even if all of my work somehow goes to waste, I would have no regrets. Although I do believe that the more direct and definite things, such as recipes and equipment stats, have a higher priority than this sort of data collection, they can all be worked on simultaneously.
Overall:
My main reason for making this post is that I have not seen a global effort to update the wiki. Most users simply complain that it is not up-to-date, yet they do absolutely nothing about it. If you do not know how to make changes to the wiki, or do not wish to do so directly, then consider doing this: organize relevant data in a text file, and submit it to a user who can incorporate it into the wiki. You only need to know how to type to do this, and it's not even that much work. You could even just write it on paper if you don't want to tab out or have other programs active. If you collect a substantial amount of data, feel free to put it on your wiki user/talk page, and then mention it to a wiki worker, so that we don't have loads of long posts on the forums. (To edit your wiki user/talk page, log in to the wiki, click your name, which is located at the beginning of the navigation at the top-right, and then click the "edit" tab to edit the content.)
If you would like to have a more up-to-date, accurate wiki, please consider making an effort yourself (perhaps by the method I mentioned in the above paragraph). After all, the wiki is a public effort, and if only a small portion of the public is making an effort, you cannot expect it to be up-to-date and accurate. Thank you.
I want to help out with the Wiki a bit, and I noticed the horned owlite shield was a bit out dated, there were no status resists included in the current image. that being said I tried to upload an image I took, but it came out stretched and doesn't show it in full for some reason. I'm sure I did something wrong. I'd love to be informed on how it works so I can help in the future.
Thanks
To Acea:
Specifically, what kinds of data would you like to gather? Listed you had:
Monsters <-> Gates
Monsters <-> Locations (if this is different)
Monsters <-> Materials (drops)
I was wondering if you wanted to do:
Minerals <-> Gate themes (a forum thread is going...)
Attack damage (for each weapon, each level, each hit, charged or not)
Item leveling (although this may fall under the "documentation" category) (a forum thread is going here too...)
Maps of levels (or at least descriptions)
Anything similar...
I would be willing to help collect data, and I would occasionally edit (especially once templates, etc. are set up), but I would like to just record data - then send it to someone, who would compile it. Thoughts?
Really, anything is helpful. There's certain levels of ambiguity going on in the game tight now. The least being recipes and equipment stats, for example. We can see what recipes take, and what the stats of equipment are. A less definite level is which gates appear on which floors, also as an example. We can't directly look at the "code" to find this out definitely, but we can collect data from our own experiences and compile a list. And the lowest level I can think of, is the mineral composition in gates: so far we truly don't know how this works.
Basically my point is that anyone can contribute. You could do something as simple as list the gates you enter, with the names of the monsters in that gate (Montsers <-> Gates/Locations [same thing]). Furthermore, you may wish to make a record of every time a monster drops a material, as in, which monster it is and which material it drops (Monsters <-> Materials/Drops).
Quite honestly, I'm not personally interested in [Minerals <-> Gate Themes] because the Devs are changing the operations so often, and clearly the system is not yet optimized. This also goes for Attack Damage, as there is still rebalancing going on (and there probably always will be).
If you ask me, the most definite things are the top priority to have compiled on the wiki: recipes, equipment stats (pictures for now), etc. These are, perhaps incidentally, the things players are more concerned with overall. The most common questions I see in game are "what is a good piece of equipment and where can I find its recipe?", "where do I find these materials?", and "what monsters drop these materials?".
I you've looked up a recipe and know what you need to make what you want, you just need to know where to get the materials if trading other players doesn't help: either monsters, or the less-common vendor(s). This is where mapping monsters with materials comes in handy. Now, you know which monsters to hunt for the materials you need, but where are these monsters? This is where mapping monsters with gates comes in handy.
If a user was to start anywhere, I would suggest recording the ingredients for recipes you encounter, as well as taking a screenshot of the equipment. This way, all information on the equipments stats, as well as what is needed to alchemize it, are documented. This is by far the most popular type of information on the wiki. The second thing to do, perhaps simultaneously, would be to record every floor you enter, the name of it, what monsters appear, as well as what materials had dropped from what monsters. This, too, is valuable and very useful information for everyone.
Once you have recorded data in pure text format, for example, simply paste it into your wiki user page, or even email to someone who can compile it. (I'm willing to collect and compile data, though I will not be generally active for the next week and a half, so it would be best not to consider me until then.)
(Sorry for the long and unrefined post, I'm just in a hurry to get back to studying.)
I've updated the needed images list: http://wiki.spiralknights.com/User:Equinox/needed_images
Edit: Also, I've done a slight revamped version of the alchemy paths. Any fans of mindless mass editing can follow my example here: http://wiki.spiralknights.com/index.php?title=Firo_Driver&curid=3804&dif... for the rest of the equipment pages. This will reduce accidental incorrect image names and stuff.
I can crack into that with the swords.
EDIT: I got Swords, Handguns, Bombs and Shields done (Except for Stone Tortoise... *shakes tiny fist at Saphy*). I think Saphy's got everything else.
