Would love it if ingame voip had a push-to-talk setting, instead of triggering off mic input volume... Some player's mics are so sensitive they trigger just off the player typing (ie playing the game), or if they have external speakers, you have to listen to the game from voip as well. Sure you can always mute the player, but that moots the point of voip then (if we have to mute everyone who has a sensitive mic)

At this point, I myself have just become accustomed to muting in-game voip completely. Because nothing is more annoying to listen to than the game THROUGH voip from someone else's speakers.... Not to mention the downside of triggering off mic input... Have to mute microphone manually if you do not want people to hear you having a conversation on the phone or if you have music playing on external speakers, etc...

If nothing else, a way to configure this microphone sensitivity.

Good Idea.

But do you really need it?

If your mic doesn't have

If your mic doesn't have noise cancellation, then it fails.

Push to talk would be unnecessary but nice for those who want it.

Vent servers. Vent. VENT! You

Vent servers. Vent. VENT! You push ALT to talk. And it doesn't disrupt game play.

I have a very nice headset

I have a very nice headset but I'd still prefer to use PTT for my own privacy, so people won't hear me talking to my family or whatever. +1 vote for this.

Is it my imagination....

or has the situation improved in the last few days? Maybe I've just been lucky on my last few runs. I fully agree with the OP though.

If you've got something useful to say then holding down a single key isn't that hard (maybe you could even set it to a mouse button, I know people have done that in other games). On that point though, have you ever heard anyone say anything useful? Most people with something to say will type it, which isn't great when things get hectic.

Yeah

I really need a push to talk button. The auto-talk is really dragging me down, cause I can't tell if it's on or off.

Bump.

I wanted voice chat for Spiral Knights before there was any hint of Spiral Knights coming to Steam at all. It's been months since the game's Steam release and yet I have almost never used the feature at all. Voice-detect is just such a killer for me and (I'd imagine) many other potential mic-users as well. This is just the sort of game I would really enjoy being able to chat to friends with as I play.
