I think that when the items drop it isn't fair who gets them ... and it is pretty crappy ... Example after we complete a whole tier and go to haven with 4 person party(end tier screen) it seems i always see an imbalance in items as in one person picks up all the 5 star items etc 4 star and the other person has only all 3 star .. or even worse! ... my suggestion would be to some how make your system kind of go a round robin based on star materials ... as in
Say X player and Y player are teamed up.

1star item drops ... X player gets it ... then a 5 star item drop .... Y player get it ..... 1star item drop again ... Y player gets it ... 4star item drops X player gets it .... and whenever a different star item comes up it alternates based on who got the other tier star item first and as for shards it just goes around the group ... example : red shard drop Y player gets it ... blue shard drops X player gets it ... just keep alternating ... I feel this would be more equal and balanced in groups and make people want to play coop more often then not, because i feel at this point it isn't fair! anyone with me? opinions please

Apparently it used to be a round robin system. But it was found that people actually manipulated it to get the best items. How I will never know.

If there is a pattern in the group drop system, I wouldn't be surprised. I mean, you can even manipulate the RNG from mostly any game, you just need to know how it works.
If you find the pattern, you can easily manipulate it.

Round robin would be easy.

If the distribution system was based on round-robin, you could simply make sure to pick up the less sought-after items when you know it is not your turn to take the loot. It would be difficult, trying to judge when other players pick up loot, but easy enough to work out if you're careful. If I ever need mats, I always play solo, however, so the mats I get when in group are an added bonus, and I'm happy to pay the extra crowns [those I'm not earning] for the added fun of playing with your guildies.

Round robin style would

Round robin style would simply not work. It would be super easy to manipulate this in smaller parties and would bring a lot of unneeded chaos to dungeon runs, as some players become more focused on item drops/pickups than actual fighting. A pseudorandom generator would probably seem more "fair," but as LeonAlabard said, even that can be manipulated to a certain extent.

The issue here is that the

The issue here is that the system TRIES to be fair in drop distribution but it only takes into consideration HOW MANY materials each person has found during the course of the entire dungeon run, with absolutely no regard to what tier of materials they have found or how long they have been with the group.

What this means is that if you play through a bunch of lower levels, picking up lots of useless low-level materials along the way, and then someone joins you AFTER you get to the levels with higher tier materials, the game looks at your big collection of (useless) mats and looks at the newcomer not having found any so far and says "Oh no, this is totally unfair, I must distribute most of the materials from this point on to this new guy until he has found exactly as many materials in total as you!"

If you want to get decent mats, LOCK YOUR PARTY after the first floor or so and never let anyone join. This is horrible and counter-productive to good group play, but until they change it so that the loot distribution happens on the basis of EACH INDIVIDUAL FLOOR and not the entire run, you have to do this if you want to find ANY good materials.... (or play solo)

Of course, they could also just make materials shared with everyone like crowns and minerals and tokens, and just lower the overall drop rate down to a third of the current rate to compensate.
