I currently have this setup:
Horned owlite shield (UV Low elemental defence)
Elemental hood
Elemental Cloak
Tempered calibur
Shadowtech alchemer
All of the above are 3* except for the gun.
What could I do to improve this setup so I don't get murdered at jelly king are?
The best weapons you can have for KJ are Faust/Gran Faust and Graviton Vortex. I have GF and GV and I've killed KJ 35 times or so in the last 3 or 4 days. Add me. IGN bigfootm

Yeah, you can have much better equipment than mine. Just sayin' that was what I used first to kill him ( my gear isn't great anyways.)
I use an Faust and a Blackhawk we doin a JK run they critical each time i hit them because they are weak against shadow. The Fausts curse makes things much better when fighting them as well cause those damn fairies always healing them lol

I am surprised that no one has mentioned the Dread Venom Striker, or even just the Venom Striker. I solo JK a lot and on average I die once through the battle.
For JK I use :
Dread Venom Striker.
Skolver Cap,
Virulisk Suit
Grey Owlite Shield
I always toss out a curse vial, then poison, then I start whacking away with the striker.
I am going to try my Faust next time though to see how well it works just from everyone mentioning it.

Here thar be opinions. I've used the Faust and I am not a fan. One of my favorite features of the Divine Avenger is the crowd-controlling charge attack. Coupled with the ability to curse me I don't think I like it so much.
I've fought the Royal Jelly (not Jelly King, yes I mad) several times with several different sets of gear and have found that if you are going to be doing a lot of Royal Jelly runs then investing in the Virulisk line might be worth it. My best results, indisputably, have been with armor in the Chroma line. I was running with Volcanic Salamander, but since the slime update traded it in for Deadly Virulisk. The Virulisk line not only offers me Piercing defense in good amount, but it also gives me a Very High Damage Bonus Vs. Slimes. That combined with my Acheron makes me a slime murdering machine.
My current setup when I face the Royal Jelly:
Deadly Virulisk Mask (Stun Resist Low UV)
Deadly Virulisk Suit (Stun Resist Low UV)
Aegis
Acheron
Cold Iron Vanquisher
Ash of Agni (Charge Time Reduction High UV)
Storm Driver (Charge Time Reduction Medium UV)
When it comes to the actual fight, the Storm Driver is very good for clearing up his mobs and keeping them together. It also lowers his defense and makes him spasm to reduce attacks. Once I have him stunned I will just start beating on him with my Acheron until he dies, which is typically very quickly.
Ash of Agni does wonders in this fight for keeping adds clear.
It should be noted that the royal jelly itself has neither resistances nor vulnerabilities. The jello shots are the same. I think of them as "fiend-jellies". You may occasionally see "critical" animations when attacking them, but the actual number change doesn't reflect that (as opposed to menders, which tend to display incorrect "critical" animations but are actually taking heavy damage). I think the mender thing has been fixed recently, or it may be a bug unique to certain tiers or usage of split-damage weapons which I haven't been playing with for weeks.

Weapons:
Ash of Agni - clears mobs, burns boss
Faust line - curses boss
Venom Striker - poisons boss
Venom Veiler - inferior source of poison, you'll sacrifice damage to keep this going.
Voltech line - shock boss and adds, bounces are optimized here
Firotech line - same as volt, but with fire. UV vs. slime firotechs are among the best weapons for clearing the palace
Armors:
Normal/Pierce armors are best. 'Lisk armors deserve special mention for their bonus damage to jellies.
Plate shields function well here.
Personalized recommendations:
For you heal_ppl, I recommend changing your cloak. If you go the divine armor route, only the helm will grant bonus damage vs fiends, so it's the piece to keep between the two. You can change your cloak out to something that grants better normal resist, and the secondary value of the cloak will determine your strongest resist. You'll lose fire/shock resist by doing this, as well as curse resist that could help you wield Faust, but you also won't take as much stun when it comes time to fight Trojans in Firestorm Citadel. If you want your resists perfectly balanced, go with jelly armor. Jelly armor is easy to acquire if you start yourself off with jelly gems, since they can buy you the 3* brute jelly mail. If you don't get pierce resist on your armor, get a royal jelly band for 100 primal sparks. Primal sparks come along pretty easily, and the pierce resist from the royal jelly band is no small value.
I'd have to disagree with the Virulisk line. If anything, Skolver is the way to go since it:
1) Still has piercing defense
2) You get the same damage bonus with all your swords instead of just against Jellies
3) Random times when freeze defense is relevant?
Basically all the benefits of Virulisk, aside from poison defense. Been loving the Skolver line ever since it became relevant after piercing was added to Jellies and Wolvers. Also a nice break from the dusty Vog Cub.
After splurging a very large amount of money and energy, I now have Miracle cloak and hood instead of Elemental. Will this help me at all?

The chroma series might help you out, as it has jelly damage UV.
If you level it up to a divine yes. That is great for vanaduke. As for KJ, its good.
I finally went down with the gear I had most recently mentioned, and with a team of awsome people (including a guy with nightblade, I bought one afterwards) We took down the KJ with only having to have one energy-related revive. :)

I was having some difficulty until I upgraded to the 4 star Calibur (Ascended I believe) and also got my Ash Tail Coat.