I made a couple templates and added anchors to the List of sets page. {{SetLink|Chaos}}, for example, creates a link with text "Chaos Set" that links directly to the Chaos Set on the List. Less syntax overall, but it does need to be put into the item pages. Maybe just pop it in as you go.
There are still a few equipment pages that need updating to switch to the revised alchemy path (no s) template. If you're interested in working on it, you can find them via this link: http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Alchemy_paths
Cleaned up those last few pages except for Saphy's wonderful alternate use of the template.
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Auction_House Saphy gave it a start, but the Auction House page could use some further detailed information and screenshots if you're an auctiony kind of knight that has tried out the AH.
Edit: Just created this with one sentence and one image, could use help: http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Advanced_Training_Hall
Added the overview, but it could probably use some detail. Also, this phrase may need rephrasing: "The Advanced Training Hall is an excellent location to experiment with their equipment, although the strength of the higher-tiered gear in the hall will not be reflected in higher-tiered depths. "
And yes to more screenshots of the Auction House and more explanations!
Just added the picture for the Chaos Set. Too bad that problem will still make it a red link. :<
The icon for the Static Flash has changed in-game. It is now a bright white glowing white/blue. Where do these big PNG icons some from? I can upload the new one if I knew where to look.
I've /bugged this already, but the description on the bomb says "Moderate Freeze" when it is clearly a shocking bomb.
The big .png icons are stored on your computer. If you're using Windows, copy-and-paste this address into the address bar:
C:\Users\yournamegoeshere\AppData\LocalLow\spiral\rsrc\ui\icon\inventory\
Gosh-dangit I just uploaded that image too!
I did a bad thing and uploaded the new Static Flash icon twice and reverting it once, even though Equinox said not to.
I now need someone else to fix it for me. I'm sorry. :$
The point is that currently NOBODY can fix it. It will just have to wait until the issue on the wiki is fixed. The notice is mostly to let people know not to waste their time hoping that hitting revert or uploading more than once will fix it because it doesn't.
I'm starting to go through and standardize the "Sources" (was Vendors) sections of equipment pages. If you want to help out, you can take a look at the examples I've done so far 0-2 star armor items. Just give a yell if you have questions about one that seems weird. I haven't done any of the token trader ones, but they would look like this:
{{PAGENAME}} can be purchased from [[Brinks]] in [[Haven]] and Clockworks [[subtown]]s for XX Blah Typename tokens.
Copy paste text for editing & some notes available on http://wiki.spiralknights.com/User:Equinox/sandbox#Sources
I've added placeholders for Tier versions of Beasts in the Visual Encyclopedia/creature page. Someone said that they couldn't see a difference between Tier 1 and Tier 3 Lumbers, so eventually I'd like to upload all of the tier-specific monsters onto the encyclopedia, and then have the monster pages link to them.
That, and the memory of trying to convince someone that the Tier 3 Mecha Knight was NOT a new fancy knight specific to Tier 3 x.x
Anyway, if you guys have screenshots of Tier-specific monsters, crop them to 128x128 pixels and upload them to the Wiki! Just make sure they're recent - the Scuttlebots recently got a facelift and now they stare creepily at you with their glowing eye.
Actually you can just crop them square. Larger than 128x128 is fine. Just don't make them smaller than 128x128.
Id like to know how to make my guild page the same as one called cobalt, but i don't understand because this is my first time editing a wiki.
Since more folks are making guild & user pages, it would be a nice project for someone to do tutorials on how to do both of those. This would go from how to start editing the article at the correctly formatted article name to the types of templates that should or can be used (naturally the user page options for this would range a lot more). The tutorials should have screenshots to help illustrate things, as well as links to example pages that may help people get ideas of what a nicely done guild or user page could look like.
The suggested location for each of these:
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Help:Creating_a_guild page
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Help:Creating_a_userpage
I added the new trinkets to the list at http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Trinket However, I didn't have time to fill in the abilities, so that's a task that's up for grabs.
The existing pages for those trinkets need recipes and the ones that are red links could use new pages for them. Please see my post about the new recipe template as you will need to use it for the new ones since the recipes are not purchased.
I've updated the wanted images list (these are all taken from Special pages > Wanted files):
For those of you that are would like to help us translate from English to Spanish, our Spanish wiki has a number of pages that need work, you will find them at http://wiki.spiralknights.com/es/Especial:PáginasRequeridas
Even if I am a Spanish wiki editor, I work all the time in English wiki insteads of the Spanish one for a simple reason: The Spanish wiki needs a LOT of work to improve, while the English wiki (although there are many things to do ) there is a lot more people working and constantly updated articles. You know...It's a lot more easy to work with more people than work alone...
Anyway, I work a lot in Spanish forums and try to answer all the questions I can (seeing that administrators do not really have much time to review all the messages that people throw in there).
PD: This post is really just to justify the lack of enthusiasm that most editors like me feel about the need to update the Spanish wiki.
But since the art of armors, helmets, and other gear will be updated soon, wouldn't it be better to wait until the updated art has been released? This is the primary reason why I'm not uploading missing equipped items into the Wiki - the art will get updated eventually, so uploading the images only to replace them later means more work for everyone.
