Shards -> Mineral conversion needed !
Red Shard - Red Mineral
Light Shard - Yellow Mineral
Green Shard - Green Mineral
Blue Shard - Blue Mineral
Dark Shard - Purple Mineral

It will help solve the excess shard materials we are accumulating, and allow those who play more to have an ever-growing influence on the themes of gate.

As for the cost / conversion rate, that will ultimately be up to Three Rings, but I will suggest the following:

1 shard = 10 minerals, cost of conversion = 5 crowns (per shard)

That will, in effect, make each shard worth 35 crowns if you can find an x4 price. 25 crowns a shard if x3. So it won't always be worth doing, but it will at least be an option for clearing out excessive amounts of shards or even provide a money sink for the super-rich to influence themes (while bringing the price of shards back up for the poor)

P.S. To be clear, I am NOT suggesting minerals to shards, that would be stupid and make crafting too cheap.

It'd be a good sink for the endless heaps of redundant Shards that tend to build up; of course, you can offload a lot of them at the Auction House, but a lot of Shards are worth essentially nothing, and it's frustrating to see them pile up in the inventory with the only option being to shunt them off on a vendor for a single Crown apiece.

Ever read the description on

Ever read the description on a shard? You would need to go 10:1 with shards as the 10, not the minerals. Shards are teeny tiny minerals.

I don't see a problem with this at all. I'm also thinking it should be possible to craft higher-level materials using low-level materials. Just because the "materials" in themselves are also "manufactured" in a sense when you look at them.

Maybe it could be this. Snice

Maybe it could be this.
Snice shards are actually tiny parts of the mineral itself, 10 of shards would equal 1 mineral?

Untenable. It devalues high-level materials and reduces the incentive to explore deeper Tiers, not to mention that a sufficiently determined player could probably skip Tier 2 altogether unless manufacturing was so tightly controlled as to be essentially neutered anyway.

@Matuse You're picking at

@Matuse

You're picking at details, OOO can always change the descriptions with no tangible impact on the game. I'm trying to address a very real problem of us having way too many shards.

Maybe an NPC learns a way to GROW minerals from shards, rather than 'break them down'. You can always spin the story however is needed.

How to get rid of your extra shards

How to get rid of your extra shards: A primer

Step 1: Type /join 2
Step 2: Find someone who is buying shards (Blue shards have been going for ~60-100cr each for a couple weeks now, others are less valuable)
Step 3: Profit

Minerals are nearly worthless. People are paying good crowns for shards right now--take advantage.

It's people like you who ruin the economy for the rest of us.

Yes, it is profitable to sell popular shards but where does the money go after that? there's a little thing called inflation if one doesn't take money out of the economy too.

With this, both the problem of too much mat & crowns could be potentially be resolved while also not compromising OOO or its players. OOO doesn't lose money and the long term players get a bigger say in what gate goes where (since most newbies will simply auto-sell disrupting their hard work to balance the gates); in the end better gates also means better crowns. think of a bigger picture than yourself. These matters affect a lot of people.

I like this idea. GO FOR IT, I say.

Yea, the price on blue and green shards are insane right now. If you have so many laying around, sell them. You can never have enough crowns.

Well, lets see...

  • Some of it gets spent on buying other, more expensive materials.
  • Some of it is used to buy CE (which I use almost immediately both for extra clockworks runs and for upgrading my gear)
  • Some of it is used to buy recipes (and when I buy them from Basil 100% of those cr go straight out of the economy)

The money gets put to good use upgrading my gear, and somewhere between 10 and 30% overall ends up getting taken out of the economy by the generous cuts taken by the AH and CE exchange. I fail to see how this "ruins" the economy.

EDIT: Deleted blatantly inflammatory remark so the mods won't have to.
